Survey: single most effective modification to a car

Maven
I'd say weight reduction is one of the first modifications for me, at least the first two levels. Tires are important but often too expensive (I don't like to rack up huge amounts of money). Next would be the racing chip for extra power, although I have no idea why you would be able to buy one for cars that don't have computers!!! So I don't.

I have never, and never will, use NOS.

never use a NOS you say, it could substituts for other mods if you like a challenge.
for examplae, entereing a hard challege with a slightly underpowered car, use NOS to push you through a bit then skill through turns. its an interesting combo but this will arise a lot of comment and i can't be bothered.

The single most important factor, I think, is the suspension........all aspects of it.
From lowering ride height to hardening the springs and distributing the shock bound and rebound evenly. The camper is vital to tire grip when turning (doesn't matter how fast you can go, if you can't corner then you DONE LOST!!).

Try racing on the Nurbergring with a fast car and untweaked suspension..................you be bouncing all over the pavement and hitting the guardrails left and right (then you'll find the slower cars a minute a head of you before the race even started)!!

for the cost and the overall effect, NOS def takes it

yeah other mods help tremendously, but NOS is the single easiest to use way of dramatically mod'ing a car

period

hehe

Im gonna go with Suspension. Sure Weight reduction may help you accelerate quicker, but when it comes to turns, weight shifting, body roll and Tyre wear, I think suspension may pay of in the long run.
Also NOS is good if you wanna be more competitive with a slightly underpowered car, but if your car handles like a dog, your still gonna lose time in the technoical parts of a track.
Id be interested to see some testing done on this just to see what mod would be to most beneficial. Although the problem with this would be that some cars would repond better to some mods than others.

Tires are only the best upgrade for fast cars that aren't race cars, since the real race cars already come with decent tires.

If you're going to make such a generalization I think you'd have to say a turbo kit is the best upgrade across the board. It's not a very exciting or clever answer, but a turbo kit usually gets the job done. You'll find more cases with a turbo than with any other upgrade where you can say, "X car couldn't win X race without a turbo, and now it can." Think of the number of events a Miata can win with a Stage 1 vs. without -- it doubles the horsepower.

That said, I don't even really like buying a turbo kit. I'd much rather use a faster car that I can run closer to stock.
Tires--I totally agree. You have to be at a certain perf level for them to be the BEST possible upgrade.

And you have a pretty good point about the turbo, too. A stage 1 engine upgrade (turbo or NA to a slightly lesser extent) would probably reduce lap times more than either tires or weight reduction. This thread could get pretty interesting if some of us start doing experiments. I've got a pair of twin, undriven DB9's I can test. Heavy enough to give good results with lightening, fast enough to give good results with tires, and strong enough to to make a real difference with an engine upgrade. Problem is, I'm not terribly consistent yet with the new physics and alterations to the tracks. But that's definitly an experiment I'll be trying over the weekend.

Wow, I can't even imagine using N2/N3 for racing. I would see myself spinning out so many times...

You must have some pretty good skill to use those tires for all your cars

Actually I don't... :guilty: I just want the game to be as realistic as possible. I would like to point out though, that when I use race cars that come with R3 tires (slicks) I keep the tires. Other than that, all of the series production cars (and the few concepts) that are in my garage have N1-N2-N3 tires.

I couldnt help but wonder what the single most cost effective modification to a car in GT4 could be. I'm afraid to say it, but I think its the nitrous. its cheap, and if you turn it up all the way, you can get some serious acceleration. moreover, it doesnt increase your weight or your horsepower, so your car handles just as well, and you dont take the A-spec points hit
whaddya think?

I agree, NOS is the single most effective modification to a car in GT4, but for a different reason.

I equip ALL my cars with NOS, and then i promptly don't use it.
I save it for the proverbial 'rainy day'. Anyone guessed what i'm leading up to yet?
Well, i save it for when the AI drivers hit me and give me a time penalty.
I absolutely don't use it until then, but once the AI has done it's boringly usual 'Michael Schumacher' tactics, then i'm 'NOSing' the straights all the way to the finish.

M.Schumacher tactics = 'If i can't win, then i'll hit you and take you out if i can, but only if you can threaten my championship, otherwise i'll pretend to be sportsman.'

GT4 AI thinks it's M.Schumacher, kind of!

Weight reduction is my vote. It affects three areas with one mod. Your acceleration increases, your cornering ability increases and your braking distance decreases. Oh yes there is a fourth area in tire wear reduction.

The first and second stage are pretty cheap too! Best value per performance upgrade. This generally stands in real life. 1000 horse power is uselsess if it's in a tank. It doesn't run out like Nitrous either.

You mean Juan Pablo Montoya De La Verga Syphilidada does that and Paul(rabbit teeth still sucks thumb amongst other things)Tracy in CART!👎
I stopped watching CART because of that 🤬 as*h*le 👎

yeah those tyres remind me of the sim tyres on gt3 used with a lotus motorspot.... it was nuts

hey love the signiture about the marketing, made me laugh alot...

I'm sorry to here that,

i thought that 'Schumacher-itis' was only in F1, but now it's spread, that's a real shame.

PS Don't get me wrong i love Ferrari as much as the next guy, i just don't like M.Schumachers attitude.

Back on topic:

Other than the all important NOS, i think that the 'Fully Customisable Suspension' is the next most important car modification as it will help even the heaviest and most underpowered car handle somewhat better.

oil change.

nothing boosts the power as much for a handful of change.

Agreed. 👍

Their are so many different ways you can approach the original question, but I'd have to agree that the oil change is your best bang for the buck.
If we want to speak in terms of money, an oil change is the best mod. It will increase your power by 5% for only $50.
For example, on a 200HP car, you will gain 10 HP for 50 credits. That's 5 credits per Horsepower. No other mod can even come close to that credit per horsepower figure.

Now if we want to talk mods for making faster lap times instead of money spent, then it definately has to be the tires, period. Tires are your only connection to the road and everything about a car depends on the tires.

i think that finalizes the question.......

Kind of a hard one , it all depends on the car though. But I would have to say Racing suspension for cars like the ford GT , and LSD for the 04 ? Vette

:)

Gotta love this site

Better tyres all the way. More grip means well more grip, and less braking distance ;)
