Bloody brakes,

I think i too need to switch to bonnet cam, as its sooooo difficult to follow someone closely when all you can see is Bumper LOL.

Oh and my excuse last night was that a pigeon had flew through my windscreen and blurred my vision FACT!!!

J

:)

I've just noticed this game recently and it sounds quite promising. Can someone sum up this game in a nutshell for me - how does it compare to other games like SCC or GRID?

In particular how does the handling / driving experience line up against games like SCC? For single player, is there a decent length championship mode and for online, is it a stable lag-free experience?

Apologies if this is all spelled out in the thread already and I've missed it. I have the attention span of a gnat sometimes...
Hi FourWheelBrow,

Check this thread out for a comparison of SSV8NC to SCC:https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=126206

The bumper cam is way too low for my liking too. Usually this is my prefered view in driving games, but with SSV8NC, I have to use the bonnet cam. I just find cockpit cam restricts my view too much.

Hi guys
Great racing last night.About the freezing of the game in single player.I've stoped using presets because of it,so the championship on legend will be a hard one.And to hereward,we had some great battles at the end of the races. The 10 lap races tend to favor my audi, since the tyre-wear is less noticble than on some of the other cars.
I still have a hard time at Imola where i'm 3-4 sec behind the pace. And it dosn't help when jizzy uses your car as breaks.LOL

The enthusiasm in this thread persuaded me to buy the game this week and so far so good:tup: The Shifters arvore and addictions to blame for my shrinking bank balance!

👍 Zeeco i'm sure you will like it!

 I just clicked through the menu this morning and although I was signed in, could not find any online games. I then created a match to make sure I was online and waited for about 10 minutes and nothing happened. I find that bizarre. Is that normal?

Er...how can I put this nicely...Saturday mornings are ment to stay in bed
I'm sure that latter on you will find more people online...👍 I'll be there.

Seeing as I've decided Jizzy can be the but of all the jokes this morning.....The reason why you received a "loving touch" would be more to do with your Audi, He drives a rather tricked out S8, I say drive, he's usualy seen in a layby with his police friends or hanging on for dear life LOL He was obviously venting his frustration at your S4 and the fact theres no S8 in the game LOL

Anyway "bloody piegon" dosn't cut it with me, looked more like a finch.

"....and Redgate do you really need those fury dice hanging from your center mirrior?"

Those are just dice ok..... definatley not some sort of sophisticated counter weights to help with braking stability.....

Good racing last night....... opens 'big book' of racing driver excuses.

Aah here we go... my brakes were overheating due to unforseen amotspheric conditions or something.

OK you've no doubtabley, read through the SCC comparison thread posted by stalker, to awnser a few other points. GRID, SCC V's V8....ok think of it somewhere inbetween, by that I mean you have the close racing of GRID but with the handleing more akin to SCC, it's what I think GRID should have been, ie a continuation of the excellent TOCA series. Handeling isn't however as extreem as SCC, but that isn't to say V8 has arcade handeling, far from it, it's just more forgiving than SCC which makes for closer racing especialy online

OK Online, stable, Lag free? oh you better belive it! we've run 14 player races with no issues, usualy open online races see around 10 people in the lobby and barring poor coms with people with low pings everything is very stable.

This leads you to the fact, online, V8 is quite posibley the best game on the PS3 for petrol heads.......yes I said fact!......I did also use the word posibley though LOL But jokeing aside, if it's online racing on the PS3 your after which see's sim physics coupled with close racing only usualy seen in arcade racers then V8 is the DADDY.....well until GT5 apears out of the mist, whenever that may be.

Or "I ran over a penguin and it got tangled in my ofside rear brake calaper......."

Nope, not even sunvisors......hard core all the way! I supose if your learning, stick everything on then start removing stuff one by one with ABS and manual gears the last to come off with. The cars are REALLY muted with these aids on though, a quick tip here though, if your in an online lobby and you see someone with all thaids on, make a note of there name, if the guys in front of you on the start grid beware you don't run in the back of them! off the line the TCS really jumps on the power making a quick start out of the question, I've seen a few people just plain run in the back of them or get in all sorts of bother avoiding them. Oh and also coming out of bends is the best place to take them, again there driving aids slow them up........you still want to use driving aids Zeeco? The aids could be good for when you start out but much more benerficial is doing the section of single player which teaches you to drive, as you go through the "missions" it slowly removes the driving aids automaticly. This said racing online with the aids on dosn't give you a huge disadvantage, in some cases it can even help especialy on a wet track.

Thanks for the info folks, I am now feeling very strongly that this game will soon find its way into my collection.

Interesting also to see some names here that I recognise from racing SCC online - I view this as a good sign for V8 Supercars as well. I don't know if any of you remember me from SCC; my PSN is PhanTomI, but that may be because you don't spend enough time paying attention to that vanishing dot in your rear view mirror...

:scared: I have been practising with all aids off except ABS. The Audi is the only car not spinning out on corner excits (being the 4WD). Maybe just the way I drive. Thank you for the advice Hereward. I will try and be a bit more patient and go back to the pits. BTW can I wear my new Ray Bans on the sunny tracks?

Slow in fast out, you realy have to avoid jumping on the throtle early when exiting the corners or that V8 wil just spit the tail out! You'll start to get a feel for it as you play it more. Last night at mugello? that last turn saw some "the fast and the furious" tail out antics from some of the guys (me included) where you just left the steering neutral and controlled the slide through the 3rd gear 180deg bend simply on the throtle not saying there was a lot of smoke from doing this as your tyres destroyed themselves but getting the backend out of shape on the way in it was quicker to keep the power in than pull out early....especialy with guys up your exhaust pipe chokeing on the tyre smoke LOL

As for the Ray Bans.......I said we don't even use sunvisors (the G25 users don't even use rear view LOL) so Ray Bans would get you a visit from Neil!!!!!:nervous:

Yo, I got a new excuse. It's called Dirt2!

I drove yesterday Dirt2 with some friends. Today when I saw that some of you guys were driving I decided to jump straight in. Not necessary the best idea. First race was Monza, I was in front row and I started braking about 3,5m before the first corner, lol. I had to turn it to go straight through the whole chicane so that I wouldn't hit the cars that were in front of me (those darn BMW's and their strong starts). After that we drove two wet races and my dirt gas leg wasn't quite subtle enough for that :D In the last race I started to get the hang of driving again, but it is sure that if you want to be competitive, don't drive Dirt2!

I've been using bonnet view but I'm starting to think that I should learn to use cockpit view. Today I crashed on people in front of me (sry Redgate) when I was watching which side the car behind me was trying to overtake me. I also drove off the track while looking back. Seems that looking back takes too much skills for me to handle. I guess I have to try working on that in offline, if I could get used to it. But sorry to everyone I blocked/bumped into.

And it's a good one too!!!
I know what you mean Vompatti ,jumping back and foward from one racing game to another can be frustrating sometimes(or interesting depending on the perspective:tup: ).
I also bought DIRT2 ,while waiting for SSV8NC,SCC patch and the forecoming Messiah from PD that the profet KAS preaches that one day will come down to us common mortals and makes us all happy for ever and ever, and despite the americanezed style and looks(no offense intended for our USA fellows) in the enviroments, concept, off road disciplines involved, etc I found it very enjoyable...so maybe we can hook up for some online racing also in this one(pm me if you are interested)...at least it wont be crashing all the time.

I know some guys from the brotherwood will curse me and probably send me a visit from Transylvania:lol: but SSV8NC is beginning to get on my nerves, after quitting my first off line championship due to constant crashing in the end of Portimão 2nd race-defaul settings, preset settings, custom settings I've tried it all(about six times before erasing the saved data) I've begun a new one and for my dispear at qualify at magionne :banghead::banghead::banghead:🤬:boggled::mad: the 🤬 thing crashes again argh!!! I'm beggining to think that my girl works for Milestone or Blackbean!!!!

AGAINx2:mad::confused::odd::banghead: 🤬

@Zeeco

I don't know if your are driving with wheel or controler. I drive with controler and no aids except for the automatic gearbox. I must say that cars are really easy to control if you keep the standard racing/driving rules in mind. Brake befor the corner, slight gas through the corner and at the exit, floor it. Don't brake/turn etc...

When tireweat is selected cars become a bit more difficult but still be gentle, then it it no problem. Faster you get by practicing ;)

The Maserati is very easy to control but not the fastest. The Jag ist the least favourable car for the controler because it is to darn tailhappy. BMW 550i good choice also for the controlerdrivers

GRE-Y-HOUND

Hey Zeeco,

Me personally i always start with all the driving aids off you could mayeb keep Auto trans while you get the feel of it, but this in itself makes it MORE difficult in my opinion,

I find if you start out with no driving aids on then you quickly get used to it, not too mention you can use the manual gears to control the back end....

Some BRILLIANT racing online last night, Redgate your deifnately getting real fast mate, I even got within 3 tenths of Heats lap time on Mugello LOL,

I must say though i hada near perfect lap pushing so hard. I do think that right on the limit you start to notice the difference in the cars.

Certainly as far as the Merc go's its so unforgiving, as in you have zero margin for error in braking or coming out of slow chicanes.

Lat night as some of you saw i got punted sooo badly on some of the races. i hung back on Monza 16 players in the room and just LOL'd as you see all the people going 10mph under penalties :) :)

See you all online soon for some more super close racing...

I profersise there bretherin that the watward souls are starting to depart from the hallowed catacombes of "the open races" May I humbley beg of you all to prey for these souls to quickly pass over to the dark so we can spread the word of JaaaG to the world.

For new iniciates of the bretherin of JaaaaG (you lot) I put it to you in simpler less sarcastic terms, I think were starting to see the "idiots" leave the online open lobbies, this should be the start of the V8 comunity! big races with a mix of regulars and new faces, all there to enjoy the game and drive clean rather than "win at all costs" mentality that can be seen by some of the idiots. This is where the game goes up a gear!

I know what you mean. I never used cockpit view in any game (bumper or bonnet view when bumper is too low) but V8NC forced me to do it because I need rearview mirrors or a button on the wheel to check on who's following.

I think I'm already fast enough with the restricted view provided by cockpit cam. But still this is the only game that makes me use it.

I'm beggining to think that my girl works for Milestone or Blackbean!!!!

Italian girlfriend, arvore? ;)

Hope you're right! 👍

i beg of thee, forsake the false idol that is the JaaaaG. come into the fold of the true idol of SSV8 NC, the Chevrolet CR8!

Hereward doesn't even use the Jaaag, he's like one of them (WWII) Mathilda drivers that wish they had a Tiger in their hands ... so, he uses BMW. :sly:

I'm on my 5th BMW in real life, what can I say, I love there buttons that make warning lights come on in the car which tell you you've pressed the button that could kill you LOL I also love the fact BMW don't tell you what the buttons do either, or have some converluted series of button presses to activate things....you have to be "in the know" or dredge youtube LOL heres an example, and also why I love BMW's

Oh yeah by the time you've pressed all these buttons the will to be recless has usualy passed LOL

LOL see you want an audi, my death buttons are much simpler. No half measures or groovy electronic goodness.

Its either everything on! or EVERYTHING OFF LOL. That includes ABS, TCS, ESP, Launch control the works.

I think it may even turn the heated seats off, (TO BE CONFIRMED) lol

So....... had the freezing isssue again, can confirm this happens in championship mode on Magione when altering settings in the pits. For me the game then freezes when you go back on track, did someone say it froze on the menu screen for them?

@stickler what was the problem with G25 and downshifting last night, got a G27 and it's really good with this game.

THe funny thing about that video is he's missed one, if he'd held the TCS button for five seconds it would have gone into race mode (you get a beep and another warning light comes on with the TCS warning light.....double death) and really took off, though I doubt he'd have stoped at the end of the street as it kills the ABS as well LOL On the subject of Audi's I had one......as you know, and I got as maany inane warning lights and beeps as yours dose LOL Why I need a 4 inch orange empty waterbottle sighn flashing in the center of my dash with acompanying bleeps as if the world is about to end is beyond me!
And back to the game. Didn't get chance to try the S4 but it's my mission this week to brake my BMW cycle, in the game at least LOL Any car which gives me a turbo intercooler with air intakes in the front spoiler and 6 vortex valves in the inlet manifold as standard can stay on my drive for as long as is humanly posible LOL

Seems the freezing bug is soley linked to custom tuning on certain tracks in single player, not heard about a shifting problem with the G25? I do get a brake fail problem with the DFGT (first time you use the brake pedal it occasionaly fails to work) but this is wheel related and has happened to me in most games (I usualy hit it a few times on the start line to clear the issue then it's good from then on)

As of this morning, I have an enigne warnign light on. I fear my spark plugs are making it run too rich.... I have a low washer light which as hereward said is MASSIVE lol and i tyre pressure warning informing me that my nearside rear tyre has dropped more than 5 psi.

Im expecting next week the "you need a haircut" warning light to come on..

its next to the "TOILET NEEDED NOW" warning light.... :) :) :)

Well I'm one of those who'll stand by you in sympathy - there's definetively a bug (with the game, not your girlfriend... I hope... well, women sometimes seem to have a bug... nevermind, back to topic).

This game is killing me. Such a 5-stars AI and the most challenging offline mode is... BUGGED! AAHHH!!
