A vacuum just builds up when you drain it without venting.

I'd imagine thats a mock-up, made from much thinner metal, depressurised to a few bar above implosion, with the final sudden pressure release being done suddenly by a pneumatic system. Or it was done with mechanicals inside. I'm sure that if it were genuine, a pressure safety valve would have come into play, a long way before that would happen, if that could happen at all without obvious exterior deformation first, and it'd be on the rails.

I think I've read a story about that ages ago and it is real, they wanted to show what could happen if you don't vent it. Something with injecting steam or so, could be wrong though.

Looks like I'm seeing things xD ... the "alien face" is in the original video too. But hey those two black dots in the middle of the tank do look like a 'shopped alien face
