As a n00b to the GTP Forums I'd have to say you've got a damn good bunch of vets and mods here. All I've run across have been helpful and respectful to me, even though I'm sure I've asked some real dumbass questions. (And I *KNOW* i've made at least 1 dumbass comment, though I feel that has been remedied.)
I also can't count the number of times I've seen someone say "Welcome to GTP!"
And actually Concept, I think many people genuinely DO care how much Jordan has to pay for bandwidth. I've seen quite a few boards go down because the owner couldn't afford to keep it up any more. I've only been posting here for a couple weeks tops, and I'd already miss it if Jordan had to shut it down.
Also, I agree with kideng about damn near everything he's said on this topic. (only "damn near" because I don't have a perfect memory and he may have said something I didn't fully agree with)
But all that being said, I find it difficult to find things with the search function, though I don't give up until after 30 minutes or so of trying. It's also real damn annoying since I've downgraded to AOHell it takes years to load a search page. (I connect @ 31.2 kb/s) But this is my problem, not everyone else's, so I deal with it, though I may... um... %!@#% about it every once in a while, and as an American it's my God given right. (Where's this forum based out of, Jordan doesn't give a location, other than he's not in my bedroom. *quickly checks the hall*)
morning star, here's a few things I've learned about how the world works, and it's helped me understand my place in the food chain wherever I go:
How It Works
1) You don't like it you can go to hell.
2) I don't like it I can go to hell.
3) You don't like me you can go to hell.
4) I like me so... I can go to hell.
Hm... that too rude morning star? no? well... I don't think I can do any more than that without tickin off the mods... (*waves at the mods*).
Try the search feature!Anyone who can't take someone being rude to them on a bulletin board hasn't gone out in the real world often enough... but that's just my opinion... though I've found my opinion is usually the best opinion I hear (hmm... wonder why?)
Hm... what else did I wanna say? Ah yes... I was wondering what the levels of titles were and how many posts it takes to achieve them. (All I could find was the thing that Jordan posted about 500 posts lets you make it yourself.)
Also, is my signature acceptable? The rules say it should only be six lines, but I read that after I made it, and I've seen a few that were over 6 lines I think... anyway... if you have any probs with anything I do, just pimp slap me and I'll do my best to correct it.

On the status issue, it's a bit of a surprise how it changes. You'll not get a mod telling you what the levels are, and hopefully the members won't either.

Wow, interesting thread. I've seen threads like this come up in the past. You have a couple of elements that come into play.
1.) You have vetrens that have been here since the beginning of time and have actually read each and every post on this site, therefore, not finding the answer to your question by using the search button is an insult to how much time they have spent into contributing to this site. Image a person who took the time to create the 'Prize' list, and a noob comes along asking what car they win at 50%. The Vet put hours upon hours to make the post, and the noob couldn't take 5 minutes to search for the answer.
2.) Not knowing what to type in the search box... I've been a victim of this myself. I have found myself searching high and low for something, all the while, it was right under my nose, but I wasn't typing the correct keywords in the search field.
3.) Lastly, you have the experience (former noob) member that has a chance to make themselves feel better about themselves by belittling a brand new member. This type of ingredients makes for a abusive environment for the new member.
Point being, the search feature is there for a reason, to aid in the delivery of information without bringing up 'old news' that has been discussed to death. If all your looking for is answers, then a year old thread with that information should surfice. If, on the other hand, your looking for feedback, I would say a new thread would definately be in order which would help stimulate current feedback in your thread.
I can't speak for everyone here, but I can tell you that I have recieved a polethera of help with my questions. And I try to return the same kind of service. If I come across a question that I know has been discussed in the past, I will look it up, and will tell the member what 'keywords' to use to find the answer they are looking for.
I'm sorry that you have gotten a sour taste in your mouth from the way that you have been treated, but I do not agree with creating new threads instead of using the search feature.
BTW - Feel free to PM any Moderator for a specific catigory if you have a question. We will be more than happy to give you or show you how to get the information that your looking for.
As Saxo, one of the moderators, says, "The idea was that once the community grows, you ask a question and get an answer as quick as possible. You can say this has been done many times before but the main difference is to get away from the 'egos' and 'flame' responses you get on usenet. Many times a post to a newsgroup will get a response such as RTFM which can be a good solution, it's not really friendly."
