Ok, had a longer stint of this game now. Went into the main career mode bit. 2 races were open at the start, a 147 race on an italien countryside setting and a 156 race on Valencia race circuit short course, what i can say from both races is the AI is fantastic. They dont give up positions easily and they fight you all the way, even pushing so hard they make mistakes. Example, on the 147 race, there was a guy racing round the outside of me but he was pushing over the limit, hit the grass spun andn i tried to avoid him but his back end swung back onto the road and took me out! but after that the other AI cars actually avoided our wreckages.

The damage inflicted on car and driver is good, the car can be totalled while racing and the driver can deteriorate but he can replenish, as you get put under pressure your (at the beginning at least) low level of vision, intimidation etc make your driver status go down a lot, mainly when under pressure fom opponents, if you let them intimidate you too much it wiilll eventually get to zero, when this happens the screen goes blurry/dizzy and you hear heavy breathing and a heart beat until you get the oppurtunity arises to get some of your points back by not being under pressure etc.

Tiger vision is a neat little addition, i used it on the 147 race once, i came off a turn and smashed into the back of an AI driver and ended up off the track so i hit the tiger vision button and watched that little incident rewind itself to 1 second before so a quick reaction avoided a crash.

This is a great game but the only snag is bad wheel support, its non existent so its off to the DS2 unless you want frustratingly bad steering and no FFB, but its no biggy, using a DS2 isnt too bad and its pretty easy to get used to.

I found this game in a discount bin a Wal-Mart. (Alfa Romeo: Racing Italiano in this market).

I got two other games with it for $15, but this was probably worth the $15 itself.

It's sort of a combination driving and RPG game.

I'm very not good at it. I've been doing the "get lots of rewards without advancing very much" routine. But last night I finally made a tiny bit of real progress. You win stuff like "helmet of magic traction" and things like that. Using some of those helped me do better and unlock a few more races.

The AI seem vicious sometimes. Their version of Valencia is surrounded by time-consuming sand-traps, and if you pussy-foot the AI are likely to punt you off into them. And I never remember the Tiger-Effect soon enough.

Car damage is interesting. You can do cheating-type stuff, like grass-mowing and hitting walls, but you get a penalty for it, so you have to limit the amount you do. You also get big XP point rewards for clean laps. So accidentally or opportunistically cutting a corner too much doesn't instantly zing you, but you can't make a habit of it.

Don't you mean this game?

Not the one you linked too? Seeming this thread is about Squadra Corse Alfa Romeo not...Alfa Romeo Italiano

I think, and this is confirmed from a more detailed thread at another board (including screenshots) that the two games are just different packaging. The first post definitely matches the gameplay of Alfa Romeo: Racing Italiano.

Read the descriptions for both games.
S.C.A.R., which stands for Squadra Corse Alfa Romeo, is a racing simulation that combines realistic car physics with classic role-playing game elements.

Saw Alfa Romeo: Racing Italiano for $3.33 at Wal-Mart on the weekend.
