Yeah, you have to respect those machines; that's where it all started.

I respct your statement that we need to respect those machines cause that's where it all started but i am wondering why that put it in the game? it definately don't help anyone win anything else. I't for you to judge.

Why have it in the game? It is because it is history, and you should be able to learn about cars then and now. This game is about the first racing game where you can race the very first patent automobile. It is in the game so you can play a role in history. The only old-schooler I don't have yet is the Ford Model T. The ONLY way to get it is to clear all Super License tests with Gold (even the ultra-long Nurburgring Nordschleife). I have a feeling that in terms of automobiles older than almost 100 years ago (as of this date, anything older than April 17th, 1905), the Model T seems to be one of the coolest vintage cars, perhaps with great performance even it its time.

To help you appreciate seeing these Daimler machines in the game, let me ask you an alternative question. Why do you think throwback jerseys and retro clothes are making a comeback in current fashion? Times then are different. In much the same way as you're able to compare a Skyline R30 to the R34, same can be said about automobiles past and present. Europe invented the car, and since PD wanted to make GT4 a celebration of the automobile past and present, these two Daimlers have every right to be in this game. Not every machine has to be a speed demon. That can be said about several cars. Let me name a few while I'm at it... Scion xB, Honda Beat, Subaru 360, Fiat 500R, Daihatsu Midget D-Type... just to name a few. I can tell you that every last automobile on Earth wouldn't have been as successful as they are now, had it not been for both of the Daimlers shown in the game. Had the Wright Brothers not invent that first airplane, flight would have been nearly impossible. Then, carbon fiber wouldn't have been used for cars since some planes used carbon fiber. So in other words, don't you want to know how cars used to be? Then win both machines, go into Arcade Mode or do a Practice in Gran Turismo mode and see what it was like then compared to now. Only so few can understand and appreciate what these two Daimlers mean to automobile history.

Good:
Honda NSX-R Concept fully modified+ wing:Handles just wonderful! 👍
Toyota Supra fully modified:You expect to see a 800+ hp road car flying off the track while the Supra is pretty damn good along with the RX-8 and RX-7 👍

Bad:
Mclaren-Mercedes SLR:Most awful sound, braking + handling EVER! :yuck:

Cheers,

Good:
BMW 330i (correct?) the best handling car after suspension tuning almost no understeer can occur to this car.

Tuned Lotus elise the best drifting car for ever

Bad:
BMW M3 GTR the worst braking car i've ever drove

Duckdre
Bad: Hving to get gold in every licemce to get the Ford Model T.
Is this right? Only way to get Model-T is to get all golds? If this is the case, I will never be able to get that car. On the cheat disc(AR), there was "All Gold" option. Does anybody know, if you get all gold that way, if you can still get the Model-T? I kinda doubt it.........

The Good:
M3-tuned nicely, good car; Aston Martin DB9-tuned it and gave it a wing , so i now refer to it as a DBR9; The Shelby cobra, LOT better than it was in GT3; Audi R8-beautiful.
The Bad:
Saleen S7-my favorite car, and PD messed it up...the thing cant stop!!!its acceleration isnt 3.3 sec to 60. maybe a good 4.5, and you can give a mini cooper a wing but not the saleen??? The AI need to learn better moves. Laguna Seca's too green[same with infineon].

Anybody who hasn't driven the MITSUBISHI CZ-3 Tarmac '01 is missing out. It's a great handling little 4WD. The gear changes are instant as if it's an automatic if you know what i mean. It's a real 'giant slayer.' To get it you only have to win the (Easy) Swiss Alps Rallies. It's my favourite car!

good - the buick special. god, i love that car, whups anything :D and nurburgring is an excellent track

bad - the Gt '05 brakes. ugh....slippy slippy. and the cien transmission, i absolutely despise slow shifting, and that shifts slower than a stock cappuchino!

heh i was also one who bought the caterham fireblade and fully tuned it only to find you cant race it

good,
BMW M5 fully tuned is a dream to drive on the 'ring

Bad
the lack of racing modifications to cars i mean it was brilliant buying a crap car such as the honda del sol and fitting it with racing decals and a spoiler :P
the lack of american/euro cars i mean i dont want to have 60+Evo's or Skylines in a game when i can have a few more euro/american cars

the dodge ram laramie can run a 9.984 400m
now thats surprising :sly:

Standard
Good:

1970 240Z, lightweight 1, sports suspension, SS tires, big brakes. Dominated the 70's Japan races with it.

Tacoma X-runner. Bought it for the truck races, and it was a heck of a lot better than I thought it would be.

Bad:

'97 MR2. Got tired of trying to tune the oversteer out of it.

Option 350Z. 800hp, but the immense turbo lag makes the thing pretty much undriveable.

When you're going around Capri, around the two hairpins, my Option Stream Z got stalled 👎 👎 👎 👎 👎 !!! I could not get it moving again!

Ford 429 Hemi
Dude stfu.
How many cylinders do the best cars i nthe world have?
8, 10, or 12.
So shuv it okay!

The Porsche Turbo has countless numbers of articles and quotes saying it is the best or at least among the best. Arguably the best, and using 6-cylinders.

The 962 is arguably the fastest car in the world, both in individual aspects of speed and in track times. It has 6 cyclinders.

The current holder of the Nurb lap record the SR-3 Turbo i do believe uses a hayabusa engine.

I don't think you and me agree on the definition of "best car". I think counting the number of cylinders os largely irrelevant to actual greatness of a car.

And yes the NSX does blow in real life compared to other cars i nthe saem price range!
a 00 Mustang Cobra R, or Z06 vette can trash one very easily!
Seen it happen, I have been to several open track days and seen some nsx's get toasted.

Understand though how protectonist the US government is in economic policies. Do you realise how much tax is placed on imported cars, and how much subsidy US buisness gets in general? The result is your own cars are absurdly cheap in the US (and absurdly expensive everywhere else) in comparison to other cars.

The prices seen in the US are really only useful when comparing two cars you are considering buying FROM the US. Though, it is useless when you want to actually compare the job a company has done in creating a car.

And sorry but 6 cyliners an exotic does not make, unless it has massive turbos, even then it's iffey.....

So I suppose Porsches aren't exotic? I suppose an M3 CSL isn't exotic, and the RB26DETT is a crap engine? Do you see the futility of judging an engine, or indeed a whole car, by the number of cylinders it has?

I was surprised by the '54 Corvette Convertable (I never had much luck with Vettes in the previous GT games). The car turns on a dime. I've used it in numerous races to get close to 200 A-Spec points. Try it on the Ring or Deep Forest.

My SLR McLaren doesn't wanna break. I have to put on the braks half way through the straight for it to start stopping.

I was quite happy with the TVR Cerbera Speed 12, usually its got so much power that it's undriveable, but i was suprised at how good it actually was.

I have probably only driven 10% of the cars in my garage. I was really looking forward to driving My RUF Yellow Bird, but it turned out to be fairly average for me, and same with the Ford GT, the handling wasn't up to scratch.

I'm really trying to find a race or competition whih passes the days by quickly. I've been in day 400 and something for ages as ive ben racing almost every endurance race - i have 7 or so million credits and nothing to spend them on - i want that carbon 787B at day 694!

Just go to for example, power and speed, enter 0-400km then right after it starts, exit. Go back out to where you click on 0-400km again and do it over, voila one day passed.

Good:

Wing Shop: Two Words: Super Cool.

Amuse S2000: My Most Good Lookin' Car.

Photo Mode: I Could Take Pics Of ALL My Cars Here.

Saleen S7: 558 Hp Beast! If Only I Could Replace Its Wing...

Bad:

Benz Damiler Motor Cairage And Benz Pantent Motor Wagon: 1 Hp? I Mean, I Could Travel 10 Minutes In High Speed Ring In These! We All Know What A Mini Cooper Is Good For Now....

They Didn't Put The GT40 Road Car In GT4.

R.I.P. Smokey Mountain North. Probably Make It Back Into GT5.

Cittia Di Aria Isn't In Arcade Mode Single Player. In Arcade Mode Time Trial It Is.

GOOD
HPA Motorsports Stage 2 R32
BMW M3 GTR (wonderful, especially with 500bhp and a whopping wing on the boot)

BAD
BMW M3 (absolutely terrible brakes)
Dodge Viper SRT-10 (again, absolutely terrible brakes)

Teampots
heh i was also one who bought the caterham fireblade and fully tuned it only to find you cant race it
Me too... :grumpy: (only I didn't fully tune it)

Teampots
fitting it with racing decals
How you do that? (putting on decals, I mean) Are decals in the PAL version (I can't see any... :grumpy: )

Jason~Bourne
one more for the bad...the cars you win but cant race? NIKE!!! just why???

That's a real pitty, i bought my GT4 game 2 days ago, and once i got that nike 2022 car from the licence tests i really wanted to try it out in a race, but it's just useless. I also tried to race it against a friend of mine, but no, even that is impossible!! To bad because it looks so futurama with that cool design, the short rear axel looks a bit strange, but i can get used to it. The tires look magnificent! a real real pitty ...

Good: Subaru WRX STi Spec C on the 'Ring.

Bad: Special Conditions Hall. What's up with the 'dog on linoleum' handling of the rally cars?

also: What were you people expecting out of the Option Stream Z? It's a topspeed car, first and foremost. Of course there'll be lag!

also: I think the Ford GT's brakes are entirely adequate, it's just that the gears are really widely spaced, so it throws you off during braking when you're expecting a babillion downshifts. With a racing gearbox, the gears are closer and you get that effect back. That's just my opinion though, after reading thousands (it seems) of posts on here and taking it out for a spin to gauge this errant behavior.

CARLOVER, you may not like the Benz Patent Motor Wagen and the Motor Carriage, they may be slow, but that's not the point, you dig? There were no muscle cars or anything like that. Yeah, they're slow. Yeah, you can probably run faster than these machines. It doesn't mean you have to hate them. In fact, they shouldn't even be surprise cars. The thing that surprises me about these cars is that... well, I'll say it like this. If those two cars from 1886 could talk, I bet they would be blown away by how far the automobile has come since these two machines. How are you going to APPRECIATE automobiles without giving at least a fraction of respect to either or both cars? I guess a Subaru 360 is a much better car even though its acceleration from 0-60 is about... 10 or 15 seconds, right? So quit knocking these two 19th Century cars.

I would like to nominate both Audi DTM race cars as surprise cars. I didn't think these cars would be on the same pace with high-powered JGTC machinery. I never raced against any JGTC cars with it, but here's a time comparison based on two different one-lap sessions at Tokyo R246.

-Tokyo R246 Normal: Factors: TCS Only, Racing Medium tires-
Abt Audi TT-R Touring Car 2002 = 1:37.299
Toyota WOODONE Tom's Supra (JGTC) 2003 = 1:38.720

For the ultimate challenge, I'd like to see GT500 machinery at the Nurburgring 24 Hour race take on the DTM machinery. Should make for a heck of a 24 hour race in Green Hell!

good: The handling of most cars

Bad: mustang gt 2005. 14.70s in the quater mile? come on!! Stock Ford GT is disapointing too. especialy considering its n the cover and title screen... :yuck:

Another surprise car pick is the Blitz ER34 D1GP Car. I never thought this car would handle so well as a drift car. At first, I thought this was just an R34 Skyline without the adjustable rear wing. What it is, though, is powerful and so controllable in drifting. I had the TCS on and Soft tires when El Capitan was my test course. It's perhaps the best drift car I've raced so far. The HKS Genki Silvia is more like a race car than a drift car. While that Silvia is D1GP car itself, it's a bit tougher to manuver when sideways. Inducing drift with the settings I've used can be rather tough. I turned off TCS, and the car will be racing like it's on ice.

So if you want a car to have fun with sideways, make it the Blitz ER34 D1GP. If you love tuner cars, I just learned this while testing this car at George V Paris. Did you know what this machine features neon lighting? Say what you want about neons on cars, but the neons don't look too bad on this one. Take it to a race with lights on (for example, Circuit de la Sarthe, Hong Kong, George V Paris, etc.) and judge them for yourself.

best surprise car for me was the 98 lotus esprit v8 gt i found in the late 90's lot.
needed something to do the british gt in and this was half the price of a new one.
it was about 35 hp down so put a stage 2 exhaust to get it back up to 340hp and a set of soft sports tyres. the thing really handled well.
it was about 20 kmh down on the other cars in a straight line but by pre qualifying you could usually put them behind you in the corners and the bonus was that in this configuration each race was 180 + a-spec points. 👍

Well, I agree that the Crossfire was a lot of fun to drive, and it was completely unexpected, which makes it even better. But my favourite, most pleasant surprise, was the Lotus Europa. Mod it up completely, and slap a wing on it to have the most fun of your life.

I HATED the Cizetta. I was so excited to win that car and when I took it out for a test drive I was absolutely disgusted. No way that car handles this bad in real life.
