Just don't tick off Vat, he'll ban your ass to kingdom come.

Just a little side question Vat, do you ban people straight off? Or discuss it as a group..?

Depends on the situation.

I know, I know, you weren't asking me.

Generally discuss it as a group - we do send warnings out, people do get chances to correct errant behaviour. Our preference is to not ban people if we can avoid it.

What a random?!

Don't worry, you don't do anything mod wise anyways....

Lazy bugger.

I do, I just don't make some huge announcement everytime.

I closed a thread, and banned someone today. W00t!

As a n00b to the GTP Forums I'd have to say you've got a damn good bunch of vets and mods here. All I've run across have been helpful and respectful to me, even though I'm sure I've asked some real dumbass questions. (And I *KNOW* i've made at least 1 dumbass comment, though I feel that has been remedied.)

I also can't count the number of times I've seen someone say "Welcome to GTP!"

And actually Concept, I think many people genuinely DO care how much Jordan has to pay for bandwidth. I've seen quite a few boards go down because the owner couldn't afford to keep it up any more. I've only been posting here for a couple weeks tops, and I'd already miss it if Jordan had to shut it down.

Also, I agree with kideng about damn near everything he's said on this topic. (only "damn near" because I don't have a perfect memory and he may have said something I didn't fully agree with)

But all that being said, I find it difficult to find things with the search function, though I don't give up until after 30 minutes or so of trying. It's also real damn annoying since I've downgraded to AOHell it takes years to load a search page. (I connect @ 31.2 kb/s) But this is my problem, not everyone else's, so I deal with it, though I may... um... %!@#% about it every once in a while, and as an American it's my God given right. (Where's this forum based out of, Jordan doesn't give a location, other than he's not in my bedroom. *quickly checks the hall*)

morning star, here's a few things I've learned about how the world works, and it's helped me understand my place in the food chain wherever I go:

How It Works
1) You don't like it you can go to hell.
2) I don't like it I can go to hell.
3) You don't like me you can go to hell.
4) I like me so... I can go to hell.

Hm... that too rude morning star? no? well... I don't think I can do any more than that without tickin off the mods... ( :D *waves at the mods*).

Anyone who can't take someone being rude to them on a bulletin board hasn't gone out in the real world often enough... but that's just my opinion... though I've found my opinion is usually the best opinion I hear (hmm... wonder why? :D)

Hm... what else did I wanna say? Ah yes... I was wondering what the levels of titles were and how many posts it takes to achieve them. (All I could find was the thing that Jordan posted about 500 posts lets you make it yourself.)

Also, is my signature acceptable? The rules say it should only be six lines, but I read that after I made it, and I've seen a few that were over 6 lines I think... anyway... if you have any probs with anything I do, just pimp slap me and I'll do my best to correct it.

Hi Jaster83

You make some decent points, so I'll leave the main body of your post unremarked.

On the status issue, it's a bit of a surprise how it changes. You'll not get a mod telling you what the levels are, and hopefully the members won't either.

Your sig is, I would say, at the limit of what's acceptable. No bigger or longer please. :)

I'm glad someone actually noticed the efforts of the team! :D

It's a U.S. based site, available to THE WORLD! ;) Search times can be annoying, but I commend you for putting a 30 minute search time cap before you hit the threads with questions. That's a technique I use here as well as other boards, it's just respect for other people's time.

*waving back* It was close, but it wasn't too rude in my estimation as it wasn't directly related to a particular member, it sounded more of a "Way Of Life" statement.

Anyone who can't take someone being rude to them on a bulletin board hasn't gone out in the real world often enough... but that's just my opinion... though I've found my opinion is usually the best opinion I hear (hmm... wonder why? :D)

Try the search feature! :trouble: :D

I did a search for you and found this post.

Also, is my signature acceptable? The rules say it should only be six lines, but I read that after I made it, and I've seen a few that were over 6 lines I think... anyway... if you have any probs with anything I do, just pimp slap me and I'll do my best to correct it.

--Jaster

Yes, there is a six line limit.

And thanks for your post, it was refreashing to read.

Oh and.... Welcome to GTPlanet!

My goal is to be refreshing, glad it was accomplished :D

Thank you very much for the welcome, Pako.

I also did quite a bit of editting on my signature, and got it down to 6 lines and it's still readable.

I found that thread and that's where I found out you can make your own title up when you hit 500 posts, but I was wondering what the different levels were. Like at 25 posts you're called this:_____ and at 50 you're called this: _______ etc.

Awe, Guthrie, tell me, pawwwweeeeeezzzz? Now I REALLY wanna know. dammit

The main reason I limit myself to 30 minutes on searches is due to pride, and the fact that I had being a bother... thank my dad for that. He raised me well IMHO. (I've thanked him profusely for raising me so I didn't turn out like... morning star)

Oh, and how rude can I be in a PM? (I think i originally asked in the 1st message, but editted it out) I'm usually fairly calm and meet any flames or ludicrously stupid posts with humorous witty banter, but sometimes I feel people just need to be cussed... comes from living in Dallas I suppose. Such as morning star, someone should've cussed him back. If he was directing any such volatile language at me I would surely send him a PM so he could feel my wrath. If I was one of you mods I wouldn't have responded nearly so politely. to your self control.

(lol... wrath on the internet... wrath is such a cool word. THE WRATH OF HEAVEN IS UPON YOU!... FEEL MY WRATH!... hehe-sorry)

I think it goes:
*snip*:D

I think it goes, 50-100-200-500 (which is the custom)

*snip*

chamnged it to that themselves)
from there up all the users have a modified sig! so i cant tell what their real status is

 , well I guess that won't happen, eh?

Haha, nice snipping... a lil late though for Viper's original. I forgot what comes after Junior, but last is addict I think he said. Sorry :D

Expect to see a *SNIP* in here somewhere later.

ok, the old guy has to comment...how come...how come when some new member to the GTP world discovers that hybrids exist, and goes to the hybrids and gamesharks forum and asks the usual obvious questions, everyone trips over each other racing to call him stupid and hollering SEARCH ENGINE! SEARCH ENGINE!...but if you go to the rumblestrip almost every thread is nothing but pure spam, even this thread is mostly unreadable b.s., in fact, i had to skip over pages 2 and 3 cause, well, the spam was getting boring...

in other words, why is it cool to spam up your post count like crazy in an "off topic" forum, but wasting space asking honest questions in H & G is wasting valuable bytes...is it more expensive or what?..or does it just make the moderators feel like they're doing something useful...

by the way, you're a moderator, big deal, get over it...i'm rebuilding the 1S and 2S loadcenters on the USS Eisenhower, and nobody's pinning a medal on my chest...

Wow, interesting thread. I've seen threads like this come up in the past. You have a couple of elements that come into play.

1.) You have vetrens that have been here since the beginning of time and have actually read each and every post on this site, therefore, not finding the answer to your question by using the search button is an insult to how much time they have spent into contributing to this site. Image a person who took the time to create the 'Prize' list, and a noob comes along asking what car they win at 50%. The Vet put hours upon hours to make the post, and the noob couldn't take 5 minutes to search for the answer.

2.) Not knowing what to type in the search box... I've been a victim of this myself. I have found myself searching high and low for something, all the while, it was right under my nose, but I wasn't typing the correct keywords in the search field.

3.) Lastly, you have the experience (former noob) member that has a chance to make themselves feel better about themselves by belittling a brand new member. This type of ingredients makes for a abusive environment for the new member.

Point being, the search feature is there for a reason, to aid in the delivery of information without bringing up 'old news' that has been discussed to death. If all your looking for is answers, then a year old thread with that information should surfice. If, on the other hand, your looking for feedback, I would say a new thread would definately be in order which would help stimulate current feedback in your thread.

I can't speak for everyone here, but I can tell you that I have recieved a polethera of help with my questions. And I try to return the same kind of service. If I come across a question that I know has been discussed in the past, I will look it up, and will tell the member what 'keywords' to use to find the answer they are looking for.

I'm sorry that you have gotten a sour taste in your mouth from the way that you have been treated, but I do not agree with creating new threads instead of using the search feature.

BTW - Feel free to PM any Moderator for a specific catigory if you have a question. We will be more than happy to give you or show you how to get the information that your looking for.

Just incase you missed this post when you were skiping all that spam.

P.S. You should be commended for your efforts in aiding with our National Defense.

Also, found this interesting:

As Saxo, one of the moderators, says, "The idea was that once the community grows, you ask a question and get an answer as quick as possible. You can say this has been done many times before but the main difference is to get away from the 'egos' and 'flame' responses you get on usenet. Many times a post to a newsgroup will get a response such as RTFM which can be a good solution, it's not really friendly."

I was looking up some information for a user and found this listed in the page. The original link can be found here:

you really hate spam that's why you replied 3 times in 7 minutes. thought I'd point this out.

And yes, thank you very much for bostering our national defense. However, you get paid to do your job, Jordan doesn't get paid to run this site, he PAYS to run this site. I bet if you had to pay the government to work on the Eisenhower you wouldn't work on the Eisenhower would you?

You also have to realize that forums have their own little chain of command - just like the military does - which is to be respected.

For example, in boot camp, your Drill Instructor has complete control over everything you do in their world. Their world is boot camp, so while you're in boot camp they have complete and utter control over you. Same here, the mods are the DI's, and everyone else is the lowly private. Though these mods are quite a bit easier to get along with than most of the DI's I've known. They also put up with backtalk a lot more than a DI would...

Never thought I'd be the one defending the authority figures... my old school teachers wouldn't know what the hell was going on.

mr. jaster, you're reading what you want to read, not what i wrote...i didn't say i hated spam, sometimes it's fun...but why is it allowed, encouraged even, in some forums here, but...well, if you didn't understand what i was talking about the first time, you never will...by the way, what is bostering ?...as for your boot camp theory, there's a reason for that kind of discipline in the military, it's a life or death situation, for real...if you're in a real battle situation, the lives of you and your buddies depends on everybody cooperating and doing what you're supposed to be doing, the way you're supposed to be doing it...this aint life and death, this is entertainment, a hobby forum, all about good times and sometimes even intelligent philosophical discourse, it's a pretty cool place most of the time...as for jordan, i was with the old site, and watched it grow, and back then jordan had a different persona on-line, he was more like a regular GT lover, in it for the fun, not about ego...now, i don't know, i think he let the success of this thing go to his head, no biggie, i've seen it happen many times...he's still a cool guy (i guess, he dosn't seem to let his personality out like he used to)...he started all this for the love of the game, well, how's he doing now? is he fast? (i'm not, but i still love trying, well, except for that dang SS 11 track  )...anyway, jaster and all y'all dudes ( hey, people really talk that way out here, it cracks me up), don't let me discourage you, i love getting fired up and letting the words flow, i encourage everyone to do the same...if i'm wrong, let me know (like you wouldn't anyway  )...just remember, this isn't life and death, essentially it's all spam...if it's fun, it's good...just let the poor old innocent newbies have a go at it too, at least in the hybrids forum...
