Hot News!
As you may have seen, for season 7, the Gran Turismo Japan Auto Federation announced the termination of the ST5 (Pro Front Wheel Drive) class in Super Taikyu.

Sadly, however, JAF officials have announced that at the end of this season, the Super Taikyu Series will call itself history after seven successful years.

The reason for this? Many of the top contenders are on outdated chassis, recycled again from year to year. Examples of this, the Pennzoil GT-Rs were a success in '99, along with some of it's NSX and Supra(Now discontinued counterparts.) The RX-7 LM, though underwent refurbishings in '01 are starting to show signs of age, and the #6 Mitsubishi FTO of the ST2 class was the inaugural series champion in '99, than again champion once more in the ST1 class in 2002 in the Gran Turismo 3 era. These FTO's had also been contenders in the now-defunct GTWC World Cup from as far back as 1997!

However, there is light at the end of the tunnel. Next year will be the unveiling of the N1 World Championship, another four-class series featuring new models such as this year's class 1 Fairlady Z and RX-8 LM cars, to the new-age Mitsubishi Tarmac CZ-R and the Mazda Kusabi.

Also in the works, JAF has announced talks will resume of creating the All-Japan F1 series for late fall 2005. Stay tuned, and good luck to all those competing in Taikyu Season 7!

Now's your chance to get in before the race...i've really put my heart into this for the last few years, I can promise you won't be let down. Please give it a chance, you won't regret it!

#1 Pennzoil Nismo GT-R 498/1128
I see that the series has begun... but if it isn't too late I would like to drive this car please.

Driver: DavidRoy90
# and Car: #1 Pennzoil Nismo GT-R 498/1128
Team: RR Motorsport

Thank you and, again I hope it is not too late!

I need the country you will be representing, yes, you are in, and there is still time to do qualify for round one.

Come and register! Round 2 will be announced shortly. With other series finishing up, now is the time to get in!

I was thinking, for the remainder of the series, or for season 8, we could change over to the following cars:

Class 1: 3 500cc or greater
"Muscle Car"

Ruf RGT HP: -2%
Nissan Skyline GT-R V-Spec II HP: 0%
Ford Mustang SVT Cobra R HP: +8%
Honda NSX Type R HP: 0%
Acura NSX HP: +1%

Class 2: 3 499cc or less
"AWD"

Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VIII MR GSR HP: 0%
Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VII MR GSR HP: 0%
Subaru Imprezza WRX STi Spec C HP: 0%
Subaru Imprezza WRX STi ProDrive Edition HP 0%

Class 3: 3 499cc or less
"2WD"

Mazda RX-7 Bathurst Type R Edition HP: 0%
Nissan Silvia S15 HP: +5%
BMW 330i HP: +1%

Class 4: 2 000cc or less
"Pocket Rockets"

Honda Integra Type R (DC5) HP: +5%
Honda Integra Type R (DC2) HP: +5%
Honda S2000 Type V HP: 0%
Toyota Altezza HP: +2%
Toyota Celica HP: +5%

Once again this is just a sugestion. I was doing some research and thought what cars would be cool to run. Obviously do what you wanna do. Also... which class would be best to run the Mitsubishi CZ-R Tarmac in? I am addicted to that car, it holds the road soooooooo well!

Dave

I've been trying to come up with a system like that for a couple weeks but testing is rathe unsuccessful with street cars. To simulate the real Super Taikyu it would be:

ST1:
RUF RGT
Skyline GT-R

ST2:
Lancer Evo
Subaru WRX

ST3:
Mazda RX-7
Nissan Fairlady Z
BMW M3
Honda NSX
Mazda RX-8

ST4:
Honda S2000
Integra Type-R
Civic Type-R

ST5:
Toyota Altezza
Accord Euro-R
Nissan Primera

It's quite similar to how we ran the classic GT2 series, though we had the racing modification feature which usually led to the real Super Taikyu paint schemes on Japanese cars. However, it's nearly impossible to make these street cars even because adding weight is so sluggish.

I see, as I recall, weren't the paint jobs generally JGTC unless the car didn't compete JGTC? (i.e. the majority of cars) I could work on evening the cars out. Making sure the Ruf doesn't blow the Skyline out of the water etc. I would be up to it. I just thought the current group of cars is slightly far fetched, though they do provide riviting action. Do as you wish. Tell me if there is anything I can do to help out.

Dave

I was just thinking, though it is slightly impractical, we could run the series in GT Mode. This would allow us to use the real cars and tune them to similar specifications. Though this is quite expensive, it would allow for a tad more realism. Comments?

Dave

I've been thinking the same thing as it allows for more combinations and car selection...along with a feeling of customization with wings and rims...perhaps basing it on Power To Weight Ratio somehow.

I'm already on it. Two classes are down, i'm going for the real grid of the Super Taikyu.

So far I have settings complete for (marked with a - )

R-34 GT-R
996 GT-3 (RUF)-
Toyota Supra
NSX Type-R
Opera Fairlady Z-

GC8 WRX STi Sedan-
GDB WRX STi-
Lancer Evo VI-
Lancer Evo VII
Lancer Evo VIII-

Mazda RX-7-
BMW M3-
Prelude Type-S-
S15 Silvia-
NSX-
Mazda RX-8-
Nissan Fairlady Z-

Honda S2000
Celica SS-II
DC5 Type-R
EP3 Type-R
EK4 Type-R

Toyota Altezza
DC5 Type-R
DC2 Type-R
Accord Euro-R
Alfa 156

If you want to work on the last two classes, keep it under 300 HP, that would be great

If you have a max drive, the issue of expensive would fall away. All you need to do is use the "uber save" (Can send it to you) as all cars/tracks etc. are available, as well as trillions of credits. 💡

Lemme know! 👍

Honda S2000
Celica SS-II
DC5 Type-R
EP3 Type-R
EK4 Type-R

Toyota Altezza
DC5 Type-R
DC2 Type-R
Accord Euro-R
Alfa 156
I'll get right on it! GeeTeye, thanks for the post. I myself do not require the extra creds, (i have already found the ubersave 👍 :) :dunce: !) ANYWHO! thanks, im sure some of our competitors will need it.

Dave

**UPDATE**

I am ALMOST finnished the car specs. The 156 is giving me some trouble, but I should have that sorted out soon. I may be forced to set-up the cars differently than what I had first wanted. The "Pocket Rocket" class Toyota Alteza Integra Type R (DC2 and DC5) and Alfa, may be A LOT slower than first intended, it seems the Alfa runs five seconds off the pack at Tsubuka. I may be forced to hold-back on some of the tuning. Because it is the sport compact class, I may just send them out in tuner street form as opposed to the racing form I have them in now. The 2.0L and under class looks pretty good. The cars are pretty equal. Very little time between them. The horsepower ranges from 249-300. Don't worry the cars are still close as weight holds back the 300hp car. They all handle very well (both classes in fact, though Pocket Rocket, does need work) and I expect they COULD be the two most competitive classes out there. May I ask, how much horsepower are the ST1 cars making? I may want to drive a Ruf RGT depending on how I feel the under 2 001cc class goes. I may end up there but, I also like the overall wins.

Dave.

My work is almost complete. I have been testing the bigger hp cars at Fuji Speedway '80's. This happens to be one of my favorite track because it is somewhat reminisant to courses I have run in a GTA car. I will give you my session notes for each of the following cars; Honda S2000, Toyota Celica SS-II, Honda Integra (DC5) Type R, Honda Civic (EP3) Type R, and the Honda Civic (EK4) Type R.

Honda S2000: A Plain-Jane type automobile. Off the shelf pretty good performance, the car seemed to be the quickest out of the box. When the mods were all over and done with, the S2000, in my mind, was once again the "pole sitter" among the cars. It produces the most horsepower, and conversly weighs the most. It is the easieset car to drive, for me, because it has nice weight distribution and as you race you can HEAR the motor and find your shifts and downshifts without keeping an eye on the tachometer. That allows you to concentrate on what is ahead and find the best line into upcoming corners. I happen to prefer the FR cars so this was a nice escape from the majority of cars I tested. Specifically on Fuji Speedway 1980's, I found a PERFECT set-up and was able to rip of stunning laps. I'm gonna give the car an A+, be on the lookout for set-up in the near future.

Toyota Celica SS-II: This was the car to set the pace at Fuji. I put in what I thought was an incredible lap, and felt quite good in a car I thought I wouldn't. The second car I took out was the one listed directly above. Apparently, the lap wasn't so great as I took it by FOUR SECONDS! I went back to the garage and made sure I had selected the right car, I had. Mulling over set-up for a good thirty minutes brought me a nice suspension set up that helped me in the ONE turn I had struggled in, the "tumor" I call it. It is the one on the bottom of the circuit, sending you right back on the 20-30 second run to the start finnish line. Generally it is an easy corner, brake late, attack later and you got it. BUT, the FF cars ALWAYS give me trouble there. So once I got the car dialed in it became more competitive, BUT on a course where power reigns supreme over ANYTHING else, the S2000 took the cake. Again, set-ups will be posted when they are confirmed by GN+, or when the official post for the use of these cars is created. The grade you ask? B.

Honda Integra (DC5) Type R: This car was a watered down, FF version of the S2000. As you may know, the S2000 sits atop the tables in my test sessions and I think, is the superior car overall no matter what. Because this car is a relation of the S2000, I feel I can only say the negatives for the car. In most ways, the way the car is set-up does not suit me. The Factory feel a stiffer suspension is out of the question and trying to get weight distribution in my favor, is a no-go. The car is underpowered, doesn't handle as well, doesn't have the top speed, doesn't brake as well, doesn't make the same noises so you cannot tell where you should be shifting. All-in-all this car is not it's older brother and certainly does not suit my tastes. On the bright-side, for all you FFers there, this car is very competitive with the SS-II, in a season series, the cars will be at a deadlock the entire way. I could see these cars potentially being superior to the S2000 at some tracks but, if there is a track where more than 70% of the time you are on the throttle, I think the S2000 will be defeated by it's stable mates Integra, and the two Civics. As far as a grade goes B, very similar to the Toyota, if I had to choose one car, it would come down to my alliances with the companies, I am not telling you which I would choose.

Honda Civic (EP3) Type R: Heavier than expected the car still performed brilliantly. Excellent weight distribution gave this FF an FR feel. Some FF purists and people that like to feel what they are driving while they are driving, will not like this. For me though, it was "good enough" to fit my tastes and therefore earns a good grade. Power was a factor and therefore the slightly under powered Civic was unable to catch it's big brother S2000. Grade: B+, I enjoyed this car, keep developing it and I may buy one Honda.

Honda Civic (EK4) Type R: The "ghetto" Civic. I always thought this would be a nice platform to tool around with. Some power boosters on top of a displacement up gave this car a nice feel. The EK4 is also the lightest car in the field at 987kg. Because of this I could see this car taking down it's...hmm... "fresher" brothers at some of the twisty tracks. Both FR lovers like me and FF purists will enjoy the feel of this car. A-, purely because of a fun to drive factor making it superior to it's twin Civic and the Integra-Celica sports cars.

I predict this class will be one filled with parody. Every dog WILL have it's day. Each car has as much chance to win as the next. I put a lot of emphasis on powertrain/drivetrain. I really think that FR cars are just better in every way to the FF cars. Though this field is a pretty stout one, MY nod goes to the FR S2000 because it would be easiest for me to adapt to. Cornering stability will be a factor and as the series wears on, the car may wear out, convertables are notorious for poor cornering rigidity and that will cost this car in later rounds. I myseld couldn't pick a winner in this championship, it will be entirely up to the drivers. Good luck to everyone.

Here is my little side note, I put so much opinion into this, one would imagine I was a member of the liberal media. JUST KIDDING, no harm done, eh? Anywho, the preceeding was entirely opinion with a good 25% fact. Any numbers or actual results posted are facts. Also, Fuji Speedway '80's will favor the big HP cars. The track is like 300000000000000% throttle so the big power of the S2000 was favored.

Thanks for reading.

Dave

**Pocket Rocket Update**

That damned Alfa is soooo stubourn. I need to find a way to tone down those PR's so they don't get too racey. I want them to be pocket rocket street racers and that is what they'll be. Unfortunately the Alfa is stuck in a rut and I gotta dig it out.

Grabbing a shovel and muttering a swear,

Dave :sly:

Class 1 is pushing 500 HP, the Z and the RUF are the cars to beat here, just like the real thing.

Class 2 and three are basically the same class, though of course 2 is AWD and 3 is 2WD. Pushing around the 360 HP mark.

So work on that class three, as the S2000 and the DC5 are the two cars to beat.

About the Alfa, there will always be the backmarkers in the class, usually funded by the less-successful teams who run for fun, ala the Prelude in class three.

All Cars will receieve :
All Cars
Rigidity
Racing Brakes
Transmission: FC, TR, RC, 2.
Racing Medium Tires
Wing
Oil Change
Full-Race Suspension

In addition to their power and weight mods.

I sure would like to. But as I understood this was undertaken for season eight. There has been a lot of work, and may require a lot more. I would imagine we COULD run them in Round 2 but, some competitors may be unhappy.

Dave

I'm not sure or not if there will be a round 2, no one seems to be interested other than a few of you, and i'm trying to run a successful series here, it's no fun to have a lot of guys racing in the past seasons, than you take it internationally and no one cares. Season 7 as we know it may be postponed until everything is sorted out.

I may decide to run the series as it is, but there is also this plan in the works, it will most likely be long races, and the schedule will be rather spread out on even dates.

@David, send me the specs for class 4 that you have and we are ready, everything else I have sorted out. A new idea is on the horizon!
