couldnt really find what i was looking for,

i just wondered how to setup the surround sound in GT5: P

i have a DVD player that has surround sound but i can also change it to 'TV' mode which takes sound coming from the TV.

if i set it to this i cant hear the rears.

its connected this way

PS3 > HDMI cable > TV

TV > SCART > DVD Player set on surround mode..

i have a 5.1 creative setup for the PC, and that just uses 3.5mm jack does that help?

i cant see no audio output direct from PS3

Hi,

You need to assign the optical audio output under the Audio settings preferences in the PS3 menu and allow multichannel streams. Can’t be done on the fly so you will need to quit the game.

You will also need the appropriate decoder with optical input.

does the ps3 support optical out?

ive just found it,

so all i need is a dvd player with optical input and the lead..

would it work optical output from ps3 to tv, then tv scart to dvd player?

just had a look and my DVD player doesnt have optical.. oh dear.. im gunn ahev to get one now..

any reccomendations?

yea you could but the dvd doesnt have optical..

it does however have co-axial . so can i get a optical to co-axial lead?

Just a little caution here. To my knowledge, dvd players digital audio connections are for output purpose only. Make sure you can access a multichannel decoder input.

well i have the TV going to AUX on the DVD player so i assume that it will work.

I think i have what i need.

L67BA optical Lead - £9.99

I’m afraid this set-up won’t work.

Unfortunately, this is an analogue audio y splitter. It will not help you.

You need a digital input (single coax and or optical). Make sure your AUX input isn't stereo analogue only (red and white cinch).

looking at it i would say that it is red and white on the back.

would i be better doing this instead of that lead?

Optical to converter as above then..

to aux on DVD player
(on dvd player it says 'Audio In' with red and white phono female connections)

Since it lacks adequate analogue outputs, getting 5.1 multichannel out of the PS3 can only be achieved via:

1- HDMI connection to HDMI Home Theater amplifiers or decoders
2- Optical output.

There is no cable I can think of that will transform digital 5.1 audio (provided by the optical output on the Playstation) into analogue 5.1 audio.

You could get 2 channels analogue audio output if you select the “AV connector” setting, but that will disable the HDMI connection.

Sorry to say, but unless your Logitech speaker kit has a Digital Input and 5.1 multichannel decoder you want be able to get it.

As an alternative, you could check the back of your TV set for a stereo analogue output and hook it to your analogue AUX input.

i think im just going to buy a new home cinema system that has 5.1, optical input and a dvd player

any reccomendations?

Buy a separate home theater amplifier instead of those so called home theater systems, that way you can upgrade the system piece by piece.

Where do you need the DVD player for, you got PS3 what scales the dvd's better than most of those integrated systems

I recently got a Logitech Z-5500, Would reccomend it. Plenty enough for gaming, COD4 and Drakes fortune sound great, along with GT5P, and Blu-rays and DVD'd sound great in DD too. 👍

+1

Sometimes, a well mastered DVD upscaled trough the PS3 makes me wonder what an average Bluray title adds.

As for recommendations, there are way to many factors in line: wallet,wife,neighbours...

Maybe you could check the GTP Electronics and Home theatre threads for better advice.

Hi, all I can offer you is that the PS3 is a damn good DVD player, going on money, value, sound, looks and all the technical bla bla, LOGITECH Z5500. Makes your ears bleed and gives you goose bumps like golf balls lol. And neighbour friendly on the low volume side. But when the neighbours are out, CRANK IT UP they'll hear it in the next village. :nervous: :) 👍 👍 :)

Stopped reading after about half way down...

Just plug the PS3's optical right into your 5.1 surround unit, and turn your TV speakers off. Your PS3 should be putting out an optical output on defualt, but if not, just go to your PS3's system settings and turn it on in the sound/speakers setting. Then just turn your Surround Sound system to optical in, and TV on HDMI.

PM me if you want this fixed quickly and correctly.

Use an HDMI cable to hook up your PS3 to the TV. That takes care of the video.
For Audio, have have at least one option. Use an optical digital cable (this carries audio only) from your PS3 and connect to your 5.1 sound system.
HDMI also carries digital audio signals.
So, your second audio option is let HDMI cable take video AND audio to the TV, then, use optical digital cable to connect optical output from TV to optical input on surround sound system... no worries?

ps: forget about the dvd player, its not involved in setting up your PS3.

Okay kwl thanks for explaining :) so would HDMI Audio & Video be best i would imagine? gunna pop to shop tomorrow to buy an Optical Digital Cable, How does the TV or PS3 Detect the Cable? cheers again ;)

Last week, I bought a Home Cinema System from Sony (AV Receiver with 3 HDMI-in, 1 HDMI-out) I had to buy 2 additional HDMI cables, 'cause those seems to be never included in a package.. But then, I was ready to hook the system up:

PS3 via HDMI into AV Receiver
DVD Player (Toshiba Codefree with 1080p upscaling) via HDMI to AV Receiver

AV-Receiver via HDMI to TV

In my opinion, this is the easiest way to set up a Home Cinema System because only one kind of cable is used (HDMI)
