I used the Escudo to get money to buy FUN cars and tune them, the Escudo is only useful to BUY FUN

The Escudo is a beast, it's a mandatory buy just for the sake of experiencing it. Like the x2010 in GT5 a bit, it has to be experienced.

Is it fun? I think not, for the same reason that the x2010 is no fun, because when you race in it you get way ahead of everyone else and are basically on your own on the track. And driving on your own is no fun in the long run...

Another sidenote is that the other Suzuki beast (whatever it's called) is all forgotten about because it is outshined by the Escudo. I think it's a shame, I liked it better than the Escudo.

Sure the Escudo rules but I don't see much need for it. All you need it for really are those two Pikes Peak events and perhaps some other rally events lesser drivers can't do. But even then the Cultus is efficient to race at Pikes Peak and other rallies are doable in other cars. So there's really little or no need for it. Want a real challenge? Try the Speed 12 or something. Sure it's a handful (make that a dozen handfuls, lol) and it's quite hard to tune, but pros will prosper. So overall, the Escudo is best left in the n00b pile.

It's a Suzuki Swift.

Trying to correct someone who is right with the wrong answer? No.
The Suzuki Escudo is a heavily-modified small SUV, (more so like the Mitsubishi Pajero), called the Suzuki Vitara, which is exactly the same as a Suzuki Samurai.
In other news, the Suzuki Swift is also the Geo Metro, and it's known in Japan as the Cultus. Thus, the genealogy falls into place: First, Suzuki modified the Cultus to race in Pikes Peak in the late 80's - early 90's, then got bored and shoved Viagra up the Suzuki Vitara's (insert synonym for Exhaust Pipe in humans), put some Extenze, and made what is known now as the Suzuki Escudo Pikes Peak Race Car. :nervous:

Go play the original Colin McRae Rally DIRT,get a "Pikes Peak Unlimited" class car and go drive it.
You'll notice it accelerates just as fast as a PP-cultus in GT2
But,however, with the original gear ratio it won't have the same max speed as the PP-cultus in GT2
So i'll say the two Suzuki Pikes-Beasts would be more realistic if they had a top speed of 270km/h,and non-unlimited grip

The "unlimited" grip could be attributed to the fact you never reach the full potential of the Escudo's tires.

it has suction effect from certain speed (depends on downforce setting)

As a veteran hybrid builder, I feel qualified to say this: The Escudo does not have unlimited grip. It simply has some of the best super soft tires in the game. Claiming it has unlimited grip shows a surprising lack of knowledge about the way cars work in GT2 at the very least. A car with 'unlimited' grip behaves very differently from the Escudo. It's easy to get it to slide, just go fast and turn too sharply and off you go, same as any other car. It just takes a little more effort to do it than most. Keep the regular tires on it instead of the best ones and you'll see. If you can't get the Escudo to break loose, you're just not trying hard enough.

But then again, it's a purpose-built 4wd 900 hp hillclimbing car designed to get a lot of power down reliably, what did you expect?

And yes, I realize the post I'm quoting is over a month old.

Yeah, there's no race which requires an Escudo besides perhaps Pikes Peak uphill for those who can't do it with the Cultus or some other lesser car (a few can do it.) But, as a challenge, it can be fun to see what it can do.

I think the only good thing the Pikes Peak is just for Pikes Peak. I thing alot of the oldtimers willm agree with me.:)

Yes. If you want to use it as overkill, that's up to you.

If you want an honest challenge, use something else.

I use it to make money on the Gran Turismo All Stars: RedRock Valley race, but that's it. I don't use for anything else other than breaking out of tracks

Nine years later since this thread started, but I still reckon this car is worth it. The look of the machine alone

Evil, hehe.

A fond memory of mine is using the Escudo to finish the Rome 2 hour race in under two hours, because the game finished after 99 laps.

Overall the Escudo is a great car but kinda boring if you dont want any competition like the GT500 races, Tuned No.1 Turbo races, and other events that has free hp. But there is only one good way about the Escudo
-If you're in a rush on completing enduro events especially the Rome 2hr Endurance, 100m Laguna Seca Enduro, then the Escudo is best option.
Note:
I stopped using the Escudo and I fell in love in these two race cars: Venturi Atlantique 600GT LM and Dodge Viper GTS-R Team Oreca.

The problems with the Escudo is that it lacks top speed and the low-end grunt. It could have become a better car if it weren't for these 2.

Oh man, the Escudo is one powerful beast. The undisputed king of acceleration and power in Gran Turismo 2 and 3.

Gotta agree with Xenn though. It does make the game a lot easier. If there's any flaw outside of that, I'd have to say that it looks absolutely ridiculous, and not in a good way. Haha.

I personally prefer the Cultus purely based on its aesthetics. While not as powerful, it still boasts an impressive amount that won't make the game too easy. I totally dig that mid-90s, light purple and blue color scheme with white wheels.

I wonder how the Escudo is on the Event Generator? Do you race 5 other Escudos every time? Or do you get some Cultuses with a 20% power boost or whatever as well?

Also, just by measure outside dimensions (length, width, height) and cubing it, the Escudo is actually the largest car in the game.

And, glad somebody else is still enjoying this game as much as I do!

I tried beating the main races of the game using only prize cars, but unfortunately the race against the Escudo and Cultus were the only races that stood in my way. Tried my best rallying cars, but none of them stood a chance, so I had to accept defeat and buy an Escudo in order to beat those challenges. Oh well.

Just tried the Escudo on the Expert level of the Event Generator. The following cars appeared in the grid:

Mine's Lancer Evolution V
TRD3000GT
Mine's R34 Skyline GT-R
Impreza WRX STi Ver.VI
Impreza 22B Sti Version '98

No Escudo or Cultus in sight, I'm afraid.

To me the Suzuki Escudo Pikes Peak Version is the mother of all race cars, it has great grip for take off, if you spin out you can get back up to speed in no time, and if you run a track long enough to know it like the back of you hand, then in my opinion no one can catch you. Also if you take it on the test track, last time i ran mine i topped out at about 205, give or take. So for the price yea its worth it.

I never bothered with Escudo. Even as a preteen/early teenager I just wasnt interested. Total noob-wagon and still is (besides the x2010 and Veyron). I appreciate it as an impressive piece of machinery and thats it.

good when used to grind some cash. but i actually prefer my Trueno more than the Escudo. (noob-drifter alert)
