If You See This Text, Then You Might As Well Vote!
Does this (or something like this) ever help you race?
I see this on most race cars, and on all of the Race Modified cars.

*"The Stripe" is reffering to the Yellow thing on the wheel in the pic.

It's also a quick visual tool for when you are sliding sideways, or recovering from a spin as you may not be pointing the way you think you are.

The more the stripe is off centre when driving, the more speed you are scrubbing off....

It's a guide to the "center" of the wheel. But when using a DS3, it may not be that useful. Even in cockpit view.

Doesn't help in a game, but does on a race track - mainly for after a disorientating spin or the like as then you know when the wheels are pointing straight again.

I have a DFGT and it doesn't have a line to Mark the centre but I have one on the wheel of my banger stock car and it helps a lot when ur flat out brood side in 2 nd gear goin round a corner cos comin on too the straight u can let go of the wheel and know where to catch it

^nailed it^

In gt5 it's rarely necessary or useful, but real world racing, when your heart is pounding and you are feeling actual g's in your seat, when you lose it, it helps. Even when you start to lose it it helps as you memorize corners you start to memorize where that thing will be in your peripheral vision. Gt5 you don't really recognize it's usefullness.

I think that I'll just put a piece of yellow tape on the wheel to make it look cool.
It's a good tool, but with the set up I have, it's out of my vision, I sit like 2 feet from the TV which is about 2 feet higher than my seat.
So it wouldn't really do anything other than make the wheel look cool.
Kind of like the LED lights on the G27, nice touch, but I'm not going to use them.

This....

You want as few inputs as possibl when in the heat of battle IRL.... if you can stick the turn, the tape should be in the relatively same spot for your next apex every time....

The only time this is useful in a spin is if you have a steering wheel that never has more than one upright position. Most race cars have this... but there are a number of street cars that come with this that have 3 upright positions, so its no good for spinning.

It is nice for helping rythm in corners though.

It's not exactly meant for this but when I'm at the track and do quick alignment adjustments I can tell really fast that I adjusted one side the wrong way (sometimes I'm in such a hurry I don't pay enough attention oops) when the stripe on my wheel is a tad off. It has also helped me notice little vibrations that I wouldn't have caught as easily. As for helping my driving line? Im sure it probably does a little bit and I just don't really notice.

DS3 FTW! I ran a stripe down my left joystick too  Seriously though, I see that stripe in many Le Mans, SCCA, and NASCAR cars, meaning even the pros could use the extra assistance, so if I had a wheel, I would definitely run some yellow or white E-tape around the top.

If you do rally or drift events it can be a very useful tool. Since you can turn the wheel twice or 3 times before hitting the maximum turning radius. With those multiple turns of the wheel and you can lose sight to when it's dead center 'cuz you can still have that tape centered at the top of the steering wheel but still have the wheels(Tires) turned slieghtly and not pointed straight forward. So while making drastic manuevers you keep a mental count on how many turns you have made with the steering wheel and how many turns it has to make to get back to center position. All this just by watching the steering wheel with your periferral vision. Kinda like at the tip of your nose.

I Just put a strip of Aluminum Tape on the middle of my DFGT. I'll see if it works...

It's a great aid in real-life, especially in the wet. I'm not sure it's so much help in the virtual world... but its presence is realistic.

It's also handy at the strip when your car's doing a wheel stand at launch and all you can see out the front windscreen is sky.

Yeah, just point that stripe straight up to the heavens and God will show you the way. ;)

In a race car that is in a bad spin often the steering wheel needs to be released in order not to break your thumbs if you hit or are hit. The strip helps reorient your hands and the position of the wheel when it stops spinning and you can regain control.
