The AI thread

I over hyped it, By alot, and i apologies for that.

But the improvements are very noticeable in arcade mode(level 10) and for that i congratulate PD it's a step in the "right" direction.

However, aspec, just as slow as when GT5 came out,
Get beside a driver in a-spec to close, he will slow down.
Get beside a driver in arcade he will not slow down. even while in a turn if your side by side he will keep going.

But yes, their more aggressive, But still kind of to slow around certain turns, but for the great majority they have improve by a good margin.

Aspec, not at all.

so with that, on to spec 3.

I don't think A-Spec (licences, Special Events) are ever going to change simply because this is set in stone as part of the game, for better and for worse. Progress is tied to them, trophies are tied to them and, really, they have pretty much cornered themselves with it.

No, I think a more plausible alternative would be to have an "A Spec Pro" with the "10" AI rating, giving more cash/xp and start giving the AI option in seasonals as well (and maybe giving more cash/xp based on level selected)

I never heard of a developer improving the AI in a game yet fail to implement it in the one mode that relies it on the most.... That makes no sense.... Whats the point of even wasting time on it if they wont implement it into A-spec? Moronic to say the least.

Has anybody tried a a nascar race at daytona with the a.i. at 10. You can still win but there really impressive.Im getting loads of pack racing action and only winning by hundredth's. The lead must have changed a dozen times with them and me, lots of drafting manouvers. The only problems is they brake check and they aint afraid to pit you. Still though its a lot of fun if only it had cautions.

Guys, I know this may sound crazy and most of you already seen that the AI in arcade mode was changed, not perfect, but its better. The thing is, I'm just playing the European Championship on Aspec, with a stock BMW M3 E46... and I can guarantee that I'm having a different experience. AI seem more agressive. Not smarter, but agressive. Before, they used to crash our car in stupidity, now sounds like they are defending the place or whatever... all I can say is that I'm definitely having a different experience. Something has changed. Dunno if the AI has changed the way to drive because of the new physics.

But something has changed. If I make a mistake, for example being caught by snap-oversteer during a drift with the stock E46 (happened in Deep Forest), its a bit harder to get the positions back.

I've had a hard time in the Schwarzwald Liga B too...

Maybe its just because of the new physics...

A-Spec avoids all the good things they have implemented in the game. It makes no sense! 👎

GT's races would be a lot better when the cars you race automatically get the same tire set you use.

I tried out that new IA in arcade, but it's only fun when you're racing on sports hard like the competition. At least then it seems a little bit more like a race

Certainly AI is more aggressive, first few corners in arcade at Le Mans I got a Pescarolo C60 Hybride who just floored it on the outside everytime.

I adjusted aggresiveness to 8 and arcade mode races have been more thrilling. Best one was a nascar race in which the ai was attacking corners side by side with me and there was never more than 5 sec between any of the cars right till the end of five laps. And i didnt win with default tyres. Good stuff.

Rest assured I'll put these claims to the test. If i'm able to fly past these cars (in the corners) without any hassle then I'll know that the fan boys were telling fibs!

You need to drive clean tho cause if you play bumper cars you can probably still beat them in one lap. Drive as realistically as possible so only go for overtake when a gap exists and such like. You should definately find the game more challenging and enjoyable

The AI really hasn't improved at all. I did a 15 lap race at Indianapolis with the NASCAR cars in arcade mode with the AI set to to 10. I won the race by over 40 seconds, and they were still just as slow around the corners as they were before the update.

Must be your machine or superior driving skills lol. Seriously tho using NASCAR only race made me think polyphony should prob make a nascar only game cos the a.i seemed more natural in these cars. Had a very realistic experience at la sarthe.

I just redo the AMG Driving School after 2.0
The AI responded to my flash beam !!

On the intermediate level full lap, there was a E-class trying to overtake an A-Class mer. They were both on the right lane. As I was closing to them, I flash my high beam several time, and the E-Class ceased from overtaking the slower A-Class, I went through and I saw he overtook it after my pass

You should try
Nice...

I think it says it all when I can honestly say that the best races I have had in a GT game to date, is in the last few days running AI set to 10 in arcade.

It really does baffle me the way PD have chosen some of their game designs. AI option only for arcade. Slipstream setting for online only and mechanical damage for arcade and online.

Really is quite daft that after creating these functions, they pick and choose where and when they can be used.

Just whack every option you can into all modes. Let us decide if we want a sunday morning drive against either some OAP or Lewis Hamilton.

Just seems like PD have got every little piece in the game ready for us to turn on, They simply forgot to put in the menu to allow us to do it.

After playing Forza 4, I have become to hate even more the zombie cars from GT5. The physics and more natural car palette are a win for GT5, but the rest of the game is one big BORE. The constant grind and grind, just to get a car and even then it is a damn standard!

I am at level 32 ( did not bother with endurance ) on ASpec and Level 40 on BSpec so am fully qualified to give a balance opinion.

Follow the yellow brick road, follow the yellow brick road....👎

The AI has most definitely improved in A Spec too.

Spent some time with the Schwarzwald B and Japanese Championship and there were some good fights going on.

The need for handicapping oneself has become far less, though it's still down to chance to get aggressive AI in the top runner cars.

If you do, the AI will attack, try to outbrake on corner entry, give room or bully you. That is, as long as one hasn't fully passed them. Then they'll lift still which is a shame.

Can't please everybody. Make the AI harder and the moaning starts again that not every average Joe wins any race at first try or gold every licence test. Had that with the Expert seasonal and unfortunately there was no second helping yet.

Is there a way of changing the hardest of the AI in arcade mode?

Yes, check the GT5 options in your main menu, you should see "Arcade Options" or something, click it, the turn the AI aggressive ratio to 10. Go try the new AI in arcade mode (obviously). Quick race, choose level A.

Picked up the Spa DLC this week. After a few practise laps, I decided to have a 3 lap race against the new AI on max aggression setting. Everyone has Hard sports tyres, and I used a 450hp sorta GT4 spec 370z - really enjoyed that, the AI in spec 2.0 is much better, plus I guess being a new track means the AI have better pathfinding files 👍

The AI all act differently. I ended up 5th, and even if I knew the track better, the lead AI was miles in front....
Had a nice battle with the RUF
There were a few times were he came up the inside and just about took me, but he backed off due to a corner coming up

Made a video of the race here

Awesome video CoolColJ... it shows that the AI is a lot more dynamic and natural... the mistakes, the different lines they take, really great!

I can feel that on Aspec events too, just a lot less pronounced, but the AI feels different...
