Technique for beating those Samba buses.

It took me about 3 minutes to stop peeing myself with laughter. After that stopped I found it hard to get around these darn things. Then I'd get almost done and hit a freaking cone and need to start over. It's one of the wierdest challenges I've ever seen in a game. Anyone got some pointers to get gold. I'd like to unlock the TG test track.
 
Drafting, make sure you do it. You wouldn't think it matters so much with huge things but that extra 1-2 mph really is the difference. This took me ages it was so annoying. I would get to the last corner be neck and neck with first place and keep missing out. Other times the AI will force you off the road. One really annoying thing is how the grind along against you, just have to keep at it.

Also try and pass cars as fast as possible, you can get past the first 2-3 before the 2nd main corner.
 
This is GT baby, weird challenges are what it's about!

Enthusiasm aside, try being really smooth, don't decelerate too much through turns, slipstream as much as you can and there are a couple of very good overtaking spots:

* Chicago breaking zone, you can hoon through this
* Braking into the hammerhead - take the outside line so you're set up on the inside for the next one
* Down through Bacarach into Gambon

We're struggling to Gold it though :-(

Now I'll just have to figure out the names of all those corners. I think I'll have to save the replay of this once I complete it. It should be good for some laughs.

It's amazing how slow these things are. Hitting 60mph seems like a revelation in these.
 
I have a silver on that one. It's just not worth it to me at the moment.
 
Took me 6 Attempts to get Gold on that one :dunce:

First couple of times I hit a few Cones :lol:

Then the Next Race I hit one of the other Samba's a bit too erm hard :dopey:

Finally I worked out the Slipstream thing got a 6th place and thought jeez this is hard :grumpy:

Next race I noticed at the First Timing Point I was in the 7 an a Bit seond Bracket ,usually I was over 8 secs behind and I got Second Place :)

So at the Next Attempt I made sure I got all the Slipstream I needed took every Overtake I could get , Ended up in 6th after the First Lap and Finally got past the last Samba on the Last Corner with a very Fast Entry and a little bit of Sideways action :dunce:
 
I am sure Jeremy wrote this challenge. It is in the typically Clarkson's style
 
Like others have said, slipstreaming is a big part of it. Also, not hitting the other buses is hard, but obviously important, even little bumps seemed to slow me down a lot. It took me a few tries since I'm just starting to use my G27, but I finally golded it and now am stuck on the AMG Beginner Sector 2.
 
Slipstream, slipstream, slipstream. You can corner much faster than the AI drivers, so it's tempting to charge by them in the corners, but you have to make sure you're close behind one at the exit of every corner to get the draft. There is no point cutting someone off to gain a place if it slows them down and creates a gap, because then you'll have nobody to draft on the next straight.
 
The only time you will be able to overtake them is in the corners, so go in fast, brake late, and downshift before the turn. I managed to over take about 8 of them in the first lap doing that.
 
As everyone said, Slipstream is your friend. What I noticed is that the AI is very poor through Bacarach and Gambon as they seem to slow down way too much for the corner. I was in 4th on the last lap going into the corner and I mad up almost 3 seconds in one corner due to late braking and if I didn't just take it easy through Gambon, I would have won Gold.
 
I tried so many times I cheered when I got this lol. Slipstream and hammerhead you have to be careful not to overdo it but don't under do it else you'll never catch up. Try the inner line into hammerhead and that's all I can say.
 
Has anybody also done the intermediate TG challenge. I understand you only have to get gold on one of them to unlock the test track. If I'm going to invest lots of time into it I'm thinking I should do it on the easier one. Any suggestions as to whether the beginner or intermediate one is easier to gold.
 
Just got Gold in this myself. Most annoying challenge ever. It would make sense if you could cut corners and bump into the other vans, but you cant, whats so top gear about that?

you only unlock the track by getting gold on beginner, I won gold on the lotus challenge first and it didn't unlock it
 
Definately Jeremy Clarkson style... I can't get anything except bronze...
 
I almost got gold on my 3rd try. The first try I thought it was a one-lap challenge and quit right before Gambon. I was 5th already by that time. :yuck: Then second one, I hit some stupid pylon and DQ'ed. Then third time, I caught up to #1 car before Bacharach, overshot the corner, car went sideways...2nd place. :ouch:

It's much much easier with the wheel as you can control your brakes. You want to brake about 30% to get a slight dip in speed for the tighter corners.
 
Just dont lift off in the follow through! I know it´s scary at those speeds but you can do it!
 
For someone who asked you need gold on the beginner trial or intermediate to unlock TGTT
 
One annoying thing I had with this was that I was in 3rd in the second lap. then got DQ fro being hit from behind...

Suppose that'll teach me for being to much of a nancy with the brakes... :)

...and @Gobrigavitch... I believe that the names of the corners come up on the screen as you go. :)
 
I did with 0.018s. It's not that hard once you get used to what the drivers are like.
Always slipstream till you're nearly touching the bumper and watch where the one in front of him is going. Preparation is the key to this challenge.

I got silver with these tactics I am sure when I put some effort in it I can nail it.
Further done the first licences and all got silver for all of them. (without steer!)
When I get my steer I try for gold :)
 
You think the buses suck, wait till you try the Elise. That sucker slides like no tomorrow.

Only the cones WITHOUT the white stripe DQ you. If you run an opponent off the track, you can be DQ'd.

I had to turn on the the slide reduction thingy to do that challenge. Once i managed not to get disqualified i golded the thing right off the bat.

The most challenging thing i've found in the game so far.
 
Wasn't that bad was it guys? as long as you dont hit the cones or other buses and take all the overtakes as you come to them you should clear it. I thought it was fun and good for learning the track. So funny watchin a few of the lads take the follow-through at full pelt instead of turning down towards hammerhead last nite!
