yea i see what you mean, but for the suspension, although struts do a good job, its been proven that double wishbone type gives better overall grip on hard corners, although the evo has struts on the front, it has multilink in the rear, and its shown that the evo engines were able to take more power than those subaru boxer engines. now i know some of it might have to do with my opinion, but some of it has some truth to it. all those things you said about the subaru are nice, but why dont you give me reasons why you like the evo better?

Although the Lancer has better turning and could dominate in autocrossing events, it seems like the turbo lag would kill it. If your coming out of corner at relatively low RPMs the STi is already boosting, it would seem the Evo would be struggling to push out all 21 PSI. I could be wrong. Braver people could toss it into 1st gear as well, but I can never seem to do that.

Why... i guess its personal opinions. I have always loved Evo, almost as much as my beloved dream car Skyline GT-R. Evos always look good IMO. Even though i favor the V and VI more i still would love to have any evo. Ill take the Evo I too, i dont mind if its 250ps i still love how aggressive it look. At first, when i heard of the Evolution, i didnt know alot about cars didnt even know what an evo was all that drawn me to it was the looks. After i started to get into cars more the more i love the Evos. Although it may not be my ultimate dream car (my current one is a Skyline GT-R R34 Vspec II) its still on my top 3. Its great.

To narrow it down... why i like it better. Looks and it also has the better performance then the STi most of the time. In autocross or track Evo are more likely to be superior.

Evo VIII stock do push out more boost then the 2004 STi stock.

you see, most evos usually turn out better numbers than stis of the same class. i just think the evo is a better car overall. i just dont like the how the newest evos rear window slants down too steep, and the top part has too much area to it, like it makes it look like an echo from the side view, but it looks good from angles, front, and rear.

Thats on some track. Some track STi wins some Evo wins. it mostly depends. On straight speed 1/4 the STi mostly wins its all out faster most of the time. They are very fast and depends mostly on the driver of the cars. On tsukuba the time was merely half a second away from fastest evo and fastest sti stock that is and that is impressive. You also have to consider the conditions.

I am not saying the Evo win most of the circuit track or road course probably 75% of the time Evo would beat STi on circuit. On 1/4 STi would beat Evo probably 65% of the time. On rally it depends on the driver but most of the time STi would come out superior in rally races.

These car are really close to each other... its like NSX vs Skyline both are incredible fast in 1/4 both known to run 12.8s and on the track most of the time the NSX and Skyline runs about the same. When i say NSX im talking about NSX type S or Type S Zero The NSX-R is out of the skyline class its way faster.

I might not make sense ;)

basically my list is like this.

Evo VI
Evo V
STi 22B
Evo VII
Evo VIII
STi P1
Evo IV
STi Verison (basically from verison III to VI)
STi (new one 04)

That is how i would rank them.

Car and Driver posted 14.5 PSI, I told this to a guy that works for a Subaru dealership in Dallas. He says he drives STis around all day, and is currently dropping a JDM Spec WRX engine into his 2000 RS. He also says they only boost at 13.5 and the WRXs boost at 14.5. I trust him.

only 13.5:rolleyes: , my skyline is faster than my04 STi from rolling start(NOTE rolling start, not off the line), and thats on 7psi

Yours is a GTS right? The rear-wheel driver one, correct?

If you go to Subaru boards you'll see guys say that they're slow from a rolling start, and won't race lesser powered cars for that fact. It goes both ways though, I guess. I've seen 0-30mph times from WRXs and even my 2.5RS that beat Ferrari's and such. Hard to say if its true or not, but still, impressive, in my mind.

the problem i noticed with the STi was he changed three gears while i was still in one. so i had no problem getting away from him

and which cars do the subarus guys say are slow from rolling start? if there talking about R33 skyline GTS25T's (turbo model) then they dont know what there talking about.

also obviously the 0-30mph times will be damn quick, because the STi can launch with almost no wheelspin

a STi would leave me for dead off the line, i get too much wheel spin

The Subaru guys say WRXs suck without the launch.

Subarus seem to have short gears. But I'm not sure that short. My RS goes something like so:

First: ~28mph
Second: ~53mph
Third: ~75mph

I think while others are a bit longer, I think compared to other cars they're considered short.

no problems

i was in second at about 70mph before i go to third, and the STi was already in 4th

i think the REX would have been faster if it didnt have to shift so often, but i suppose the short gears are more suited to rallying

Wow. Yup, short gears! Even 4th seems a bit too far though. I would of thought 3rd.

In response to your edit: Yeah. I don't thin Subaru wants the STi for the drag, more of a turning sort of car.

he may have shifted to 4th just after i went to 3rd (cant remember the exact details) but i do know he was shifting atleast twice as much as i was

the old one is like the original impreza, thats why i love it, but if i was to buy one, i would go with the new one

I like the old style, or the brand new ones, like 04. Those rounded bug headlights sucked IMO.

how much preformance diffrence is there between a brand new STI or like the p1 or 22b old ones?

The old 22B dynoed a impressive 350hp and 302 ftlb of torque, although it is lighter and have more power, the suspection isnt as good. Remind you this is a 1998 model. You cannot compare the technology of the 1998 model to the 2004 Spec C.

Eh I would take almost any Impreza or Evolution old or new...... I fell in love with the Impreza watching the WRC so I think I would take that over the Evo for sentimental reasons.....
