Im finding more often than not, one of the major contributing factors to the standard cars looking sub-par is the blurry, awkward text thats on most of the license plates. If these looked sharper I think it would make the overall car look much more... current gen.

Indeed. The standard cars that look particularly poor are often the result of poor texturing. The standard cars with higher resolution textures but same poly count (which is very low compared with premium) look very decent, certainly not outdated for this console gen.
 
Some people tends to criticize the standard cars rather than praise. They take INTENTIONALLY horrible shots just to say: "Hey, look! It´s a standard!" Fffk that pal! Go disturb another pub! ;P

Standard Mitsubishi GTO - actually looks pretty good when you see it in the game, could almost pass for premium...... almost. Have had a GTO (or 3000GT) in every GT game I have played - good to have one back again.

Transferred it from PSP, for those wondering.

Could get some more if you want. MOTUL Civic, '10 XFR (My big disapointment), Evo, Elise, old Fiat 500. Also have some Alfas and the Lancia Rally cars, and many others from PSP.

Pics from them, but I'd really love the old beetle to be premium I had one as my first car and really I love those tiny cars they are so fun to drive!
