The AI thread

I'v got to say I did some a-spec today and the AI seem to be a lot more realistic. they are fighting for position with each other and you. I went on the Tuner championship today and there was an AI in a Yellow Bird that bined it on lap 3 of GVSW that then came back from the back of the pack to beat me for 5th place...

AI has always been poor in this game. So what if they can avoid bumping into others. Is be really happy if they knew how to drive.

They're way to slow in the corners. They're just not challenging enough. I have more fun chasing my time trial ghosts and playing online.

Improving the AI needs to be number one priority... I don't want to spend 99 laps in first place.... Or lap someone in second place for the tenth time. I want to lose .... I want the AI to be like F1's AI.... challenging and rewarding.

Make it happen

What's with A-Spec? Just race, people.

It's not as if the experience you get from A-Spec races are worth it. I've probably spent double the time in Practice and Arcade than doing A-Spec. I haven't even completed it.

It's just me, but I don't look at A-Spec like it needs to be completed or even used, meaning A-Spec just seems to be there without much reason to be.

A-spec is a fundamental part of the game. Yes, online racing is a lot of fun and with the new AI update I guess arcade is gonna be a lot of fun as well, I'm not saying that the only important thing is A-spec. What I'm saying is that A-spec is important too and that it would be nice to have some AI options for that as well. After all, endurance racing in arcade mode wouldn't be the same as in A-spec.

I just did a 2 lap race at Trial Mountain in an RUF 3400 something or other, came 7th of 16 :D The A.I are impressing me with their speed, but something's missing... :indiff:

Be honest now.... Are they taking corners like learner drivers still?

Tell the truth now because when I get home and play this game I'm expecting F12011 like difficulty!

Some of you guys seem to praising the AI a little too highly.... Cant help but think youre all indenial lol. Fingers crossed I'm wrong.

i think TorqueHappenS08 is overhyping it.

The ai are still incredibly easy, ive tried multiple tracks and car combos, proffesional leve, with aggressiveness at 0,5 and 10...i won every race easy and flew past them in underpowered cars..

they seem to react better yes,but they certainly arent any harder,at least for me.

Nice an un fanboy like post. This seems more believeable.

Shall give it a go tonight. Will no doubt be any different. Deffo need to up AI skills!

It appears to me that the slider is like the hot and cold slider from B spec. Setting it at 10 the A.I behave the same way they do when running hot in B spec.

This,i was trying to find some way to explain it in my previous post.

I was going to start the Aspec 24 hour of the Ring earlier, and while I was tired and not at my best, the AI were giving me a fair run for my money. I was in 2nd with 1st and 3rd about 10 seconds away 2 laps in when I noticed the 1st place car was getting further away and by the straight 3rd was breathing down my neck. He even tried driving down the inside off of the start/fin straight, and ended up in the sand

I was using a Team Marmot Peugeot BTW.

Rest assured I'll put these claims to the test. If i'm able to fly past these cars (in the corners) without any hassle then I'll know that the fan boys were telling fibs!

Sadly, the AI still are like the unmovable brick walls they were before. I blew a turn a bit at Mazda and full-on slammed into one of the AI, I lost control wildly while he kept on going like nothing even happened.

And just now I was in an X2010 race, spun out at max speed, and an AI hit me head on, knocked me off to the side while he just kept going with no stability or speed loss whatsoever.

To those who lied about things being more challenging.... Shame on you.

They still take corners like old people :(.

One thing PD should do is either allow you to pick/choose your opponents or have your race against cars with similar pp levels.

Bored of racing against 6 or more of the same car.

I'm currently running A-Spec Tsukuba 9 hours. I think AI Agression here is set to 5 probably. Before Spec 2 they were panicing and letting you go by when you get close to them. Now they have to see that you are seriously much faster than them or you ram them a little bit, then they're like thinking "eh, let him go by". But I'm in Xanavi Nismo '06 premium car, and I don't know what tires is Amuse GT1 Turbo using, but it's seriously fast. Ok, they're still braking too early on some corners (but that will depend on track), but overlapping is now nice - when you come close, they leave you some space and go off throttle, so you can easily go by.

Dude the AI improvements are limited to arcade mode, if you want to experience it just go to arcade mode and set it to 10. Here is a video showcasing the new AI:

I was driving in arcade mode. They still take the corners very slowly.

They may leave you in the straights (if youre driving a slower car) but the moment you reach a corner you can take them (without bumping into them).

If you watched the video i posted then you wouldn't be saying this. Turn off all aids (Including ABS), choose the correct tyres, set the AI to ten, choose expert level and enjoy the race. When i raced the AI they seemed very close to FM4's, and that's a very good thing.

The AI really hasn't improved at all. I did a 15 lap race at Indianapolis with the NASCAR cars in arcade mode with the AI set to to 10. I won the race by over 40 seconds, and they were still just as slow around the corners as they were before the update.

I always use expert. Never used a level below.

I usually use meduim or soft sports tyres. with traction control all the way off.

I'll try your method tonight. Still doesnt explain why the drivers are so slow around corners.

There we go.

Still slow!

The thing about the video, I watched the first 1minute or so. The AI aren't faster, the driver is much much faster than them he is just being very careful not to bump the AI, but they are snailing it around.

Personally I still think the AI are painfully slow, in the FGT seasonal they seemed even worse than they were when I did the FGT championship last year. They were practically stopping off for a takeaway order at every corner, I lapped them during the High speed ring event.

Idk I think its just me, but on circuit de la sarthe it seemed the ai would hop out there drving line to catch my draft

Yeah, AI in A spec mode is still the same, they still park the car on corner exit if you are somehow near them. Seems like it's a script code PD used to let noob players pass easily and win races, but in this way they almost killed A-spec from D1. Arcade mode difficulty levels should be implemented even in Career mode.

Well, people wonder why these improvements are (still) limited to arcade mode, they wont give you credits for arcade races, In this way A-Spec mode is just something like a workplace, go grind for the money and than go have fun in arcade mode. It's an escamotage, but the Career mode should be always the core, the most enjoyable part of the game.

You'll still brake much later than they do and running on the same tyres makes a 2 lap race a cake walk.

They don't give up a place so easily, though, and their mid corner speeds and exits are faster for sure.

Last night i tested the AI on a 5 lap race at trial mountain, lvl 10 difficulty. I was in a stock 07 GTR, SH tires. I was in first by the 3rd lap BUT right before the end of our second lap I was about to pass the first place car (Audi R8) coming down the back straight into the final turn. This is the small S-turn with the steep banking to the inside. The R8 was on the racing line to the right side of the track, I late brake him to the inside of the turn, and assume he would let off and just get behind me. BUT as I start to turn in next to him, he doesnt let off and stays right next to me, actually fighting me for that piece of real estate instead of giving it up. However, there is that steep banking to the right at the 2nd part of that corner, and there just isnt enough room for 2 cars to go through there at speed. Instead of backing down, he nails the banking, does a barrel roll into me, turns me around backwards, where I watch him roll until he comes to a stop on his side against the wall. It... was... awesome.

The new AI definitely take more risks, even if it means they might make a mistake. The may still be a little slower around the track, but at least now they have some balls.

I utterly and completely agree with you. PD have seemingly shifted focus completely onto online and hardly think about the Aspec career.

Why does ARCADE mode get more options to make it more realistic than Aspec career??? HELLO....Arcade should be the place for noobs to go and learn the game and be handheld.....then off to Aspec career and be challenged.

I told you.

:(

All they need to do is offer a setting that will make this as difficult as the new F12011 Game.

In F1 2011 if I manage to finish a race Im smilling with a sense of achievement. If I win Im feeling even better.

Whereas in GT5 its just too easy to grind my way through races. I spend most of my GT time racing against myself (Time Trials) or playing online!

I think its a bit changed on Aspec/Seasonals too... but is nothing near the level 10 AI... something really average, but I've seen AI fight a bit for positions, etc... its different. Dunno if its like that because of the new physics...
