You do know what this is all about, don't you? Bernie Ecclestone is pushing for a Nighthood...

Fia formula one "Underground" ?

I can't wait for BCE to ask Tony George for a morning race at Indy, so that The Continent won't be inconvenienced.

Ha, see, what did I say at the end of my post on the Aussie GP under threat thread -

what's next, Malaysian night race?

My god I'm psychic, either that or Bernie is plain and simple predictable...cryin' out loud..

Ironically I sarcastically suggested that in the same post too, and Canada and Brazil...I wonder if we should put money on it...

when are they gonna have to run the USGP, then?

Oh, wait, no-one watches that one.

Well, of all the circuits to run at night, Malaysia would make sense because it's hotter during the day than under the sack of a Nicaraguan lumberjack in a forest fire.

Hey, that means our coverage of Malaysia won’t be delayed by 6 and a half hours! My god I want to punch channel 10 in the face.

I'll join that club! Channel 10 suck. At least when it was on Nine's Wide World of Sports it was only 1 hour behind. And Japan was LIVE!!! My god, when was the last time I saw a live Japanese race?! Almost 10 years ago I think!!!

I'm all for these night races, and for early morning America's races. 👍

I'm sick of having my races ruined by news headlines hinting the results before the TV coverage has even shown the race!

Formula one car with headlights...

:D Not quite, would headlights even do anything at 190+ mph? You'd almost certainly have floodlights on every corner and straight.

Nice to know that Bernie is doing it for the good of the sport and not his back pocket...

:D @ Touring Mars

I definately haven't seen one since Eddie Irvine drove for Ferrari ...

You can get 50 yards from headlights. Sadly, at 200mph you travel over 100 yards a second.

At least its piece of mind that you can actually see something.

But I don't want a Malaysian night race or an Australian night race for that matter. Over here in North America, those races come on at a good time, usually around 10-11pm on Saturday night.

Why does no one get it? The tracks will be light like day! Floodlights are powerful.
Flood lighting is very harsh light and my take some adapting to from the drivers. Their biggest problem will be picking out the starting lights from the flood lights, but the planners should be able to get over that problem.

He's making F1 a more international sport by holding races in more locations, then forcing them to run at times that are good for the European TV audience.

Hmmmmmmmmmm

Exactly! It's totally arse-about-tit if you ask me :dunce:

Oooh Red Coloured floodlights, one way to attract a nightime audience:sly:

Do they allow communication over the radios at this point? a spotter could shout "5...4...3...2...1...Green!" If that's so...

One thing I've noticed is that Many of NASCAR's races are being run on Saturday night. (although, twice this season, Rained out to Sunday.) Perhaps Ecclestone thinks he can get better ratings if he gets prime-time audiences locally. works for the Southern boys...

But, one thing I do know, is that it'll cost MUCH more to install lights on a road course than on a oval, even a big one like Daytona, simply because the lighting situation is more complex. And use them for what, one race a year? The Sports Cars have headlights, are we gonna run artificial lighting, now? reducing the challenge? Or leave the big, expensive lights off?
