When last we checked, Bugatti was putting its delayed-to-mid-’05 Veyron supercar through a series of endurance tests (AW, Oct. 18). Now comes word that as many as 11 prototypes will undergo tuning and tests as the 987-hp 16-cylinder all-wheel-drive sports car nears production. Bugatti says severe braking tests involve slowing from 155 mph to 50 mph five times in a row as it completes a test track lap, then reversing course and running the brake test in the opposite direction.

Looks like AutoWeek even agrees that it is not a production car. And that it's delayed. And that it's no longer 1001hp.

The359 is correct - all the british car mags are running articles stating that 11 Veyron test mules are being used at the moment for final testing which is due to end in Nov'05 - how long after that until production models are built and sold is anyones guess. Anyone who privately owns a Veyron now - can only have a rough, out of date test-hack at best.
