Nah. He pretty much says what we expect him to say.

Not that it's a huge surprise, but I bet they were hoping to save that for the second movie.

Actually,go back to 20:31 and then to 25:16, he says "curses" again slightly different and more clearly; so basically, he didn't say what i thought at first he said imo
 
not a lott to add to you guys, i did find it a good movie to get star wars on rails again for the next couple of years,...

only 2 things i am a bit dissapointed about;

1 only 1 new spaceship,... kylo' rens,.. ( awesome ) shuttle
2 i did not see a lot of (new) aliens

Can't say that I'm surprised because I'm not.

What does surprise me is that it hasn't already grossed over 1B. :lol:
 
....I've been avoiding this thread like bubonic plague since the film's release.


Anyway, I saw it today, finally - almost a week later than I wanted to. And, as I thought, ended up watching it "solo". Me sad.

As for the movie... well, some people might throw me down the garbage chute, but honestly speaking I enjoyed Ant-man more than this movie.

After walking out of the cinema I thought that as a film, it didn't quite click but as an Event, it was good enough.

At the end of the day, I wouldn't recommend this film over the original trilogy.
 
So the BB-8 stands for Ball Bot 8 eh? What about R2D2 and C3PO XD

Anyway, heartwarming film seeing the original cast getting old. Supposed to be if the Star Wars franchise handed by much younger generation. And i think its executes really well. Gonna watch second time if somebody wants to.

Altough i got a huge complaints about the specific things:
The confrontation between Han and Phasma feels very straightforward and underdeveloped. And why after 30 years theres still R2D2 roaming arround the base with different colours. I thought theyre mostly obseloete by then.

I saw the green one also if my mind is correct. But its really passable complaint though. Just a slight detail considering how enthusiastic Star Wars fans can be when it comes to theory.

Remember, this was still a long time ago. Things were built stronger back then , so they lasted longer.
 
Correct me if I'm wrong but the very first time that the "general" meets Rey, they have an unusually long cuddle.

I think Rogue One's success will depend on it's trailers, but even then it won't do nearly the same amount of ticket sales. I'll see it for sure though.
 
As this was the first time I've seen a Star Wars movie in theaters, I have to say it didn't disappoint.

I absolutely loved Poe and Rey and Finn wasn't bad either. I loved the inclusion of props and references from the old movies too.

This was definitely my favorite Star Wars movie because it seemed so much more real than seeing the DVDs on my screen at home. I hope Episodes 8 and 9 are this good!

EDIT: I might do a more in-depth review later but I don't have too much spare time right now.

I didn't give it a whole ten thumbs up myself (my score is at 8.0... 8.5 if I'm feeling generous), but I would definitely recommend it as a good way to get into the franchise.

But as with all tentpole movies aimed at mixed audiences, you should leave your critical thinking faculties and expectations of deep and meaningful subtext checked in at the door. Star Wars has always been a loosely hung Space Western. Don't expect it to be anything more than that.

The original trilogy is fine, but honestly, the story itself doesn't have much depth, and only really kicks into gear dramatically come Empire. The first movie was kind of sketchy, loose and frivolous.

...Oh, absolutely. I agree with you there.
I gave it a 6/10 after talllying up the movie.

I am thankful that...
...it didn't imitate/retread the storybeats of A New Hope...
...however, I just can't overlook some scenes where "coincidences" continued to happen.

And the worst part of the movie was the...
...Kylo Ren, who was trained by both Luke and Snoke, got his ass handed to him by a scavenger with no prior experience handling a lightsabre...
...I think my eyes rolled all the way back on that one.

Also, for the sake of pacing and the running time I feel a lot of dialogues/scenes that offered context were edited out. I bet you half eaten chocolate bar that a so-called Extended Edition With Extra Footage is coming soon in near future...

April 15th is when the Blu-Ray/DVD comes out, so I'm guessing they will have the special edition with all that stuff on it around then.

There are several explanations floating around for this. That his training wasn't finished (even Snoke at the end of the movie says this), he was injured, he may have been emotionally compromised by killing his father. As far as Rey goes, she's pretty good with that staff she carries around, so some of those skills could carry over to the lightsaber. And if they give her a dual blade saber similar to Darth Maul's in the next movie, things are going to get really interesting.

So whether it be a combination of him not taking Rey seriously enough that he paid for it, his training not being complete (which we later find out to be true), or, and this compliments him not taking Rey seriously, he just wasn't prepared for someone as force sensitive as Rey to put up such a battle that he, again, paid for it because he got a little too cocky after liberally handing Finn his ass.

Ben is a much better Anakin than TCW Anakin, even down to the temper tantrums and overall immaturity. I have no reason at all to believe that Rey and most likely someone else will pay dearly once Ep. VIII comes around.

...but seeing things from a martial art perspective,

the level gap should be too wide to be bridged by sudden and rather convenient lapse in judgement, especially when earlier he was "pushed" back by Rey's another equally opportunistic and timely awakening...
Yes, I'm aware coming into contact with Luke's saber "may have triggered" something in her, but even with that scene, Kylo shouldn't have been in that much of a disadvantage. Incomplete training or not, it's still better than someone with no training.
Handling a staff and a saber should also be quite different, so her adopting to it that quickly is a stuff straight out of anime.
Yes, he got shot by Chewie too, and that might have been a bigger issue of all, but as witnessed by Finn fight, it shouldn't have affected him that badly either.

And that line spoken by Snoke? I interpret that as a "I'm gonna spank him for being a bloody idiot" type of line...

A fair point no doubt but I think it comes to not only him being emotionally compromised and as you mentioned (which I actually forgot!) being previously injured, he was so beset on retrieving the whereabouts of Luke and now his lightsaber that it probably amounts to nothing more than an incredible lapse in judgment - something he's plenty familiar with as we've seen. We know Ren is capable, perhaps more so than Vader (he definitely has a bit more of an evil streak to him) but all throughout the movie he hasn't been planted on either side of the force.

Should Rey have posed that much of a threat so early on? It's a little hard to say without knowing more because he was shaken up earlier by her Vader comment, shaken up even earlier than that by discovering there were latent abilities awakening within her while he was trying to force information out of her, and perhaps even more than he just impaled his father which clearly had an effect on him as you could see in facial expressions when he confronted both Rey and Finn.

I don't think it's as easy as "Well Ren was better in almost every conceivable way." because while that's almost certainly true he was torn in too many different directions to assert that.
 
I finally got to see this today, but...
...some nerf-herder spoiled Kylo's origin and his killing of Han for me.

I'd give it an 8.5. It felt a bit like it was retreading old ground from Ep. IV. :indiff:

I love the way Kylo's lightsabre seems to "crackle", it really adds to his imperfect vibe.
