T100 not turning smoothly

Hi,

I recently bought a T100 wheel.

This is my first wheel with force feedback, but I'm experiencing that it gives me a lot of resistance when I turn it.
Even when the power cord is disconnected it's quite stiff to turn and I can hear the gears inside turning.

Today in a store there was a G27 on display and this wheel didn't give any resistance at all when it was not plugged in.

So I'm wondering if my T100 has a problem or if this is just normal for this wheel.

I'm thinking of returning the T100 and getting the T500 but I'm wondering if this one is also hard to turn like the T100 or is it more smooth like the G27?

I've never tried a T100, but it sounds like a similar thing to the Logitech DFP/DFGT: cogs but also the motor resisting turning the wheel. It may free up somewhat as it works in, but no guarantees (hopefully a T100 owner will drop by for that feedback).

The G27 is one of the most freely spinning wheels around, due to the cogs and bearings used. Most belt drive wheels (like the cheaper Fanatec and the T500) have somewhat more resistance, although should be less than a DFGT (or the T100 I assume). In comparison to the G27, the T500RS is a bit harder to turn, due to it having that belt drive system. However, when you've got it worked in and warmed up the extra resistance is not that bad compared to a G27, it should certainly spin MUCH freer than the T100. And the T500RS has a motor which is proven twice as powerful as the G27 and really kicks hard :)

I'd be remiss not to point out that the T300 (and TX) spins as freely as a G27 while being much smoother (belt not cogs) so also not having any cogging feel. When powered off you feel a bit of notching, but that brushless motor feels really smooth during use. If you want a good PS3/PS4 compatible wheel instead of the T100 I recommend looking into the T300 especially for that smoothness and ease of turning.

Thanks for the answer :)

I'm mainly playing the F1 series on PC and then also GT6 on PS3.

I was thinking of the T500 because it has the F1 rim, but unfortunately it's a bit pricey at €500.
I was also thinking about the DFGT, but then I would have to order the paddle shifter upgrade so in total it would cost me €200, almost the price of a G27 or T300. Which may not be worth it if it is similar in resistance to the T100.

I didn't really look at the T300 yet, but it also seems like a very nice wheel.

Do you think that the difference between the T300 and T500 is worth the extra €200 for the T500?

Mm yes, that's another option.

The T300 + F1 Rim would cost me €470, but then I would have 2 wheels, the stock one and the F1.

The T500 F1 costs €500, which would give me only the F1 wheel, but the pedals seem a bit better.

What do you think is the best option?

The T500 pedals are a LOT better, yes. The T300 ones have no clutch. And the brake pedal is not very firm so careful braking is tricky. That said, if you mostly race GT6 and the F1 series you will probably run with ABS and have no problems braking. The accelerator on the T300 set is fine.

Overall the T500 package is a good value set: you get high quality pedals, powerful FFB, and it feels great in GT6. You can choose between the 30cm diameter GT rim with fixed paddle shifters or get the more expensive version called the F1 integral T500 (note the F1 rim is 28cm diameter). I believe either T500 version comes with the fixed shifters, although you can remove them if you like (or buy a DSD adapter, real car rim and use the fixed shifters with that). It's no problem to leave the fixed shifters when using a rim which has moving paddles. They don't get in the way.

The T300 has no fixed paddle shifters, and comes with the Thrustmaster 28cm diameter round rim. So apart from having a few less buttons and different shaped shifters the actual hand position and ability to use for F1 cars will be pretty similar to the F1 rim. The motor on the T300 is brushless, meaning it feels smoother than the T500, but it"s also weaker. However, the more free spinning nature of the T300 feels great and you appear to be very susceptible to wheels which don't spin freely, so this is pretty important.

In your case I'd say the T300 free spinning is most important. You could stick to the default rim and buy better pedals (see the T300 thread for details) or try the stock pedals for a while and get the F1 rim.

How is the fan of the T300?

I heard that the fan is quite noise in the T500, but I can't find a lot of info on the one in the T300.

The T500 fan was changed in the GT6 branded model. The new version mostly just makes a noise of lots of air flowing. But indeed it's pretty loud (not that you hear it when racing).

The T300 fan is smaller, and you hear a higher pitched noise. However it seems softer to me, both in the airflow sound (less air flowing) and in the general noise level. It's not annoying, and I can't hear it while wearing headphones.

Well it isn't a problem for me as I'm also wearing headhones when gaming.
It's more a concern for my family when I play at night ^^.

But the T300 wit F1 rim looks like the way to go :)
