Heh.
Thought I'd try this for squits and giggles.
12827 RX7 RS
50 710 replacement
8400 R1 tyres (hmmm)
1200 wr1
1050 r-fly
1500 chip
1800 r-int
1600 sr-ex
1200 wing
29627 (enough for a full tank of superunleaded and a Ginsters Cornish Pasty)
7'35ish, which I was quite pleased with on R1s.
297 in the spinnygaragescreen.
I know R2s were the way to go, so I tried something else
12687 an RS-R (in yellow - although the RS probably would have done)
50 Some Italian 0170
10500 R2tyres
4800 turbo1
1200 wing
600 sr-fly
29837
This is 297 on the race screen, which the white RS wasn't *cough*301*cough*
But... I only managed a 7'28ish.
So I gave up, in the absence of an ancient musclecar to try it with.
Although, I did spec up a Cougar. (Of course.) But without the FC gearbox, it, uh, ran out of axle.

And I had to nbot bother with an oil change, which was against the rules. Pfft. You guys are no fun. I wanted to hustle up these liddle rice cakes.
EDIT: Couldn't resist.
16457 Mercury Cougar
xx No oil change, (puts it over the top)
1100 wr1
10250 tyres
1000 Fly
28807
Now. Because the 4-speed gearbox runs out of steam too quickly, I did an experiment to figure out what ratios the PD team had fitted the car with.
Well, as near as I can figure, it's the close-spaced Toploader, with rations thus:
1st: 2.32
2nd: 1.69
3rd: 1.29
4th: 1
The car has been fitted with a 3.89 back axle (or, a Mercury Code 7.)
So, what could you get from the factory? Well, go
here.
Yep. You could get a factory LSD with a 2.75 rear - code H.
So, I decided to buy a FC and a 1-way limited slip diff, put in those ratios, scrap off 5th and 6th and dial in the 2.75 back axle. If you want to try this, use auto set 15 with the default (3.89) back axle ratio, then dial everything in.
I'm assuming it's free because this is what you could buy from the factory (yes, yes, DQ me, it's against the rules, pfft.

)
And then I had fun. 7'35.700!
