Once again, stidriver proves his ridiculous prowess behind the wheel :sly: 👍

Back to the drawing board... although a 7'11 is probably out of the question

I can't go faster than that, so I'm going to start building cars for the 400hp competition.

I like it. 👍

Ive just run a sloppy 7'09.100 in the silvia spec R aero (s15) thingy.

Im not going to post it however, as i have to state something.

I have spent a few days trawling through the used markets trying to find something that would challenge the Silvia time posted by stidriver, and i have failed miserably.
Ive been through old skylines, old rx-7's, newer cars, old 4x4's, favourites like the levin; tuned up to 300 brake, an mx-5, an MR2, even an S2000 that i found was probably the closest, and then some silvia's and then it struck me.

I cannot find an S15 for less than 12,810cr.
There arent even any S14's for less than 12,000cr.
Im a very sceptical man, and i am permanently disgruntled, hence the username, and i dont like to be outdone, nor find underhandedness occurring around me, and so when i found that no matter how many days i advanced and bought and sold cars through the game, i could not get to an S15 silvia spec R aero, for less than 12,810cr, even with 64,000 miles on the clock, i began to suspect something may be up. :irked:

I decided to check my garage, and i have bought an S15 spec R aero through the process of trying to find the cheapest one i could, and it was priced at 12,810cr.
I selected this car, then went to this page online, looked at stidriver's setup, and copied it.
This is where i found my second problem.
It was all going well, till i purchased the oil cooler that stidriver has listed as his last power upgrade mod.
This took the horsepower to 312.
Clearly against the rules of BHP limit (for this thread at least :sly:)

I decided to run the car anyway, as according to his post, i have copied his car to the nth degree, with the only variables being, how much mileage his car has, and how much horsepower it has remaining after an oil change, due to wear-in period.

I easily fell off twice in the first lap (a 7'14) so i ran a second.
3/4 of the way round, i got pflanzgarten II wrong, and my ghost started to catch me, taking a good 1.5 seconds out of me by the time i had gotten to T13.
As i crossed the line, the time reads 7'09.100

This means, i have easily beaten stidriver's time with the same car.
I am not that fast to beat him so easily, and i made mistakes, remember, so why am i ahead of him after two laps?
Is it my ridiculous prowess behind the wheel?
I think not.

I think that there is something suspicious about his car/setup/time, and this leads me to ask myself, "how can this be proven?"
The truth is, with this sort of series, it cant, and that is where my education stops, because i now realise i will have to take everyone's times in here with a pinch of salt, due to the ability to cheat, even if its only with the budget involved, being so readily available.

Im not saying that stidriver's a cheating racer, that would be wholly unfair.
What i am saying, is that using his shining example of a fast car setup, i was unable to replicate it exactly, and therefore, i find his time/car inconsistent with the rules of this challenge.
This could be my mistake entirely, but how would i ever know?

I think i am going to await the backlash, and avoid posting any serious times in here for the time being, and maybe just add times for fun, that can be verified by replay.

I have NOT saved the 7'09 lap, because the tune is not within the confines of the rules, but i will gladly run a faster lap than that in the above mentioned car, and save a replay, and post it up for anyone using PAL to download, if requested.

I remain a proud member of Kent's RSR's and always will be.

Please excuse me.

:irked:👍

VEXD I have no reason to not go by the rules. So for a very sceptical man I put the car back in the same trim. Plus run up the days waited for the same car to show back up in the used lot again.
Had this photo still on VHS tape when I checked lap as clean.

Don't care if I win or lose, but I'm gonna try some random cars, even if they're not with the norm. Should be fun anyways :)

Vexd I can attest that there are indeed S15 R Aero's available for $10,350 as well, tuned the same way with max output at 296hp. I believe the difference is dependent on which region(i.e. NTSC) the game is from. Right now I'm working an '96 RX-7 RS that I know can run quicker than the S15. I just haven't been able to run a lap I'm happy with.

I can't go faster than that, so I'm going to start building cars for the 400hp competition.

I used the same car on Stage 1 turbo (297 hp), R2 tires, and S1 weight reduction a few posts back and came in a full fifteen seconds slower on a VERY clean lap... I attempted your build (using just the chip and oil change) and only got 276hp, not the 298hp you quote. If yours was a 6.2mi/10km special (which I don't think exists for the RS-R), it would be MUCH more expensive than the 10,687 you quote.

Given your price quote (which is identical to mine I think) we're both on NTSC games. I hate to do it, but I gotta make the call for verification on this one. 👍

<edit> Semi-Racing exhaust combined with the chip and fresh oil puts it right at 298hp, but that's a 2900cr. part - did you accidentally include it without accounting for it in the budget?

Good catch. I was trying different setups last night (adding and removing parts) and got confused about which parts were on the car when I made that lap.

In any event, that 7:10.221 lap should be disallowed and I'll try again.

Cool deal. I'm experimenting with the same car, so we'll see what we can come up with 👍

I sacrificed a bit of power (dropped to 290 hp) and added a wing, and I'm down to 7'22's, but there's plenty of room there I'm fairly sure. I'm planning to drop another 5-ish horses, play with the downforce settings, and add some drivetrain parts and see what I get. I don't think any of us are going to catch the Aero though!

Thats only because the SVX isnt included in GT4. :sly:

Right then, so what ive been told is that you can run faster in a car on NTSC with less HP?
And you can buy it cheaper?

OK.

stidriver, my sincerest apologies. and thanx for the verification pictures.

Superhero, thanx for clearing that up. 👍

However, it doesnt take the bitter taste from my mouth.

You guys have fun.

:irked:👍

I have "legalized" my setup on my RX-7 and got a new time:

Weight Reduction 1 - 1,200
Sports Exhaust - 1,600

Total - 29,787

290hp
It wasn't a perfect lap, I could lop 5 seconds off that if I'm lucky.

Thats only because the SVX isnt included in GT4. :sly:

How I wish it'd be faster than the S15... alas, being a luxury GT, it's a bit of a heavyweight :ouch: Maybe GT5 will reintroduce the glory that is the Alcyone though :sly:

I think the differences mostly balance out from PAL to NTSC though. In this case, the S15 Aero is cheaper and thus can take more modifications, but I'm sure there are other cars in PAL that offer the same advantage over NTSC.

I can't go faster than that, so I'm going to start building cars for the 400hp competition.

There may not be a 400hp challenge.. well if there is i wont be the one making it :)

Rex is at 7'18'746 but I don't know that it's going any further... figuring it might be time to switch to a new car.

So...

Ran an '89 300ZX (winged) on R2's with Stage 1 weight reduction and a Racing Intercooler (296 hp, ~29,550cr.)to 7'22's today but it's still no challenge for the S15 and part swapping won't make enough difference to matter much...

I think, in terms of cars, the ideal may already be in play 👍

I ran a few more laps hoping for a "hail mary", but all 3 cars I tried in the competiton ('97 Camaro, '89 300ZX, and '97 RX-7) are all stuck at the 7:20.xxx range.

yh. i tried to make a worthy contender to your subarus and rx7s with a more interesting choice...... didn't work as well as i thought though. here's my tally down:

budget: cr.30,000

buy honda civic type r (ek) '98
182hp cost cr.9,990
budget left cr.20,010

make an oil change
up to 184hp cost cr.50
budget left cr.19,960

add stage 2 NA tuning
up to 216hp cost cr.11,500
budget left cr.8,460

add a racing chip
up to 224hp cost cr.1,000
budget left cr.7,460

carry out stage 1 weight reduction
down to 987kg cost cr.1,000
budget left cr.6,640

carry out stage 2 weight reduction
down to 955kg cost cr.5,000
budget left cr.1,460

add a rear wing
cost cr.1,200
budget left cr.260

give it a car wash
cost cr.50
budget left cr.210

final budget cr.210 final power 224hp

now, i thought it would do pretty well, but it got a time of 9'01'455.
*sarcastic* now try and beat THAT! *end of sarcasm* :indiff:

i may try a tvr gritth (can't spell it right but you should know what car i'm talking about).

i may try a tvr gritth (can't spell it right but you should know what car i'm talking about).

Griffith's go for more than 30'000 and have more than 300hp.. so you may not try one sorry (:

It's hard to break an average FWD car in under 8 minutes, no matter how much money you can throw at it... it'd be interesting though to see what the fastest 30,000cr. FWD car is though! The parts selection would be much more important since a lot of FWD's actually end up getting slower past a certain power figure (for most it's under 300)

Building a FWD car might be fun, just to see how fast it will go. I seriously doubt a fwd can challenge the S15 Aero, or even the RX-7's, but it might be fun.

Fwd's can be fast around the 'Ring. I got a '98 Ford Taurus SHO that I managed to get around the track in under 7 minutes. Can't use it here as it cost way more than 30,000 and had 400+hp.

It'll be a while before I can try because last night I started the 1000 miles! European tournament, just for fun.

i tried another honda this morning....

starting budget: cr.30,000

buy a honda nsx '90 cost cr.28,010 247hp
budget left cr.1,990

make an oil change cost cr.50 up to 277hp
budget left cr.1,990

add a racing chip cost cr.1,500 up to 288hp

final budget cr.460 final power 288hp

my lap time was 8'29'211.
way better than the civic, but still needs a lot of improvement....

NSX for less than 30'000? I never seen one lower than that I think.. I will go check now.. very promising competitor being a MR and all.

i tried 3 cars this morning... i had a lot of time and money to waste....
