I'd imagine there are a few Star Wars fans amongst us on GTP and I assume a few of you are waiting in anticipation for SWTOR after the most excellent KOTOR that now seems to have been released a long time ago, in a galaxy far far away.

Still no official release date yet but judging by the excellent quality of work coming from Bioware in the last few years, they can take their sweet time getting it right.

For those of you who have no idea what I'm rambling on about, here are two cinematic trailers for the game:

Offical site: http://www.swtor.com/

Been looking forward to this for a long time. Part of the reason I just bought a gaming rig. Really looking forward to getting stuck in.

I'm not really into MMO's but I'm willing to give it a go, from what I have seen of the gameplay vids, it looks pretty epic.

I really wish Star Trek's MMO had been as amazing as this has turned out, a Star Wars MMO doesn't really interest me all that much but its an amazing job by the devs.

Same. Not a massive RPG fan in general but the KOTOR games were a standout in my opinion. I just hope this will be better than Galaxies, that game sucked for some reason.

KOTOR was such a game!! and KOTOR 2 also, glad if they come with another game.

Shame that is isn't completely new game. It's basically KOTOR3 online...

I've been looking at Galaxies. Mental note to resist temptation.

E3 is here and with a new cinematic intro. Darth Malgus 👍👍👍👍

Just watched the first gameplay trailer. Honest opinion? Not impressed. It now has to win me over now.

I'm starting to share your view on this. After watching this vid, I'm not entirely convinced. They may well surprise me still, I will definitely give it a go when it finally gets released. The story and game play might still make up for it. After all graphics are not the be all and end all. I have to admit however that the fighting looks pretty clunky, especially since I'm currently about halfway through Force Unleashed 2 at present which has a really fluid fighting mechanic.

A guy i know that played wow in the same guild as me has the beta for this game and seems to think it's the best thing since sliced bread. However, will he still think that after playing it for numerous years as he has done with world of warcraft?

The cinematics they make all look fantastic but none of that is gameplay, i wouldn't mind giving it a go but i'm not entirely convinced by the combat videos. I saw some jedi fighting something by standing on the spot swinging his lightsabre through the enemy who was throwing off sparks but not falling to pieces or dying as expected?

The vid above my post, i remember watching that a year ago (and the vid was old then 2009?), so i'm not sure that is a good way to guage it.

that one seems better than the other one I watched, still not convinced but we just gotta hope the final product will prove to be better.

Seems it's now available for pre-order including a collectors edition which looks pretty cool.

I'm still not convinced that's it's going to be that great however I will still buy it and give it a try as I'm a hopeless Star Wars fan and it's not like I haven't ever played a bad Star Wars game or two or three. this is my current collection, I think it the collectors edition will make a nice addition to it.

That Star Wars Episode 1 game you got there Syntax Error, what do you think of it?

Because I have it (bought it when it came out) and I thought it was a really decent game but all the reviewers lambasted it. I still play it from time to time and its the only game which covers that film era properly.

Amazing collection you have there! Very envious!

It does follow the story quite well but I have to admit that after having played the Jedi series (Academy & Outcast), these are far superior as far as gameplay & mechanics goes. Doesn't follow any of the movies but heaps more fun.

Hehe thanks. Some of those games are truly terrible however. Battle for Naboo, easily one of the worst games I have ever played. Period.

No Star Wars Empire At War? I liked that RTS, including the ability to switch to cinematic cam while playing.

edit: just noticed it poking out at the top left :p

And to comment on the old republic: I think I would get hooked on it, even if it's a bit crap. So better for me not to play that kind of games.

I just stumbled upon the Limited Edition pre-order on Amazon.... soo tempting. Some long time guildmates from World of Warcraft are planning to play so it's probably just a matter of time for me haha.

I pre-ordered the Standard Edition earlier. As tempting as it may be to have the collectors, I can afford it and I want it.... £130 is just way too much to spend on a single computer game, after that I still have to pay for subscription fees.

The game looks like it will take my fancy, so I am looking forward to it, nothing groundbreaking though, but many people seem to think this game may even be a WoW killer. I'm not sold on that idea, but it looks good enough that i'l give it a good try.

Well I went ahead and ordered the Collectors Edition from Amazon. Feels a little bitter sweet at present as Bioware have announced that they are currently not supporting a product launch at this stage for any country outside of the North America and Europe until after the initial release of the game.

Announcement made on the SWTOR forum.

Pretty disappointing really.

Can't you play on american/eu servers as an australian? I'm quite disapointed with the release date, was hoping it would be sooner, especially after the recent delay in the release of Diablo 3.

Yes we can, but we'll have to put up with relatively high latency and lag. Connecting to an Asian or better yet Aus server is always the preferable option.

So this game is released in just under 4 weeks, everybody with an account is being invited to the weekend beta tests (likely to be 1-2 left before release). My best mate at the start of this month got invited to the full beta (not limited to weekends) and kindly passed along his account details for me to give it a try.

I won't give any spoilers. I've leveled a Sith Warrior (Juggernaught advanced class) to level 25 and a Sith Inquisitor to level 11 (assasin), wanted to keep the jedi side for when I get the game.

Its a strange game because its like a bioware single player rpg, but with other people running around and instanced group aimed missions (like world of warcraft) and battleground style pvp matches (also like world of warcraft). As a single player game I think it is fantastic, the voice acting is great and the story pulls you in and guides you a long.

I will say that for the reason that the story guides you along and you have all this voice acting and the cut scenes, it does not feel like an MMO and can even feel a little linear after a while. For a first play through it is going to be much more interesting than your typical MMO, but by time you do a second play through, with many of the missions being shared by all classes (atleast per faction) it is going to get old.

I haven't personally tried any of the group flashpoint missions or the pvp yet so I cannot comment, but I will say that the pvp appears to be mixed level, with players of all level in the same battleground and lower level players getting a buff to boost their stats to a somewhat fair standard.

Looking forward to it anyway, roll on Dec 20th, this game will claim my christmas for sure.

Early access (pre-order) release for this game starts today, rolling out until the 15th (depending on your pre-order redeem date, you can still pre-order it now), with official (non pre-order) release on the 20th.

That means if you pre-order, the game is essencially available to play. Any fans of the Mass Effect or Knights of the Old Republic games will sure feel at home, and are likely to really enjoy it.

I woke up this morning to an email from bioware letting me know I can start playing. Only problem is now that I've got work followed by a Christmas party function and the rest of my week is just as busy so I can't log in till Sunday :ouch:

Oh come on... you can't find a couple of minutes somewhere in there?! It's an MMO, you aren't supposed to stay relevant socially.
