So, the G27 has been there for a few years.
Any news yet on a successor from Logitech?

I really like the price of the G27, the other wheels are a bit too expensive for my taste.

I believe Logitech stated that they would continue to support the G27 but would not be make any FFB wheels for the foreseeable future. In other words, don't hold your breath.

That's a shame, I think all the G27 needs to be perfect (at their price point) is an analogue handbrake and a slightly better wheel. The one it has now is great but the plastic parts that the buttons are mounted on feel cheap in my opinion and the buttons are difficult to define by touch alone, you either have to look or distract yourself by feeling them, you can never just learn where they are and press one without thinking about it.

Apart from that I have absolutely no complaints about the wheel, which may explain Logitech's position on the subject I guess. That, and they know a lot of people who buy £250 racing wheels are probably happy to build or modify stuff anyway, so it probably doesn't make enough financial sense to update the range to include what I've suggested. When there's a real need to upgrade them I'm sure they will.

Now I am really starting to think Logitech is having a rough time financially. Especially since they have not really innovated in the last couple of years. Most of their products are just the same with just a new exterior. If in those couple of years they released something new at all.

If you look at wanting to buy the famous Z5500 speakers then you would be disappointed now because it successor the Z906 has a control center that is less capable. They removed the Dolby and DTS decoder chips that were in the Z5500, in favor for their own propriety 3D Sound System. Which was only and first utilized on their first THX set the Z-560 and was called M3D.

So yeah, it seems they are degrading some stuff. Don't update other products where not needed and slowly out phasing them over time. If you look at the game gear page you see just a few products under each category. Which was totally different in the past, where Logitech really had a big line-up of products in all sorts of categories.
Now I mostly see new ventures (when looking at the site) into personal audio and audio equipment for your mobile devices to stream to.

So yeah, much as I hate to say it but I think that (looking at their products to see where Logitech is going) they won't be making anymore steering wheels in the future. Or any game gear for that matter.
To be even more honest, I think that we might see Logitech pull his hands off of the PC market in between now and 5 years time when I look at the PC product innovation.

how so? Their products seem to be everywhere so how could they be doing bad? I myself have keyboard, mouse, and two G27 wheels and love them.

I don't see how they could be doing bad when their products seem to be everywhere..........this is my view and I have by no means have a lot of knowledge on this subject.

Well they just released a new mouse model the G600, but it is a copy of the Razer Naga. Either way it is a new pc product release.

I hope that Logitech can announce the new Logitech G29 very soon because we need a big company like Logitech that makes a cheap steering wheel and makes some sort of concorrence to the med-range market steering wheels like Fanatec and Thrustmaster.
I will wait until Christmas after that i have to make the decision to switch to CSR-Elit after 8years of loyalty to Logitech!

Wrong investments in stock, expensive overhead and too cheaply priced products to pay for them, etc. Even the biggest companies can fall even if their products seem to be everywhere.

I do not know what goes on behind the scenes but the company gives off this vibe to me at least. Time will of course tell.

Like you say "copy of the Razer Naga", meaning they just payed Razer for a license to produce them under their own brand most likely. So it is not their own innovation here at work.

In any case I see there has been some cutting done behind the scenes in the company and decisions on a possible new direction made.
However like they say "do not throw away old shoes before you got new ones".
In other words they clearly seem to keep holding on to the old product line by as little investment needed as they can get away with for the time being.

Today i had to call with the support of logitech here in holland, and the supports man told me a succesor will come sometime soon, they dont have G27's in stock anymore and since i have a litle ploblem with it they told me to ask the store that sold it to me if they still have some left.

You meant the z-560. That didn't even have digital in. In addition the Z906 does support dts and dd. http://www.logitech.com/en-us/product/speaker-system-Z906?crid=47

I've said this before but Logitech is only into mass market products. Even if there were a g27 successor it wouldn't be the substantial improvement you really want. They have just started to sell mechanical keyboards after the rest of the market showed it to be viable. Logitech is not going to lead the charge they will follow the crowd.

Well if this is true, lets hope that Logitech has had a good look at the sim market of today and takes the needs of simracing anno 2013 into account. Namely, load cells, interchangeable wheels and multi purpose shifters for H and sequential shifting. Of course it goes without saying, stronger FFB and a better wiring solution (USB) connections.

We shall see, Cheers, AussieStig:tup:👍

You forget belt driven, true 16-bit resolution and a more realistic, in terms of diameter, rim.

I personally prefer hydraulic over load cell.

What does "sometime soon" actually mean? This year, next year, within 2 years.....?

I do ~hydraulic with load cell on my CSP V2s. 10 times the hydraulic damping as stock in the apply direction. 0 damping in the release direction. Note wire tucking and relocated load cell adjuster (it lives on the pedal lever or up by the wheel).

Interesting... Can this claim be substantiated by anywhere else? All rumors I heard was that Logitec was pulling out of gaming peripherals

Worked for a camera manufacturer and there was no chance in hell support people were kept in the loop regarding upcoming products. Such information is usually restricted to management levels and people who have to know: trainers, marketing, PR.

Might be different at other companies, but there isn't exactly a history of product launches being spilled by support staff in the 'gadgets' industry.

What aspects can logitech really improve without making the wheel as expensive as the competition? TBH I don't see a reason why to buy a potential g29 over fanatec products that are in the same price range.

Also they won't compete with the higher end products of other companies, because they do not in any of what they offer.

Sorry for the late reply. But yeah, meant the Z560.

Also please know that compressed digital audio like DTS and Dolby are worse than a good analog line. For the same reason why vinyl is better than a CD. ;)
Also I heard the Z906 and it sounds worse than my Z560. So not interested. Next up as an upgrade for me are some studio monitors instead.

Anyway, going back on topic. :)
Its great to hear about the arrival of the G29 in May (this year?) if I understood the messages in this topic correctly.
I can't wait to see what Logitech will do. I hope they drop the gears and use something else instead. As well as remove any hardware deadzones.

Any rumors on the specs yet?

It seems like GT6 could be announced within the next few weeks. There is a good chance that they would want another 'official wheel' to go with this new game, and it's likely that either Thrustmaster or Logitech would get it. Perhaps Thrustmaster has a T500 replacement at the ready, which would explain the limited stock and the rarity of any recent production runs. But a G27 replacement could be the GT6 official wheel, despite the fact that the previous G wheels haven't been licensed, and the fact that Logitech supposedly has left the console peripheral business.

They just launched two new Harmony remotes as well, which was a product line they supposedly dumped too. *shrugs*

So yeah, who knows what will happen. I guess they have evaluated the customer feedback and have maybe changed their minds on certain aspects of what is to drop and what is to keep developing.

It's interesting to me that Logitech does not get bashed as much as some other wheel companies seem to be. Imagine the frenzy if Fanatec had a totally new wheel about to come out and it leaked that it launches ready to go in a month. Or maybe they do too? ;-)

Do you ever stop stirring the pot? Seriously, give it a rest already.

Actually, you can both give it a rest please. I say that with all due respect, of which there is quite a healthy amount.

As a Fanatec owner, I would say that Logitech has been of great value as an incredibly reliable mainstay. Fanatec are the risk takers and innovators, and are equally important.

RXX, I would think that people would love it if Fanatec did what you are pointing to.
