I was trying to point out that it would be nice if the thread wasn't sent off course into the Logitech vs. Fanatec
mess it would surely become in which BOTH wheels were being "bashed." That seems to be ALL his comment was meant for. Maybe I'm being a little blunt, but as you can see the thread already started to take that turn.
Anyhow, as for the wheel...
I think it's time they updated. If they've been listening, which they likely have, they know what's working and what is not. They should know what sim racers are looking for as well. To answer LogiForce's question...
One of the keys for them is to keep the wheel affordable. They have filled that niche and will probably continue to do so. Thus, the following is said with that in mind:
What do you guys want in a G29?
- Driven by gear/drivebelt/vbelt/chain/directdrive?
Timing belt. Metal shaft, bearing supported at it's furthest extents. The drive mechanisms and bearing supports should all be metal construction. Dual motors are fine, it's working for them. Each motor should be on it's own drive belt.
- Rim size?
11" to 12" Might need a few more buttons.
- SLI build in?
While it would be cheap to add in some fashion. I think their rev lights are enough, personally. A gear indicator would be nice I suppose.
- Kind of pedals?
Longer pedal arms, heavier springs. The brake should
not use a load cell unless the mechanics of it are well designed and proven to last. A small beam load cell would work but would be unlikely. Rather, they would be better off using a progressing spring/rubber solution and gearing the brake pedal pot to travel appropriately.
- How many buttons?
Slightly more
- What kind of shifter?
Same or similar design. However, stiffer components should be used and wear parts should be looked at closely to reduce the looseness that their current shifters experience over time. Some things should be changed to metal, some should be changed to "plastic" Go back to the G25 design of switching between sequential and gated modes.
- Price range?
$275 - $325 (actual sale price, not msrp)
