Either way, lets get this thread back on topic.

No, seriously. As many have said, the mods are doing a fine job of it, generally speaking. Creating threads like this, in this section particularly, doesn't help them out.

It probably just makes more work for them.

Somebody moved this thread to the help desk so obviously a mod saw it and didn't shut it down.

I also edited the OP so the thread will serve a more useful purpose, other than just random ideas.

Say what you mean, mean what you say. Don't fiddle about behind the bushes gently suggesting something without actually saying it.

What you're trying to put forward is that he's a banned member operating with a new registration, and if you're not, then leave him alone already.

------- Moving on
*Before a reply or topic can be posted, make the AUP appear on the next page and the poster cannot click accept/finalize post until a 30 second countdown has ended.
*Add something to the AUP at the top that helps people realize GTP is not just another forum with another meaningless usage policy, and that GTP's actually matters/More of a black tie affair.

I think you think you know what you are talking about but I think you don't actually know.

Yeah.

No one has implied, at least to my knowledge, that he is a formerly banned member. What we have been saying is that he hasn't been here long enough to really have an opinion on how this place should be run, or what the unspoken rules even are.

No, he is just trying to give an example of what to do with a new member you think is a banned member with a new account.

Anyway, if you don't choose to accept my ideas, I understand that because I have only been on here for a month (I wouldn't listen to a noob either). I just noticed a recurring bug with all these new members that I thought was interesting, so then I thought, how would could this be fixed? I was simply trying to be a catalyst to help solve the problem, however small the problem may be. In no way was I stating my opinion on how this place should be run, I was just merely throwing out some problem solving ideas. Sorry if it came off differently.

As I've said earlier, politely remind them once, and if it blows up in your face (you'll likely be accused of "backseat modding"), then just report them.

I don't really see the problem tbh.

Certainly no problem or behaviour that is any different from how its always been, granted the scale might have increased but so have the amount of mods and forum sections so again, nothing that hasn't been "taken care of"

But, I have only been here 105 months, so maybe its all blurred together.

I've been here just as long as you... minus 104 months...

But I'm thinking it may be possible to get rid of this small glitch... Just with a bit of programming...

It's not too necessary though, as new members won't bother clicking on the AUP link. And although it may be fairly simple programming (I don't actually know though), making a 30 second timer for reading the AUP or answering a quiz wouldn't change much. People will wait those 30 seconds on another tab. Or will complete the 'test' with flying colours (or logic mostly) and think, "screw it" and stick with 1337 txt speek.

Yes but the test puts it in peoples heads that GTPlanet is serious about the AUP. I would think most people would have enough common sense that they would understand that its not normal to take a test on the AUP of every website you join, so they would understand that GTPlanet is serious about it. If the person continues to violate the rules after they have actually passed the test, than they deserve what ever punishment is coming to them.

That's the thing, some people don't take the Internet seriously at all. They're gonna take the test "seriously" (or use logic - that's what the AUP is really), pass and then post crap until they're banned. There's no point to enforcing it more than normal. The AUP is there for smart people to read and stupid people to skip and get banned.

If they agreed to the 'Terms and Conditions' when Registering; then it's their own problem.

Give them a looong holiday.

Correct, link to AUP, explain why and move on.

I like to make it as scathing and personal an attack I can.

If it's part of a word then it will not be highlighted. But nevermind about the entire idea. Too much effort just to provide a benefit for lazy members..

+1 Many people think the Internet is the only place possible to do whatever you want without consequences.

Anyone ever thought about leaving the user a visitor message? It's more personal, doesn't clog the thread and it's available for others to see in case the user goes off on one and starts flaming you.

I just avoid the GT5 section completely. It seems to work for me!

New users that take things too seriously would (oddly) claim that as a "personal attack", and may start retaliating viciously:yuck:

I feel that the Report button's "Set and Forget" is a bit more appealing...given a valid reason to do so.

That's what I meant, if the new user has a go at you for reminding them of the AUP, you will have evidence of it and they can be dealt with accordingly.

When everyone registered, they checked a box stating that they had read the AUP. While the staff has no way of making sure you did actually read it, we can make you follow the rules that you said you read. ;)

How many people though accept into terms and conditions that they have not read. I know I have done it on several occasions on other things :)

Well, unless we employ someone to go to new members houses and force them to memorize the AUP at gunpoint, there isn't...

You can start organising that ;)

Like I said, it's not the staff's job to make you read it. It is the our job to make you follow it.

Do yourself a favor and read the AUP. NOW! :p

This is one of the few exceptions where I did read the T&C's :D So you needn't worry ;)

Most of the time, I just skip the "Terms and Conditions" like things, but for some reason, I decided to read the AUP.

Probably because it's not that long.

Which brings us back to my main point. How do we get new members to actually read the AUP?

You do nothing. It's not your responsibility. If you have an issue with something then click that little report button. If not let the mods do their jobs and not everything needs to be nitpicked. If a person's grammer or double posting gets to be a problem I guarantee the mods notice and it can be dealt with that way. I see no need to point out the AUP eveytime new members do something.
