The Camaro packs much more power than last week's reasonably priced Peugot and costs only a couple thousand dollars more! The newest take on this classic is touted by GM as running the 'ring in 8:22, but let's see how fast you can take it around the Top Gear Test Track!

  • Post a reply in this thread for each entry into this ongoing series with your best lap time for the relevant trial.
  • Save your Ghost Replay for your best lap or you may be disqualified.
  • You will only be asked for your ghost replay if you win a podium position and are not required to post it with each entry but are welcome to. You are welcome to and encouraged to post and/or embed YouTube videos of your run with your submissions.

Next time the car will be peppier, certainly! But I think the Cappuccino represents the spirit of the event well so I wanted to start with it. The other good thing about them is that they're so cheap you can buy a second untuned one and join us without much fuss at all.

As for rims, well, honestly they don't make a bit of difference so new rims won't DQ you.

+1 to the great effort despite past challenges from previous threads.
👍

OK, my first attempt at it. Did 8 laps total and got a best time of 1:47.548 using the Sixaxis controller.

Do we just get the 1 lap to get the time, or can we do multiple laps and take the best time? If it's just the 1 lap then I have to redo.

I don't see a reason why you can't disable ABS, and you can do multiple laps and save the best.

Practice Mode, A Spec Free Run. You will use the rolling start given by the game.

This pretty mutch says it all. After your first lap you end the session , go save the replay.
And start a new lap with the rolling start the game provides.

Edit. No need to quit after first lap , normal time trialing allowed.

Oh crap, ok, will do that again. I was warming up the tires before starting the lap but that'd be illegal if we can't do multiple laps.

IMPORTANT EDIT DUE TO QUESTIONS: YOU CAN DO MANY LAPS AND TAKE YOUR BEST, I WON'T MAKE YOU RESTART THE SESSION FOR EVERY LAP YOU WANT TO TRY! HAVE AT IT IN TIME TRIAL FASHION! PLEASE SET ABS TO 1 (default) AS SETTING TO 0 GIVES ADVANTAGE TO SKILLED DRIVERS THAT WOULD NOT BE PRESENT IN THE REAL CAR (I'm pretty sure the Cappuccino has ABS).

IF YOU WANT TO WARM UP YOUR TIRES OR JUST GET A RHYTHM GOING, YOU ARE ALLOWED!

Added this note to the top post but want to make sure you guys see it. Carry on, nobody has to re-do anything! (unless you had ABS off)

...also, nice lap Slovv! Save that ghost!

I'll just upload my replay for now. it is a 1:41:019. I was hoping to get into the 40's but I don't feel like doing more laps right now, its such an annoying car lol.

EDIT: attached

OK Thanks for the clarification. Now I'll just edit this post if I do any better than what I just did. 1:46.367

TRC_Hunk - 1:40.748

It took me a while to figure out when to shift. I can probably hit a 1:40.3xx but thats it. Im still trying to get used to GT...I just made the switch from Forza.

Transmission: Manual.

Sorry to junk up the thread but I'm using my first wheel and the aspect of MT I have yet to attempt

Any tips on MT or would you like to see a Jimmy Carr like bad time from an MT noob? lol

Do a lap or two in automatic transmission and pay close attention to when the computer changes gears for you. Once you have a good idea, try some laps in manual and first try and do what the computer did, then try to do it better. Soon you will see your lap times better than they were with auto trans! And no matter what time you can run please participate! It's for fun more than anything, after all! 👍

In general, keep it on the high side of the revs but not so high that you're hitting the limiter.

1:41.602

dont think i am shifting at the right RPMs...I left quite a bit of time out there i think(at least a full second)..but this will get me on the board for now. Give it another go this weekend when i have more time.

DFGT wheel

Will try and give this a shot:tup:

and we are setting the time with tyres the cars comes with I presume?

My initial time was a 1:42, then I saw some of the times here and went back to the track to figure out where I was losing time. It was corner entry mostly - I had been driving without ABS before and now with it on you can really slam the brakes at the last moment and still make the corner.

I ended up with a 1:40.382 which wasn't perfect but good enough. There's a tenth or two in it if I really pounded out the laps but I can't be bothered. :)

Ooooo, only just spotted this thread.

Think I am going to throw my hat in to the ring and give this a spin tonight.

Could you just clarify the deadline please? It says 15th December in the OP, so does that mean 23:59.59 tonight (i.e. By the 15th) or 23:59.59 tomorrow (by the end of the 15th).

Just wNt to know how much time I have got to play with.

Thanks.

Scara.

New time - 1:39.948

Can you be bothered now? =)

You said you weren't using ABS, which isn't allowed (not using it) so are you using any other aids too? The other aids aren't allowed.

P.S. Wheel - G25

Thought I had the replay on my thumb drive but it looks like an older date on the file. I'll get it tomorrow.

Nah I'm done for this one, got other stuff to do today. Nice time. :)

As for the ABS it's something I haven't been using since GT5 was released but in this competition we have to have it set at 1. There was a definite adjustment period for me.

I always underestimate the last 2 turns on this track and take them a lot slower than i should.

rather good at hammerhead and chicago tho
