Strange gear behavior

I raced on Laguna Sega with a Ford GT ('05) and I slammed a wall at high speed. The car only drove backwards after the the big slam. The gears changed from R to N all the time. Now I know it happens when you slam walls at high speed, but this time it took ages to get out of this situation (I'm talking about more than a minute).

This doesn't happen a lot in the game, so I was wondering if this occurs under special conditions. Anyone?

I had a bad crash in the Tommykaira ZZ-II and was stuck in a high gear for a few seconds. It cleared realatively quickly and I was able to still win the race.

I was in the Jaguar XJ2200 LM on Laguana Seca and took the cork screw at full throttle, which needless to say, sent me about 20 feet into the air, and landing me sitting straight at the wall. I tried to reverse and it wouldn't go in gear, it would just jump back n forth between N and R and rev a bit. BAH! :scared:
I just figured I killed the virtual driver sitting inside and restarted the race and everything worked fine again, luckily it was only the second lap though when it happened. :)

I've had this happen to me a few times and I think I know how to fix it. I was racing the 90's Fuji Speedway in my Option 350Z race car, and after the big straight I failed to break sufficiently to get around the corner at the end. I flew off into the sand at high speed and hit the wall straight on at very hard. As you say, the car seems to get stuck in reverse and either accelerating or reversing just sends you slowly backwards. What you need to do is hold down brake (square) until the car comes to a complete standstill. Leave it about a second and then accelerate -the car should begin to move forwards instead of backwards. :)

in the hyundai cup on hong kong, i bounced off a wall and the car was stuck in 4th, couldnt get it to downshift, and couldnt get any acceleration
i just held the brake till it came to a complete stop, and it downshifted

I've had that happen, too. When I was racing at R246 I had a couple of hard wall bangs, nose in. I found that the car would stay at WOT with the tires howling for 10-15 seconds, even though I had no throttle on and full brakes.

also, if you tap the ebrake at high speed, the car wont react to any gear changes, it'll just coast forward. throttle doesnt do anything, either does brakes.

how and why? the crash like that.

you must have braked well over the distance :dunce:

This has never happened to me, but it seems like this is an equivalent to the 5 second penalty in Special Conditions. It's probably PD's alternative to damage for normal races. Luckily, they realized that they couldn't implement this when contacting another car because of the blind (literally) AI, so they just have it occur when you "total" the car. At least that's what I assume.

In my defence, the brakes on the Option 350Z suck even more than on the Ford GT. Also, something I've noticed about GT4 is that just slightly over-running a corner can send you meters into the sand. You don't have to do too much wrong to go into it quite a long way.

I think that is caused by the fact that you put the gearbox on Neutral, even if there is no real neutral in the game it acts like one.

I made the test with my M5 on the Nurb, I was on the straight at 200 Kmh, tap the E brake, and I can Rev the engine like I want until I hit a X RPM which makes the car go back in gear .

Well basicly what you do is you turn off the engine :)
So its not a bug at all, its a way to turn off the engine, didnt you guys play GT3 and experience the beauty of just rolling over the finish line :D
Alltho whenever i push the throttle i get a response ;)
So maybe you have a weird bug... or maybe I have one that enables me to turn the engine back on...

You will have to turn down your Handling aids. I forgot which one but is is one the buttom.

Can anyone tell me how to quote people?
