Everyone seems to think that because these big companies have tons of money that they should pay people out the ass for stuff, and when the companies don't people complain and whine.

Go have a Coke and a smile and get over it.

Erm, if you guys read the article, it said

But Mr Thompson said it was a great feeling to have been thanked by such a major player in the world of computing.

... and nowhere does it mention he was pissed off by it. In fact, the "reward" isn't why I brought the article up... I just thought it was kinda neat that a teenager was helping one of the biggest companies in the world like that (I'll be damned 10 times over if I had enough knowledge to tackle that kind of stuff).

6 months is quite a long time to work on one thing and not get any reward for it. But im sure the kid will end up working for windows, or someother major company soon. If anything it is great work experiance.

Working for microsoft is almost not going to happen. My neighbor just got an interview with them. She had to go through about 5 hours of interviews here in toronto then they sent her down to Washington DC for another 10 hours of interviews. After all that they said they "may or may not call back". Needless to say, about 2% of the people that recieved the job offer actually got the job.

Funny how their hiring strategies are so strict yet their code is still so heavily flawed. Hopefully the next iteration of windows will be moderately better.

Either way, what the guy did will definately look awesome on a resume

I can safely say I am equal with the amount of icons on the desktop. It may be possible that I have more, lol.

On topic, that's pretty cool of him. I do think he will have a job at MS. Not saying your neighbor isn't qualified, but if they didn't hire them they didn't for a reason. This guy helped find, and fix a major glitch without even being paid, i'm sure that puts his qualifications way up.

Now only if microsoft could find out how to eliminate spam, popups, virus' and michael jackson websites....
