Steering Wheel

Not sure. Let me use the search feature to find 1 out of the 100 thread talking about differences. Ill get back to you. Hold your breathe.

I'll give you the non-dick answer. Once you play with a (good) wheel and get used to it, you'll never want to use the ds3 controller again....ever

Huge difference. It's like night and day.

At least get the DFGT.

It's different for everyone and can also depend on the wheel you are looking to buy.

For me, I'm faster with the wheel but more importantly it makes the game much more immersive. I feel like I'm driving a real car. The better the wheel the better the experience and it can make you even faster due to accuracy, better brake pedals, etc. I couldn't tell you how much faster I am though, because I've been using a wheel since Prologue came out. But when I upgraded to a G27 from a DFP I became even faster. I was about 18 hours into the 24 hours of Le Mans when I received it and within 15 minutes I beat my previous best lap by over a second and with no draft.

Sorry for the rambling post, get a wheel. 👍

I won't be as mean than Will, dude you are missing out! Get a wheel and a chair...I use a G27 bolted to a Playseats chair. Let's put it this way, and I've said it before and I'll say it again...it's like trying to have sex with just the tip! You are missing out!!

Lol, I don't know if that is an appropriate analogy Ken but saying 'you're doing it wrong' might be better than you're missing out.

I just got my wheel a few weeks ago and it has made the game play so much better. There is still a learning curve to using a wheel and initially your lap times may not be as good as they were with the controller but you will improve.

If you do decide to get the wheel I suggest that you spend a little more and get the Logitech G27. It can be bought quite oftenly for around $200. You won't regret it.

Also, do yourself a favor and make sure you mount it properly. For me, mounting it to a coffee table wasn't going to work. Either buy a wheel stand, a playseat, or do what I did and build yourself a sim racing cockpit for around $100.

I bought the G25 in order to play Simbin's GTR2 on the PC and I could never get it to work with PS2 or PS3 correctly way back when. So rather then play with the controller, spent the extra 135.00 for the GT wheel when buying GT5 in December.

I prefer the GT Wheel vs the G25 since you can easily dial and change settings on the fly.

You will be smoother with a wheel, and that can translate to faster lap times as you can maintain good racing lines. It's also important to have consistent lines when racing other people online so you dont tick them off because you're all over the place. Get a wheel, you won't regret it.

This is the most important thing to remember when switching. Nice setup Eric.

I played with a controller from the original Gran Turismo through GT3. When GT4 came out I got a wheel and haven't looked back. I won't play without a wheel.

Bought a wheel (G27) a few months before GT5 released. No way i can go back to a controller now. Takes some adjusting and your times will struggle. But once you get over the transition its amazing!

played with a controller from gt1 to gt4 sadly
now im older and can afford things , so i got a ps3 and prologue + a wheel and then gt5 , playing with a controller is retarded, i feel sorry for the people that can affort a decent wheel :D

this is from the date we build it.
now is all painted black /gray , have suede floor :) and is sitting on top of 3 15 inch bmw wheels so it could be alligned with my wall mounted 27 inch lcd :)

want to get a 3d plasma and take put it back on the floor :) but for now it does the job

Huge huge difference.
I am using G25 with Obutto racing chair.
It makes you thinking you are actually "driving" the car

I currently use a controller to play GT5...how much of a difference does a wheel make?

Playing GT5 with a controller is like masturbating imagining Megan Fox:tdown:
Playing GT5 with a good wheel is like having sex with Megan Fox in person:tup::drool:

For me it's more about the pedals than the wheel. The steering control is obviously better, but it's really hard to overstate how much better you'll be able to modulate both braking and accelerating.

Buying a wheel was the best decision I've ever made in videogaming.

I got the DFGT just for this game and loved it so much, I bought my brother one as well.....Then gave my DFGT to my wife and bought a G27.

For me, hands down the best experience you will have on a playstation.

Yeah, if you buy a decent wheel the whole 'Experience' of GT5 changes.. With a gamepad you are 'Controlling' a car on screen.. with a wheel you are 'Driving' a car on screen. Add in some decent headphones and it is just incredible! :)

I had a wheel before and absolutely hated it. It was a cheap one though, so I thinking maybe investing in a good one would make it better.

Pelican Cobra TT wheel, the cheap PS2 one. Piece of junk that was.

The DFGT which goes on sale for under $100 pretty regularly it seems would be a great start...

If you can afford it grab a higher end one like the G25/27 or Fanatec wheel but I was playing with even my old Driving Force Pro the other day and it was plenty fun.
