Jaime Alguersuari keeps dropping hints on Twitter that he has a contract in place for next season, with whom I'm not sure though. He posted this on the 20th Sep:

And this today:

I'm pulling for Sauber over Force India.

Would be good to see Jaime back on the tracks!

Come on, if Raikkonen has gone out of his way to build up an air of mystery about his future plans, only to reveal that he is staying with Lotus, it's going to be pretty damn disappointing.

As if there are any better seats than Lotus available, anyway.

And then Ferrari announces Kimi signed for 2013. Alonso has puppies. Oh 🤬.

True, Lotus only seems to be his best prospects for 2013, especially with most of the top seats being snapped up already. (No Red Bull + Mclaren seats left)

There may still be a potential Ferrari seat, but I just can't see Kimi return there, especially with all that happened between him and Ferrari in '08-'09.

So now you understand why I'm not on the edge of my seat over this one.

All of the rumours about the vacant Ferrari seat seem to put Nico Hulkenberg in it.

The only conceiveable move that I can see is Raikkonen going to Williams. They have a fast car; they're just let down by two drivers who aren't doing much with it. And when Raikkonen was first linked to a seat around this time last year, there was talk that the Qataris wanted to invest in the team if they could get him. That deal might still be available.

Well there's still no need for these type of comments...

Judging from Massa's improving form, Ferrari seems to be more inclined to keep him, especially after Alonso expressing that he'd love to keep Massa as his teammate.

Things can change very easily, even within a short span of 2 seasons. Just because they have a fast car in '09, it doesn't mean that they'd have one too in '10 (ahem BrawnGP-Mercedes).

There are also teams that had a big improvements within just a single new season too (Williams and Lotus '11-'12)

Heck, even relative pace can easily change within a season, so it's hard to tell whether they can sustain it for next year. (Even though big teams like Mclaren and Ferrari often tend to make front running cars as always)

The thing with BrawnGP - Mercedes is that they were different chassis from different manufactures.

BrawnGP chassis was I believe a carry over for the most part of Honda's 2008 car where as Mercedes was a new chassis. Add to that the change in regulations at the time (i.e. No re-fueling, slick tyres, big front wing, small rear wing, etc.)

And the thing with Ferrari and McLaren is, Ferrari have a on-off thing with F1 cars, always a top 6-8 car but it can still differ greatly from year to year. Where as McLaren always have a top 4 car, always. A lot of this is due to the fact that they have the resources to already be designing the 2014 car during the 2012 season. Where smaller teams can't as they don't have money, and don't know if they will even be a part of F1 in that season.

The Brawn gp car was a result of Honda realizing that their 2008 car was rubbish before the season even started. As a result, they started from scratch and pumped a ridiculous amount of money into what was supposed to be their 2009 car. Autosport once called it "the most expensive f1 car of all time."

Sorry, didn't know that much about BrawnGP, thanks for mentioning the minor details I didn't know about 👍

Bad luck Honda- Pump loads of money into new '09 car, then withdraws from F1.

Car goes on to win both championships afterwards :D

Don't forget that the BGP-001 had the Mercedes engine which wouldn't have occured if Honda were still in F1 at that point.

Supporting HRT does prevent heart attacks because they're not going to be challenging for victory with Maldonado about to take them out at any minute! :p

I don't know if that's sarcasm or appreciation but I wasn't trying to be a snob about it. I honestly only meant it to clarify stuff. Not to be a snob. Sorry if you took this the wrong way and hope you haven't 👍

I think he was genuine.

I thought that to but I just wanted to clear it up just in case.

Chill, I was being genuine :D

It's a pity that Honda left at a very wrong time really.

YAY! Even Sauber have join the train. Whoohoo!
He says "might". From the sounds of things, he can retain the seat on merit - Monisha Kaltenborn has said that his podium in Japan won't change the way the team sees him, because they already know what he is capable of - but having a sponsor won't hurt.

Tom
As in a Perez/Maldonado-esque sponsor? Or minor ones?
That's not clear. However, even though the team is losing Perez to McLaren, Telmex will stay on-board as a sponsor.

I won't buy what Sauber said. Sooner or later, someone with big sponsorship, regardless of what Kobay achieve, he will get kicked.

Though i hope Sauber won't be one of the team like that but seeing the situation now, i can't say they won't be like that. :/

It may all be moot - during the broadcast of the Korean Grand Prix, David Croft remarked that it was "pretty much an open secret in the paddock" that Sauber will field Hulkenberg and Gutierrez next year. I've also heard that Sauber find Kobayashi quite difficult to deal with, though I have no idea what that might refer to specifically, and it remains unconfirmed for now.

Seems more plausible now after today's messed up. Kobay may even end up as some team test driver or even Pirelli one too....or just move to sports car race or go back home.

If other scenario happen such as it's Heikki to move to Sauber, then i can say they swap places since Kobay did interest in Lotus/Caterham back then but i don't think Tony will grab him. It's all about sponsorship brotha' nowdays.

It would be a shame if Kamui went.

Thoughts on Massa? I think he will stay at Ferrari after Japan and today at Korea.

It's a shame yes. As for me i haven't see his potential in perfect car of the top team and i want to see him! I don't care if he end up in test or reserve for the next two years if he's in top team.

I've to wait about Massa since Ferrari can do a surprise but if i were Ferrari, I rather keep him for one more season to see how it goes.
