taking pictures of backfire

I got these 2 pics last night after about 30 minutes of trying. They're really nothing great compared to what is in this thread. The car is bone stock, so you don't need a fire-breathing modified monster to do it.

Which filter/settings did you use to get that burred effect in the background of the F40 pic? Very nice 👍

Hey mate, The focal length is on a low setting. You can set the focal length between 45 and 1 im pretty sure. This pic would be closer to 1.
The higher the setting, the more in focus everything will be, both up close and in the distance.

Ide recomend reading this. He goes through focal length more in depth and many other things.

Ok cool yeah that makes sense. Do you remember which panning mode you used? (and then i suppose its just playing with shutter speed until it looks about right)

And yeah I've read the guide - got good info there.
 
I got a bit obsessed with trying to get flamers, as I just couldn't time the pauses right. Then it just clicked and I got the hang of it. Here's a few of mine.

Not sure on the panning mode. Would have been 1 or 3. It wouldn't have mattered though becuase the frame rate would have been at 8000fps. And at that speed, changing the panning mode has little to no effect.

I have a photo of my best backfire, & it is the same car and nearly the same angle and flame. But it is different... Just :)
