System Of A Down Fans...Music

I like all 3 of the System of a Down albums released so far... I probably will like their future albums as well. I don't really have a particular favorite album, Toxicity is more melodic than their debut, but that doesn't make it worse. Just a little different. I like the way System of a Down catches you off guard all the time, by coming with a heavy banging part just after a sensitive part of singing.... to go into some strange Armenian folk music with guitar riffs through it... and on and on like that. It doesn't get predictable unlike a LOT of music out there after you heard the first 10 seconds of the song.

Ariel RULES!

👍 pretty much sums up my opinion of SoAD.

"Chop Suey!", "Aerials", "I-E-A-I-A-I-O" and "Roulette" can only be described as awesome. Their new song, "Cigaro", is pretty good too.

That's a surprise, I thought you would've despised their sound.. :odd:

But Roulette is most awesomes 👍 Some of their songs are just plain wierd though.

I said earlier in the thread I wasn't much of a fan, but my tastes have changed. :dopey:

I like a few songs. But I ain't a huge fan.

Took me a while to like them, but they kept playing them on the music channels.

SOAD are great! An I've got a ticket for this years Download festival, so i'll be seeing them 👍

An SOAD being punk??? Gimme a break, course they aint. Metal I'm afraid, not punk.

Yes, the New "Album" will actually be a 2-CD set, the first CD is coming out May 27th. One of the Singles is already called B.Y.O.B. (Bring Your Own Bombs). It seems they are still political, though I don't care cause I like the music.

The Album titled "Steal This Album!" wasn't an actual album but a bunch of random tracks that they couldn't fit into other Albums.

And Toxicity actually sold close to 6-million copies.. Which is a ****load.

I'm looking forward to the new Album titled "Mesmerize/Hypnotize" Each name will be a separate CD released at separate dates.

Oh and to whoever said SOAD was Punk. They are actually NüMetal.

Numetal? Punk? Gettafugouttahere!!

Numetal are garbage bands with a singer who attempts to rap or a dj doing scratch **** through the music. System of a down doesn't do any of that.

System of a Down is in a genre of its own, but if you like to put bands in categories just 'metal' would be the right name.

Wrong again socks. They are Nu metal, and Nu Metal has nothing to do with rap.

Actually NuMetal has a lot to do with rap. In fact, it is one of the major, if not the most major influences in Numetal. Just look at some of the most popular bands of this genre, like Linkin Park.

"What" exactly makes System of a Down nu-metal? Explain that to me... Because they worked with the Wu Tang Clan before? I guess Metallica is Nu-Metal as well then, they have a song with Ja Rule.... is it because System of a Down has a lot of Korn fans buying their music? No it isn't.

I bet all those so called hardcore heavy metal fans who despise anything that gets played on tv often brand any metal band with a relatively mixed fanbase "Nu-metal". Guess what, System of a Down is one of the few bands that has had many videos played on MTV without changing their style.... metal, or alternative metal, but definitely not nu-metal.

And if Nu-Metal real doesn't have any hiphop influences and I am completely wrong, then please explain to me the exact differences between a metal band and a nu-metal band.

I like to divide Nu Metal in two. On the left side are the crappy alternative bands, like Linkin Park & Limp Bizkit who like to think they're metal. On the right side are the true nu metal bands such as Slipknot, Mushroomhead and System of A Down.

Nu Metal doesn't exactly mean metal bands that rap. It's just metal bands playing with different styles. SoAD entertain a lot of different styles, whilst still keeping to metal, thus making them a Nu Metal band. Ill Nino have heavy emo influences, but they mix it with metal, so they're Nu Metal too. Get it? A metal band doesn't have to rap to be Nu Metal.

...and all that alternative Linkin Park garbage isn't nu metal, it's just MTV calling them metal IMO.

I get your point, but out of the 5 examples you mentioned, Linkin Park, Limp Bizkit, Slipknot and Mushroomhead.... these 4 have a regular DJ on stage scratching records. System of a down does not. Different of styles of music being mixed into it isn't really a valid argument to me why something is nu-metal. Most black metal bands mix their music with organs, that doesn't make them nu-metal?

You also have bands that put in techno-like sounds into their music and then they are suddenly branded "industrial". Or a band like Biohazard, they also mixed different styles into their music, but they make hardcore.

This still doesn't make it clear to me what Nu metal is. Often I think those metal fans just put anything they don't like and isn't heavy enough for them in the category "Nu-metal" just to tell to their fellow species members of unwashed, long haired, black t-shirt wearing, beer gut having metalheads to stay away from that band without having to explain all the details.

No. "Hypnotize" is being released later in the year. So it's kinda a double album I suppose.

B.Y.O.B is pretty awesome.

"Why don't Presidents fight the war? Why do they always send the poor?"

I just heard Bring Your Own Bombs (aka B.Y.O.B.) and it is better than Cigaro, IMO. I'm looking forward to this upcoming album!

I'm listening to BYOB for the first time now and I have mixed feelings about it. I guess it'll have to grow on me like most System of a Down tracks had to.

VERY few SOAD songs I have heard have I liked the first time listening to. (Wow, that sentence makes no sense at all...) Eventually, you hear more things happening in the song and your mind seems to groove to it.

Agreed. That sounds like what I was going to say.

Can you sneakily unofficially hand me a link under the table? ;)

This is a no-no. This website doesnt condone any distribution of "bootlegged" or "borderline" material. As i understand it, you are requesting material contrary to the spirit of GTP's AUP and TOS. Check your PM's smelly :(
