... turn off the engine. Listen to the car stereo... look through the windows, maybe open the side window and just hear the sound of "the world" outside... watch the other cars go by, and just relax for a minute in my car.

Then, radio OFF, turn on the engine, and go.

I would like to do that in GT5 :)

It's a driving simulator... racing is just one of the things you can do with it.

Most people don't understand GT5. That's ok :)

And you want to roll down the windows and listen to the radio.

I guess I don't understand GT

For a minute, yes, as part of the driving experience, just like in real life. That's why GT5 is a simulator, and that's why you don't undertand it. Like I've said, that's perfectly fine...

that's a good idea, after all, that's what happens in real races.

remember that time when ayrton senna pulled over in the middle of the 1989 monaco GP, giving up the win so he could listen to "free bird" on the radio?

:P

You go to your local track or are in a competition or are some professional driver and you just pull to the side and turn on the radio and roll down the window.

Maybe if I am cruising or something but not on a track.

This is despite the fact that the only time you're ever 'in' the car is when you're on a racetrack in GT5?

If we're going for realism, then you'd be getting chewed up by the marshalls, if not killed by other cars.

I recommend that you play Grand Theft Auto or Test Drive, not GT5.

Yea I remember that I wish I could that in my F2010

Your mistake was posting a new thread,
You should have made this request in a thread where people criticise GT's racing experience,
Those threads are full of people claiming its becasue its NOT a racing simulator(despite 99% of the game spent racing) its a driving simulator,
Those guys will be much happier to back you up.:ouch:

I recommend you go buy Flower...

And stop telling us we don't 'GET' GT5.

The day Kaz makes a game where you cruise serenely through the countryside, free roam where YOU feel like it, and can park and watch the pretty birds and flowers, you can tell us what the game is about. Until then, put your helmet on and FLOOR IT!

Amazing how deluded some can make themselves... You drive on a race track, you are there to RACE.

Not really. I've been to several race tracks, had great fun driving, but never raced at all. I don't care for racing, I love driving. That's why I love GT5 (and all before that), the Real Driving Simulator. And this is why, as part of the driving experience (not racing) it would be nice to be able to to the things I mentioned in the first post of this topic. I'm sure they (PD) would make it if they could... they love cars :)

Some people get on a soccer field and play cricket, too... But it doesn't mean that, in a SOCCER game, suggesting that everybody just slow down and play a nice relaxing game of cricket is going to go over very well..!

Driving is the keyword.

He said he wanted to make something like that.

Test Drive is for Driving
GT is for Racing - except when you bust all 4 wheel hubs halfway around Nordschleife and need to get back to the pits, then you drive...

He said he wanted to make something like that.

But he DIDN'T... :dunce: Even Kaz SORT of knows what is seppuku and what isn't (not by much, though)!

Look, you can turn the TV picture off, and just use GT5 as a sort of MP3 player. That DOESN'T make it the 'Ultimate MP3 Player' though... Yes, it CAN be done, but it CERTAINLY isn't what the game creator intended.

People take "the real diving simulator" pretty literally. It is a racing game.

What sets GT5 apart from all other games is that it is a driving simulator intended to give you the most accurate driving experience with the cars and tracks/roads available in the game, as if it was in the "real world". That's the essence of GT, everything else in the game (such as racing, or car collecting, or whatever) is secondary to the fundamental goal of the game. This is what GT is, and all other games are NOT.

This is pretty obvious. GT5 is not a racing game. If it was a racing game it would be a really bad racing game. Instead, it's a great simulator, the best ever made.

Driving can be many things... and there can be many contexts to what we call "driving experience". Obviously PD could not put everything "driving" in the game, it's not possible. But that does not stop me from dreaming about the perfect Driving Simulator (and yes, it would certainly include some racing in it). I'm sure we'll get there some day...

Actually, most hardcore 'sim' drivers say that GT5 is FAR from the most accurate 'driving' simulation out there. Take it up with the iRacing guys.

And once you have lost that imaginary advantage, what is LEFT but a racing game? And, as you said, it's a pretty BAD racing game..!
