I was just wondering what verison of STi's do you like more. The Older Verison like the 22B, P1, Verison VI, etc... or the Newer Verison as in the 03 STi with those bug shape headlights and the 04 STi.

Me, i like the older STi's. Look only. I know performance wise the 04 STi Spec C is superior.

My favorite STi is the 22B its the closest STi to the rally machines with its close 5 gear transmission.

I think that (22B aside), the STi versions of the Mk1 Impreza got a bit silly, and that probably the STi 5 was about the limit of what's acceptable.

I actually really quite like the current style one (post facelift)

Alot of pics i know.

every evo seemed to be better than the sti in performance, were there any versions, or yrs of the sti that beat the evo? like in handling, acceleration. the current evo seems so much better than the current sti, i think subaru needs to improve the sti a bit more. looks wise, i think the back window area of the evo got uglier, it slants down too steep, and the front of the subaru got uglier, the rest is decent.

There are best and worst of every car and the STi and Evo is a big comparison in the auto world, almost as much as Corvette vs Mustang... etc.

STi are better at high speed cornering then the Evolutions. The STi can hold a higher speed throughout a corner. Evo's are better with braking and handling. The Subaru 4WD system is no doubt incredible. Its known to be one of the best. Audi Quattro are also great 4WD systems.

The 22B dynos around 350bhp thats amazingly fast. The 22B is no doubt a special STi. Only 400 was imported or made (i forgot its one of those two ;) ) Alot of people seem to think that Evolutions are way better in tracks but thats not always true i know of numerous occasion that the Evo is beaten by STi's.

Keiichi Tsuchiya when driving a Verison VI STi said "The way to reduce understeer in a STi is to accelerate during the corner. Many people are not brave enough to do that."

03 STi, Why? If i was to pick the newer STis i am sure i would pick the new one 04 verison. To me the 03 headlight is just :banghead:

But I have videos of Imprezas beating Evo.

Anyway, they are both good cars IMO.

Good ol' GC8 STi for me, which is the second one down in rollazn's picture. There a few lucky, patient, and skilled SOBs that drop JDM STi engines into their 2.5RS GC8s. I would like to do that, but I can't afford to have my car out of commition for a long period of time.

I'm starting to like the new generation more and more. But I think the new Legacy GT is even sexier!

As for the whole Evolution vs. STi debate.... I've started to hate Evolutions. Not because of the car, I love the car. Just the drivers, thinking that they're the best with that car. When I have enough money, and own an STi. I will whip them all, and not through powerful modifications. Just pure, simple, skilled driving. Luckily the time it'll take me to gain this skill should be about ten to twenty or so years, just the time when I can afford an STi.

I like the more round apperance of the newer version, the older ones are too much *boxes* on wheels for me but that's just my opinion.

I like the yellow and black STi, with the "bug-eye" lights, it was a bery limited edition with only about 500 made, which all sold in one night. I think it was called the ST02?

which yr imprezas beats the evo? but werent most evos usually better handlers than the imprezas? anyways, look at the current evo, and sti, the evo beats the sti in handling, and with that awd system in the jdm version, itll be even better. plus the evo like gets almost the same time, or even beats the sti with less power, and the jdm evo def beats the jdm sti in acceleration.

Its the older bug-eyed model called Spec-C. Its close, but still a little faster around a track than the EVO 7.

yeah it's faster on the straights but the evo catches up on the corners

Trust me they are about even. It depends on the track they are racing on and the driver's skill. Both the Evo and STi is incredible fast. Check out the time on tsukuba some time evo wins sometime STi wins. I have alot of video where the STi spec C beat evos.

As you can see most of the time it depends on driver skills. Extremely close times.

Its 2000 and down is the older verison of the STi. In the year 2001 its totally different.

Beautiful. 👍

At a recent autocross event I had a chance to ride in one. I imagine that it was the best way (for me at least) to experience and STi. Sure, you can test drive one. But you have road speeds and other cars to deal with. There, you're pushing both the car's and your limits.

The launch was wonderful and it started boosting immediatly. I've ridden in a few turbocharged relatively stock DSMs before, but the turbo feeling wasn't quite like this. First gear gets to 6500rpms and the STi beeps, telling you that redline is coming soon.

Shift. Restart the powerband.

The car handeled marvoulously through the first hard left and through the slalom, getting faster and faster. The next section delt with a couple short straight with a round-about. Again, the STi was amazing, seemingly much better than my RS felt. A part of the parking lot was recently repaved with a much slipperier surface. This troubled some of the other vehicles, but the STi and my RS didn't seem affected by the change in surface type through one of the round-abouts. A quick, close chicane, and then off to the races.

The STi wrapped out 2nd gear right before the brakes had to hold the car to the course. A tricky jog that you wouldn't look twice at, made my Subaru's Potenzas squeel all four runs. Being the better driver, he knew this and adjusted accordingly. A long round about and then a long straight, where 3rd gear was required.

The Subaru showed a excellent blend of power and handling throughout the rest of the course. The STi could of had a little less body roll. At one point I could of sworn I was about an inch away from the ground, and then it snapped back around, causing some sliding right at the end. Otherwise, perfect car to me.

The Evolutions don't seem to show up here. Since their release it seems everyone has gone for the STi. A good choice in my opinion, and one I will make down the road.

Wow that cool. For Autocross the Evo is faster stock for stock in every comparison i seen in Best Motoring. I am sure its the same with the Evo VIII and our STi.

STi are great car no doubt, my cousin is trying to sell his eclipse to get a STi. He did want the Evo at first, but then he realize that his Eclipse isnt that reliably and want to try something else. Of course Subaru are great reliable cars, so he looked up the STi and feel in love. What can you say. Great car! 👍 Although i do like Lan Evo's better i got to admit STi are great cars.

Sorry Roll but i'm with the Evo all the way.. Looks like its time for another Comparision.. Get on aim if you wanna do it ehh?

I stated that i like Lancer Evolutions more. Evo V and VI is the best Evo ever... i would take it over any STi's....

So my list is basically

Evo VI
Evo V
STi 22B
STi P1
Evo VII

Overall i perfer Evos.

That is a 2002 and 2003 Impreza headlight design. I dont really like that head light style i rather have the 2004 STi headlights. Which is this one...

i dont like how subauru uses struts all around, although they do a pretty good job, i think that the evo has the better suspension setup, which is multilink rear, and struts on the front, not struts all around like the subaru. i also like the evos engine better, cause of its closed deck design, instead of open deck like those subaru boxer engines, it can actually make more power, or it can take it better. i mean i know that its only noticeable at really high hp range, and that not a lot of people are gonna want to, or get that much power, but i like the fact that the engine can take higher hp better, so it seems more durable. i dont know, i really like the sti, i like how it looks better cause it doesnt look as boxy like the evo 8, although i like the front of the evo 8 better, but i like the way the older evo 6 looks better than some of the sti's. yea the evo, and the sti are probably really close in performance, but i cant get over the fact that the evo seems to have the better setup.

Just because of that you cant say it has a better "setup". Maybe in your opinion it is but i think different wise. Even though i like LanEvos more than STis I still agree that STi is a great car. It might be the torque band or gear ratio but in Best Motoring the STi type RA Spec C (2003) is faster than the LanEvo VII RS at the straight.

Lancer Evolutions are faster in braking and corner enternce but the STi are better at corner speed... how you might ask.. Because of its well balance chassic and suspention. Its hard to judge the faster of the two. The evo was built on a different concept where to built a good 4WD supported by computers. The impreza on the other hand was design on a totally different concept. The Impreza has achieve the same as the Evo by improving and futher improving the raw essistance of the car itself by not turning to the computers.

The reason the Impreza is so fast is the secret of the symmetric layout. The engine is placed infront of the front wheels where it make the balance good on both sides. Another one is that the transmission is behind the engine and behind the front wheels as well. It prevent all the weight to be on top of the front wheels, helping to balance out the entire car. The impreza weight is organize leaving much weight in the back and front as well. As a 4 door sedan its a great balance.
