In the movie world there are good stories and then there are great stories. Under special circumstances there are stories so good that it takes more than one film or two films. Where the public is so in love with the movie that they into a frenzy, wanting more.

And most of the time producers, directors, etc. will deliver what the public want. So I made this thread to find out, what people think is the THEIR FAVOURITE TRILOGY OF ALL TIME!

i voted austin powers because its owns. :dopey: 👍
Lord of the Rings, Star Wars I-III and Scary Movie also has your vote.

I voted for the original Star Wars Trilogy(IV-VI).

Lord of the Rings is good - VERY good - but I think it can only really be classed as a single, very long film.

Problem is, most of the other trilogies have a week film. Austin Powers 3 blew. Jurassic Park 2 blew. T3 blew. ALL of the Screams blew. Scary Movie blew after about a half hour of the first one. Matrix was fine, but the afterthought films blew. Star Wars 1-3 all blew heartily. Blade Trinity blew more than the blowiest thing ever. American Pie just stank (though Alyson Hannigan? I'd hit it!).

That just leaves Godfather, Star Wars IV-VI and BTTF. I've never seen Godfather because mob stuff doesn't appeal to me. Star Wars IV-VI were great, but only BTTF remained consistent throughout (despite contradicting itself twice - I was talking about how funny it was and the quality of the performances). The make-up was great - and all of the reasonably-young actors worked brilliantly as younger AND older versions of themselves.

Oddly though, Crispin Glover - George McFly - was only in the first film...

i voted other for a series of films thats longer than just a trilogy, i think its round 20 now...

James Bond movies kick ass!!!! Ive seen em all and they take great stands on the back then political issues whilst still pouring in action all the way!!!

So my vote goes to 007 :sly: just ahead of Star Wars IV - VI

I agree on most of your take there. I recently bought the first Godfather and it was awesome!. I've seen all three before, but I forgot everything about them, so I don't remember if II & III were any good.

Jurassic Park, I liked all three. Blade, first two. Matrix would've been one of the best film ever made, if it wasn't followed by the sequels, IMO. Terminator and T2 were so good, I can't believe they followed the series with the garbage they called T3. Back To The Future to me was like Matrix. First one by itself, it's one of the best films I've ever seen. II & III were OK, but nowhere near the standard of the first.

I'm a huge Bond fan as well. I have all of them on DVD, including the unofficial, "Never Say Never Again" with Sean Connery.

My favorite Bond flick, "You Only Live Twice". I might be bit biased though. :D

If I could have I would have split the trilogies into genres, but I'm too lazy. So in my opinion Austin powers is the best comedy trilogy by a long shot. Godfather is more of a drama then an action flick, but whatever genre it is in, it dominates it.
All the godfather movies were good. I even liked the third one.
Back to the future is awesome. I haven't seen blade. But star wars dominates the action genre.

Actually, I think Kevin Smith's trilogy is way better. I think it consisted of "Clerks", "Mallrats" and then"Chasing Amy". I'm sure Men In Black and Rush Hour series are trilogy in the making as well. If those two can nail the third one, I think they'll be better than the Austin Powers series. I have all three Austin Powers, but the third one was definitely dissapointing to me. First two were awesome!

I didn't find the third one disappointing at all. I just thought it was a little out of place, because a lot of the material was more main stream based. I thought the ending was great tho, they could have tied up the ends a little better tho, but hey it's austin powers, what are you going to do. At the beginning of the second one Vanessa ended up being a femme bot I was like what???! But it was still a good twist and made fun of how in the Bond films they don't explain much about how every film has a different girl......

Gyro-copter PWNS!!!!!!

That is also my favorite one.

I'm actually suprised to see famine backing up bttf. When I read the first post I thought I would get flamed for voting for it or something. lol.

Lord of the Rings. Extended versions are simply incredible movies. Of course, you'll only realize that 13 hours later. :dopey:

It's pretty much one film. But, isn't that what all the trilogies are SUPPOSED to be? :indiff:

 I remember hearing about the extended version "Return of the King", that was to be shown in theaters along with the first two extended versions. I was thinking "cool!"(what a geek!), but after sitting through the normal cut "Return of the King" in the theater, all I could think of was, "this movie's too long!""it needs intermission!".

No one voted for Free Willy yet. That option is just a bait option. I wanted to see who would vote for it so I could make fun of them for loving a whale.

What about Indiana Jones? That'd def be a choice of mine, so i voted other.

BTTF is a killer though, and IV,V&VI is of course a classic. LOTR deserves a mention too :)

Yeah, Indy. That one was good. The first was just a good movie, then a funny but relativily dumb movie, then an ok movie. They might actually get the fourth one out before the next decade. If Lucas every agrees on a script.

As far as Blade.....Wesley Snipes is suing New Line and the Blade director right now for "forcing" him to do the movie. Man, I'm all about Blade, but that script was just weak... 👎

The Godfather is my pick, it has influenced speach, and other movies probably more than the others...

How many other films have said since " go to the matresses ", " make him an offer he can't refuse ", and many more quotables...Just great acting, great writing, and great direction !

Acting in the Godfather, for the most part was exceptional. Godfather III, should've never been made.

One of my favorite scenes in all of movies was when James Caan's character beat up his brother in Law with a trash can. man that was good stuff.

erm, Die hard anyone?

the die hard trilogy is the greatest, so dam good, the action is awsome and the storylines are brilliant.

Godfather had some of the greatest fight/shooting scenes I've ever seen. And the acting is the best in any of the other trilogies with may Back To The Future in a close second. The 3rd film just like the Austin Powers 3rd flick, seemed to be out of place, as it involved to much politics and not enough crazy Italian slaughter. But I thought it was an exceptional ending tho, the movie was worth watching just to see the last.....15 minutes I think with the death of his daughter.

And when Sonny beat the **** out of that stupid little sob I was throwing my fists around with him. Nice pounding.

And on of the most shocking scene I've seen in the trilogy in my opinion was when Al pacino punched that annoying wife of his.

Yeah, Die Hard was good stuff. I really like the first and third one. The second one...eh. :indiff:

undertaker missed that!? Blasphemy! :D I would've still voted for the original Star Wars, but Indy Jones would've been in second place. Also, as GT_Fan2005 mentioned, Die Hard is an excellent one as well. 👍

The Godfarther trilogy, this owns all other trilogies. They're the best acted even if you don't like mob films. This is what top class acting and directing is all about, and all 3 of them, yes ALL of them were great. If only they didn't kill Creasy off in Man on Fire and stuck to the books they could have turned that into a pretty damn good trilogy.

I didn't know that. Man, you're right. That would've made a great series.

Yeah in the books he doesn't die in the end, and theres a few other books about him. Also the book was based in Italy and it was the mafia not the police who were the bad guys and Pita was called Pinta.

DAng, he took on the mob on there home turf? That's serious!

Wow, I didn't know man of fire was based on a book. I thought that movie was great and Creasy was a crazy charater. I guess I better take a look at the books, what are they called?

The book of Man on Fire goes by the same name, theres also an older make of the film which is set in Italy against the mob also called Man on Fire though it't not near as good and will show it's age now.

http://web.singnet.com.sg/~tonym/quinnell.html theres a list of books by author AJ Quinnell (his real name is Phillip Nicholson) who wrote Man on fire and theres an asterix next to each one that involves Creasy. Sadly he died just over a week ago.

It's actually interesting to read further down the page that Quinnell was woring on a film treatment involving Creasy, which would be a prequel as well as a book based on his earlier years in Vietnam and Korea. What will happen to thoes now thoguh remains to be seen. Even if someone finishes them, will they use the right style? will they be good enough?
