What is the rule for the 'green' strip outside the rumble? I have a pretty fast lap in a new car, but on the turn just before t1 I'm 2 wheels on green and 2 on grass......

yea, i was chasing the u high 2'02 , took me a long time to get that lap in. im proud of the nsx n2 tyre lap, that took me a while.

I rarely go to the first page when I want to upload a time. I'll usually quote someone in the last page and use his/her code instead. Yesterday I tried quoting GTPro's post and all that coding came up... I just hit back and quoted someone else.

My guess is that it comes from the use of bold lettering. Although you'd at best ask a mod.

Should a tag for TSC be added, and should ASM be ban to make the driving more real?
Here was the idea given to me for the TSC tag-

In the leaderboard the tire would be removed to look like this-

So what does everyone think? If you think it's a good idea I will update the leaderboard to show it.

I think it's a great idea. As long as we don't make a big fuss about it. Just put the tag if you used TCS, if not it should remain as it is.

So if you used TCS, it would look like so:

1'50.000 - AngelCreator - Mazda 787B '91 - TCS ON

And if you didn't:

1'50.000 - AngelCreator - Mazda 787B '91

Regarding ASM; I agree that most people don't use it. And even if they did, it would probably slow them down a lot. So whether it's banned from the challenge or not remains indifferent to me, but what I'd like to see is that we clarify it so there's no further doubt.
 
yea, i say put the tcs tag in, i think u should also put what controller u use, dfp, ds2, or other wheels etc. would kinda show the diff in everyones times a bit better maybe.

can someone explain what asm does for you??? i dont use it but i dont really know what it does. cheers
 
Well, not the wheels, since depending on the car you can use R3 (for race cars) and S2 or N2 (for road cars), whereas it's very obvious which one you did use according to the times... and you also keep a saved replay, which says what kinds of tyres you're using. Basically, if you're using any other tyres other than the ones specified, your times will not be valid.

ASM=Active Stability Management (thanks alrivers!)... I think, or at least something to that effect. It helps the car avoid oversteering and/or understeering, through braking the car in determined wheels. So if you're driving something like a RUF Yellowbird, it'll pretty much feel like it's on rails... but it also makes the car a bit unpredictable, since you sometimes rely (or at least I do) on the back end sliding to take me faster through curves.

I'm sure someone else can provide a better explanation if this one makes little sense.

Personally, I think all that woud make it too complicated... like

The coding is immense, making it a hassle to classify and ultimately, for James to quote/post. This same thing happened when we suggested the TCS tag in the Nurb Challenge and because people suggested so many add-ons, the whole idea got scrapped. I'm hoping only the TCS tags get attached, since the rest of them (controller and transmission) don't really give an advantage or disadvantage, whereas driving aids do.
 
cool, get what u mean, but i would think that manual transmission would make a little bit of a difference.
 
Damn, we're posting a lot... Although I prefer MT and I haven't been able to drive AT on GT4 (tried it at the UKGTP and I sucked!), the times given when someone drives AT well vs. someone who drives MT well aren't that different.

I used to think the same about DS2 vs. DFP, but the fact remains, if you're good with one and are used to it, uou can even be faster than the other one, regardless.

Did that make sense? I'm reading it and it doesn't make much, but then again, it's 10am and I haven't had my coffee.
 
funny thing...i actually drove the M5 again in both manual and auto modes. I did .2xx seconds better with the automatic transmission*shrugs* anywho, I only have a DS2 controller so thats wut i use, i still prefer MT vs AT, and i dont use driver aids because then, in most cars, i can use the power to steer the car vs. an electronic assist program. Oh, and btw, TCS=Traction Control System and ASM=Active Stability Management. TCS stops wheelspin and ASM works together with the ABS system to keep you from getting sideways or understeering. :sly:

er... James? My time for the Nike One appears twice in the leaderboard. Once before and once after the update... I'm not sure if I typed updated next to it when I reposted it, so that may be the reason.
 
I agree with Diego. Too much coding. I like the idea of TCS but the rest might be rubbish. And yes ASM is just there to slow you down. Think on it, it applies the brakes to keep you in your line of travel. I would rather apply the brakes when I see fit merely in order to scrub off speed or to get the rear to come 'round. This challenge is fun, but the paperwork is threatening to kill it!
