Aha. I see. there's Two automotive Mellings.
TROY, Michigan — Saleen, maker of countless Mustang-based hot rods and the S7 racecar, will unveil a midengine sports car concept at the 2008 New York Auto Show in March.
Unlike the roughly $700,000 S7, which was a purpose-built racecar that was occasionally licensed for the street, the S5S Raptor is a vision for the "premium performance market with segment-leading horsepower." In other words, this will be a sports car designed primarily for the street instead of the track. Saleen says power will come from a supercharged 5.0-liter engine that runs on E85 ethanol. We expect that the Raptor's motor will be based on the supercharged 5.0-liter Ford-based V8 that already powers the company's S302E Mustang-based car. In the S302E, the engine is rated at 620 horsepower. That should give it the necessary oomph to make it to the 200 mph top speed Saleen is estimating.
The body, which looks in the sketch provided here like a very muscular Lotus Exige, would be fitted to an aluminum space frame. Chief Technical Officer Chris Theodore has been earlier quoted as saying the company could be interested in producing a car in the $150,000 range, so we would expect that the Raptor, if it makes it to production, will be somewhere in that range. Incidentally, Theodore has some experience with $150,000 Ford-powered, midengine sports cars. He was a driving force behind the creation of the Ford GT while he was a vice president with the Dearborn, Michigan carmaker.
Will Saleen build it? The company claims that it will be gauging reaction to the concept from its dealers, the media and attendees at the New York auto show. Theodore says that the Raptor could make it to market within two to three years from the time it gets the green light.
What this means to you: The S7 never made much sense to us because we don't own a Le Mans race team, but an all-American Ferrari fighter? That's intriguing
I can see so many cars in that front end, Gallardo, R8, NSX, Evo X and GTR to name a few.
Just go away.If you can get an S7 up to 250mph, than i will shut up about the ultimate aero.
Can the Aero produce enough downforce to drive upside down?If you can get an S7 up to 250mph, than i will shut up about the ultimate aero.
I hope you're referring to both the S7 and the SSC with that statement.ok, good enough. It is way overpriced, dangerous, and just completely useless because when are you actually going to get to go 250mph anyway.
That's a win-win for Saleen, either way.On that note:
Ford GT > Saleen S7
But that didn't last very long...

The Aero goes around a slalom faster than an Enzo....And well, the Top Gear Board speaks for itself. The CCX is number 2 on it, right behind the Ascari.Erm, I love the Ford GT as much as the next Ford junkie but the S7 is the holy freaking grail. And the twin turbo model is just 100% sex on wheels.
And the last thing I'll say about the "Ultimate" Aero is I'd rather drive my old run down Camaro with a weak dog 305ci V8 with a whopping 175bhp and 255lb.ft of torque. The Aero is just trash. Speed in a straight line doesn't make a car cool. The Veyron and S7 can take corners fast--the Aero (and admittedly the CCX) cannot.

How on earth did you come to this conclusion? Neither car have been tested on the same track, and it's pretty much a good conclusion the Enzo would be faster.1. The Enzo sucks. The S7 could murder it in every possible way around a track.
The CCX is 1 second behind the Enzo at Bedford Autodrome West Circuit. It is not just fast in a straight line.2. The CCX is blindingly fast in a straight line--and the Top Gear test track favors high powered performers due to a high speed straight bias track layout.
