Hello guys,

My old "fat" 60GB ps3 died with YLOD, was a pain because i had it since ps3 was available for sail and never saved game in pen, so lost all my data and had to restart GT5 from scratch.:ouch:

Thing is, i play mostly GT5 online, and cars and phisycs were feeling strange just before it died like: noticable drop on FPS that u saw in tipical "slide show" images for like 1/2 seconds, and loosing car control witout warning or reason like u get in lag spikes, ps3 fan working bit overtime causing froze moments when fan started.

I´m not pro driver in gt5 but i´m a fast/consistent one and can surely tell when mistakes are all up to me and nothing else to blame, or something strange is going on.

Got now a slim ps3 and it never happened again, that´s why i´m sharing this because if anyone one feels this i advise you to save game and hope for the best.

Take care all, and good races.

Thank you f1webberfan, you are right it broke my heart
But in the end only me to blame, knew about YLOD and still never saved game, think i was overconfident thinking if i was going to have that issue i would allready and long ago :banghead:...reckon my "fat" wasn´t imortal :dopey:

You can repair YLoD quite easily and copy the game save then...

Tried that like 3 times and only worked for 3/5 seconds not giving time to save.
Last try i guarantee you it will never show YLOD again, and i only used one tool...god i love my sledgehammer :dopey:

Sorry about your PS3 mate, I just got YLOD'd for the second time so no Games at the moment.

In the last few weeks within about 5 minutes of loading a game, GT5 or RDR mostly, my consoles fan was running really loud too, I even bought some headphones to drown out the noise. But it died a few days ago.
Im thinking of getting a slim now though, but I had heard they dont run games as smoothly as the fattys, are you finding yours OK?

Sorry to hijack the thread a bit, I didnt think it was worth starting one.

Nice work with the sledgehammer too:ouch:

Well I work in a games shop and as far as I can tell (from personal experience and from customers opinions) there isn't any visible difference in performance between fat and slim. IMO. With deepest respect to other's personal opinions and wallets.
Although I find the fat a bit more good looking. Hehe.
P.S.: Actually once installed above my TV I barely see my console at all. So why I said that it was good looking when I actually don't bother about that?! :D

Notice no difference whatsoever between "fat" and slim ps3 in terms of performance. Just liked old ps3 more because was better looking and i specialy miss the 4 usb ports.
Find slim probably a bit more silent running in normal conditions, not comparing obviously to near death overworking fan issue that i had.

+1 signing in the YLOD club but i have backups fortunately
time to grab a slim tomorrow but most places seem low on stock of 160gb and a new ps3 model was revealed today....hmmm

I wonder how an Xbox 360 would handle a 24HR endurance race...:sly:

5 seconds to the race ends. "I'm getting there, c'mon! 2mil CR in my bank! Aw Yeah!" Then..... 3 red lights appear. "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! My XBOX!"

That's how i imagine. XBox SUCKS! :)

I might have been the first person on GTP to YLOD from GT5 given that it happened 5 hours after I received my preordered copy from Amazon, so I didn't lose much, but it still sucked. Went straight out the next day and got a slim, I figured that the fat's launch day model status meant that apart from the YLOD, many other components would be worn out and probably due to fail anyway, so the slim's lower power consumption, cooler running and 3-year warranty really appealed to me, if the console itself was ugly. Also there's quite a lot of demand for YLOD 60gb models on Ebay so my slim actually only cost me £175...

Also my 360 is actually alright when it comes to huge Forza 3 sessions, and it's a 2006 Core model! Granted, I did have to repair a RROD once, but it's been fine since then. Then again I'm sure your comments were just lighthearted banter. Surely?
