Syntax's Gallery - Updated 09/08/2011 some boring couples shots... no cars here :(

oh man, really nice! I'd have liked the first three a lot more if they were shot from a lower angle thus showing the sky and all the elements of the ground such as the trees and stuff were lower in the frame, because they are a bit distracting, even with the massive DOF wich does wonders for getting the crosser to pop out.

The last one is just amazing, as someone else said, if the first bike was shown completely, it would be a total smack. Very nice post, too!

Thanks for the feedback Cano, I agree I should have paid a little more attention to the background, the second shot especially feels a little too busy for my liking.

Anyway while at Bathurst I took a little "self-portrait" of sorts...

Well here are some shots of the car club that I cruised with to Bathurst over the weekend. As I mentioned before, I never got to do the rig shot I was planning on doing up at the mountain so I was a little disappointed, and I think it shows a little through these shots as I feel like I didn’t have my heart in it. These are certainly not even close to being anywhere near what I would consider decent. I thought I would share them anyway.

The Mazda 6 shot is pretty darn good, and the car rocks, too. But indeed, these all look kinda the same... and too overcooked for my liking.

The second last one is great - the rest are decent. Your "not even close to decent" shots 🤬 all over my "yeah, that turned out alright" shots.

Thanks for the feedback Cano. I didn't really do too much pp on these shots, they didn’t really inspire me all that much. I think the combination on circular polarizer and sunny day contributed to an overly vibrant bunch of images.

Thanks mate, personally I think your shots are good. Anyway I hope to redeem myself this weekend at the Festival of Speed at Oran Park….

This shot is really nice. My favourite out of this set.

Cheers dude. Funnily enough that was just mean to be a candid shot of one of my wife’s relos that came along for the drive. I tend to agree that it was one of the better shots of the day.

So... I attended the Festival of Sports Cars at Oran Park on Saturday. It was a nice day out and lots of fun. This is just a very small portion of the shots from the day....

Started out by getting there way too early and sitting in my car as it was far too cold outside... anyway I was playing around with some fill flash.... I thought this was amusing, me looking at my camera a little too intensely...

Caught a decent sequence of the Mini taking a short cut through the corner after a massive oversteer and managing a truly spectacular recovery however the drama of it didn't translate as well into a photo

Oh man this last set is much better! awesome cars too. I really like the one above the Alfa out of the track, the depth of field is awesome. Really nice post too. And eff you and your big-ass lens ¬¬.

Cars #13 and #171 are the best captures. They've got the makings of really good motorsport photography: direction, motion, and a lack of distractions. What would they look like with a little red taken out of the grass? The shots are overall really warm...

These shots are among the best I've seen on this forum.

I like the one of #21 and #61 going into the corner, and the angle of the #171 car.

The one that really stood out for me though, was the #181 Mini. The angle is great, as is the lighting - and I think it captures the fury with which it was most likely diven with.
You can even see the goofy smile of the driver's face:D.

Haha Thanks dude. 👍

Cheers, for some reason, I tend to pp my shots a little on the warm side for some reason, don't know why really. I'll give it a squiz a little later removing some of the red. Thanks for the advice.

Haha I bet he was happy, when he came over the crest off the grass, he was originally headed to crash straight into the barrier right in front of me but somehow manged to hook the car left hard and save himself. It was really quite an impressive site.

In the 6th picture, the car looks like a toy.
They are all great 👍

Thanks, appreciate the feedback.

I was just going through some more of the shots from last weekend, here are a few more of my favorites from the day.

43 and 707 look like they are having an intense battle on the track. My favorite of the series is the side-by-side of 43 and 717, though I'm not sure if they are disputing the position or one is letting the other pass.

Cheers, 43 definitely out classed 717. They both took the inside line at the turn (with 717 in front at that stage), but 43 just powered past as they came out of the corner. Caught that shot as they where neck & neck.

The 43 & 707 battle was good though, there was a fair bit of toing and froing. Good stuff to watch really 👍

#3 pic is well exposed, as compared to #1 which is alll blown out. If it had good light it would be killer. The BW shot is intense with that much contrast!

How have I missed this!

I like the choice of focal point in the last shot, when I imagine it being on the car I can see too many distractions in the foreground and background but focusing on the tyre wall works much better!

My favourite shot though has to be the 3rd, nice angle and colours 👍

Thanks Cano & SweetshopUnion, appreciate the feedback.

Seems like I've missed a lot of activity on this sub forum over the week, a fair few threads to get through and catch up and comment on. I'll try and do that over the next few days.

Anyway, I just got back from a week long vacation in New Zealand's North Island, specifically the region around Wellington. New Zealand must be one of the most scenic countries in the world... seriously it's just so damn beautiful. I apologize for the ridiculous amount of photos but this is just an extremely small portion of all the photos I took.

Our little hire car on a crazy but fun road... I think it was the SH2 motorway... wicked drive but damn dangerous...

I love all these shots but my favourite is definitely that fence! The way it's framed, the colours, the detail. I'm going to need the worlds strongest man to pick my jaw off the floor!

But, and this is a very tiny but I see a speck of dust a couple of centimetres above the central cloud, I'm sure its a very quick fix in photoshop.

Nice work and great to hear you had a good break.

Regards

Scaff

Thanks Scaff, it was a sorely needed break that's for certain.

Cheers 👍 Yeah there is a bit of dust on the sensor. I must have missed cleaning it off that shot. That shot has to be one of my favorites as well.

I was out at Eastern Creek earlier today for the Australian Superbike Championships, I won't bore you all with too many shots, I didn't have a particularly good day, long story short, I was not in the zone.

Anyway here are a few of the ones I was a tad happier with than the rest.

Finally got around to getting a pro flickr account. I'm slowly going through some of the events I've attended this year and I've been busy uploading the photos. As I'm clearing up my old flicker account to be a little more presentable, some of the shots in this tread will probably not link anymore. If you want to see many many more shots that I haven't added to this thread before, just click on the photo link below.

Unfortunately I have had to resort to watermarks now on my motorsport shots due to a bit of thievery and I apologies for that, any non motorsport shots I load here won't have the watermarks as i prefer not to use them where possible.

This weekend I'll be out at Oran Park for the Shannon's Nationals so next week I'll load some new shots in the tread as well.... also any Sydneysiders that are coming, if you see me snapping away, don't be a stranger, come say hi!

The pictures from post #169 are amazing, specially the fence, the lighthouse and the warning sign one, really deep colors and a overall great mood to them.

The bikes are also very cool, bright enough, and the bikes itself are very sharp 👍

The new shot is cool as well, but not quite as vibrant as you use to present. But a cool shot nonetheless.

What a day... This is the was the last national level race at Oran Park Raceway before it's closure to make way for housing development. Lots of thrills and spills and a great turn out of spectators. here are a few of the more spectacular events from the day... oh and plenty more photos here on my flickr account.

Awesome shots! I agree, what a day... Great way to say goodbye to national motor racing at Oran Park. A couple of major accidents too, including the t-bone F3 accident on the main straight. Anyway, I took some shots on the track at the end of the day. But i'm no photographer so my pics are poor.

But awesome shots once again! Don't know how you guys do it.....

P.S I'll try and get some of my video footage on youtube As soon as possible. (I took 50 minutes of it).
