Static, and motherboards.

I installed my Asus A8V Deluxe motherboard, but before that I touched the inside of my case because thats what I read from a lot of sites before I should install the mobo. So my question is, are there many cases of people losing their computers because they didnt ground themselves in the first place? I'm a little worried because I want to make sure when I pick up the FX-53, that it will run a while not only "a couple of months, then a power surge might come, and say good-bye to your system." I have a surge protector on this system and will definitely buy one for my new system that im putting together. So is static a big issue with motherboards, cpu, video cards.......

It can be a big issue on all those 3 you listed but just make sure that you touch something conductable so that you know if your full of static or not. I've actually had a power surge once , but nothing was damaged afterwards. But I guess to be safe you should buy a surge protector incase the unexpected comes, cause you wouldnt want to damage your expensive FX-53 there.
 
When I was building my system I made sure I was grounded, but didn't bother with static straps or anything.

When you're fitting a motherboard, just be careful, and make sure that there are no spare mounting screws in the case that could short the circuits on the back of the board.

I actually built my system, then took it all apart again and rebuilt it, this time with properly-run cables. That first "dry run" really helped. And I'm used to building servers...
Remember, it doesn't matter if it takes you three days to build your computer. Just take care. Go slow. Plan.
 
Thanks, and another question I have is, when the computer is done, the bios went easy and everything works, does that mean there was no static shock from me to any components when I put the parts together? Or is a static problem come out later on? Because it will be done in about a month or two and i just wanna take a breath of fresh air that no static problems were involved when im done. Thanks again guys.
 
Well, I have found that static isn't as big of an issue, as companies like you to believe. There have been times when I would slip on my carpet and touch the mobo (obviously I wouldn't be grounded) and she'd boot up fine. According to what you've said, you're fine.

If your Mobodoes experience ESD, it won't even get to the BIOS. The mobo won't even power up. You might get some fans, and maybe a light or two, but other than that, you'd have yourself an expensive paperweight that scratches your desk.

Your mobo is fine if it got into the BIOS. :D
