I keep telling myself that Rules are Rules...
Last night my son wanted to see how the ole phattboy faired in his efforts so we loaded up the replay to watch a little of it.
Here is what I noticed:
When threading the needle (during my first set of passes on the last three AI in the double left after the front two straightaways) what had felt like incidental contact to me from inside the car during the race, actually looks like I tee'ed off on one of the AI when you watch it from the outside in the replay.
When I sucked up on the Clio in preparation for my first effort at passing, he smacked his brakes in an odd spot entering the corner and I gave him an accidental but somewhat "spirited" bump in the heiney. He quickly recovered and my subsequent loss in speed caused a "not passing this time", "catch back up with the Clio for half a lap" situation. None the less... from the outside looking in, it looks bad.
When I saw the opportunity in the sweeping right before the back straight on the 3rd lap to make a pass on the griffith, I took it as he swung wide onto the rumble. I scrubbed him as I slipped alongside. Now in my defense, my subsequent loss of speed allowed an immediate repass by the griffith and it took me nearly a full lap to catch and pass him again. Still...
In addition, while trying to find the fastest line and get in that grove, there are a couple of miscalculations or thumb twitches that resulted in either a wall smack or somewhat liberal use of the rumble areas. In the Stratos, in this race, you so much as touch the wall, YOU pay the price in loss of speed and time. Still...
The point is, I can't honestly say my race was squeaky clean. Based on that and in the spirit of maintaining purity to the sport of OLR, I think I have to disqualify myself from contention in this particular race. I don't think I will find the time to run it again before the deadline.
Although, I would like to hang out to see how it fairs.
I am still having fun!!! and will likely run this again at some point just to make sure I can do it "squeaky".
