Static to Motion Moxley's Way 2Dof to 3Dof

So buddy's rig is somewhat coming along, Got a rough sketch drawn up and he just recently got to test fit the seat. He Fits, Success lol


Here's what i found myself building over Xmas, from a mere 90-100Fps in AC with More than adequate setting's to 250+fps with everything near max.......Amazing how much easier it is to drive at 300+km/h lol

 
So Wanted a control panel of sorts that i can monitor a few thing's on, so came up with this.

fwiw there's 4 Ethernet cable's worth of connections....Rats nest....uhhh ya.












Still have the Shunts to install so that's why its showing 0.00
 
So Recently ive been discussing with some of the member's about the Traction loss frame requiring a little more support rather than just a lazy susan/bearing up front and a pair of Caster's out back. I noticed on my rig as well there was some "rocking" of the top frame at the front end on either side of the lazy susan. So without getting crazy technical with Caster's and plates to roll on, I fashioned this up with a pair of these roller balls, I had always wanted to play with them and actually found this pair in my shop so went to work with some Steel and aluminum angle.

I used a "wedge" to slightly lift the top frame so when i pulled the wedge, the balls have some tension on them.





 
Decided it was time for a Handbrake. Looked at a few DIY versions and set off scrounging for parts in the work shop, Turns out i had everything i needed, Including a Spare "Axis and Pot " on my SRW S1 to keep thing's simple.

The parts, An old Door protection plate, M10 bolt and spring, 5mm Aluminum plate, SRW S1 Pot with custom Carbon Fiber servo arm, Length of 8mm Hardboard for supports, Large supply of 1/4" nuts, bolts and washers, High pressure Grease, Small Servo Link arm and finally an E-cig Drip tip condom to prevent the spring from catching on the M10 threads













Next problem was a potential big one, I do use my rig for other games that dont include the motion or the wheel and pedals so i need to have a proper mouse pad availible, The hand brake was going to be right in the way technically.....so i started to play with a few angles and Oh my lord its gonna work out perfect, Mouse pad fits JUST Sooooo. Wow its like i planned it out somehow. lol









In the end this cost 0$ and good session in the work shop playing around, Couldn't be much happier with the overall feel and position of the HB. one more project off the list.
 
Also over the holidays i had a slight hiccup with my PC, My Hero VII decided to take a hike off to never never land, After roughly a week at the PC shop for diagnosis, they determined it would fire a i3 and i5 no problem, but wouldn't fire my i7 up, So A new Mobo would be required. Well I happen to have about a year left in my In store protection, So i was left to essentially pick what ever Mobo i wanted, well I wanted what i had, A ROG board. well with the 1150's on their way out and the 1151 being the new IN thing, They didn't have access to a 1150 mobo to compete with what I already had. Sooooo here came the real bonus, The i7 4790, the Platinum Dominator Ram and Mobo came to a total of like 875$ credit So In the end i settled on a New 1151 Hero VIII, i5 6600 (at the time ALL i7's are backordered for a month or more North America wide) and the same 2x8 Platinum Dominator DDR4 3000mhz ram. Add in 3 years extra warranty and I owed them a whopping 17$.......Next ticket would be the new card, Buddy upgraded to a 980 Classified so he sold this to me for a Smookin deal i couldn't refuse.

Was always lookin for a cheap tablet mount for my 10" went to the dollar store the other day and found this for 2$ and it works the ticket.








I also got Sick and tired of looking at my Worn out seat patches, so I went to the fabric store and got some Fake Suede and went to work on all 3 section's, Arm rests, Shoulder blade, and head rest. you can see the worn out portion under the patch. I used bobby pins to hold it in place, then used Shoe Goo to tack the edges (Fabric glue bleed through the suede).

Very Nice compared to the out of spec, different sized shenanigans i had before, :crazy:

I tried that scaling on monitor's, GPU and everything you suggested, but the monitor's were't having it. So in the end im glad i picked up the 3rd one to keep it all symmetrical. Those Pics are up next once i get some good shots, Iphone doesn't have a Big enough lens/FOV to cover all 120" wide and the Room isn't That deep. :P

I'm very familiar with that problem. I always strugle too getting all 3 tv's in one shot.

Lol your talkin bout the mazda TC body aren't ya ? Touring car body "styles" are rather limited. so your left with like 2-3 choices. At the same time, i wouldn't say No to a 10K+Rpm Rotary engine.
 
Screen's were always something i wanted but never had the space to for them until i did a 180* on the room and made it possible, lol :P








Next thing i always wanted was an adjustable wheel plate, so with a little help from Steve Spenceley and his 80-20 version, I came up with this.

Why trips over VR?

A couple reason's really, Haven't personally experienced VR for starters, I wear glasses, 43's only cost me 250$ a pop, VR is still in its infancy with resolution's and FOV, Ive wanted trips for a Long long time And i have a decent amount of buddy's in the chair and most likely not all would take to VR as well as trips....Ill Head down the VR path when its 100% supported and the screen's have gotten a significant jump in quality.

the Original Guy Bailed on it after investing in essentially everything (Motion gear, BN Sparco Seat,Fana gear, screens ect ect ect).....Found another local who was up for the build (he bought up all the BN in the box fana stuff and the Obuttto Rig Motion stuff ect ect, So now its in planning stage....He Was tempted by a fellow Canucks 80/20 DIY motion build thats WIP, but Damn is that Stuff pricey when you work it all out.
 
Buddy always whined about not being able to use my shifter (i have a shorter forearms compared to him) So i decided to make him an adjustable plate so he can have some H pattern fun too. It may not look like a lot of travel, but it actually is, Fully extended is a No go for me, Im physically having to reach for the knob....So mission accomplished. :)

I thought about the Whole pedal/Wheel deck on a powered seat rail, but im worried there's a bit of wobble in the rails i could care less to introduce to the rig. How Solid are the rails you got ? and what are they from ?

Damn, I'd love to come off looking all impressive here, but my motorised pedal deck is not a DIY set up.

You guys may or may not remember that I bought a package deal from a business that was closing down. At the time of purchase, I didn't actually know that I'd be getting powered adjustability. As it turns out I was buying pretty much a SimXperience stage 5 with a few choice embellishments (ECCI 7000, CST F1 pedals, Simworx sequential shifter and handbrake). Happy surprise of course, especially since it is very sturdy. I had it pulled apart at one point, but that was a while ago so I don't remember too much about it's workings. What I do remember is that it's basically like a dual ball screw set up running on two little motors. It's not that easy to access under there, but I can go fishing for details if there's anything specific you'd like to know.
 
Guys surely something akin to a cupboard lift or tv-lift that could be mounted for horizontal action would work? Or adapting something similar to how a motorised recliner works?

Also these types of solutions are available, might be suitable and available from kitchen/installation manufacturers.

Bit over extravagant in my mind but perhaps seat sliders are too much physical work for some :)
