Surprised there isn't already a thread on this. Actually wanted to wait til work is over to post a picture. Been looking for these puppies for a LONG TIME! Currently in the low 2000s in Game Days. Was running the B-spec grinding widget while I slept. Got up, got ready for work, stopped the widget and decided to check the UCD. Looked on the left and saw a 1960's car and bought it. Hoping to start a 50s, 60s & 70s series. Back to the top and scroll down the left. 3rd from the bottom there it was! Couldn't believe it as I gave a fist pump that startled the Mrs. Chaparral 2D! Starred at it inspecting the specs 420 bhp, 924kg. Finally got one! Hope the 2J is soon to be found!

EDIT: Got the 2D on 8/27 and today 9/3 got the 2J (One Week!) Very nice!!!

I couldn't beat the B-spec historic race with the toyota 7 so I said "screw this, I'm just gona farm for a 2J". It took me a while to get the money but the moment I did, it was in the online dealership waiting for me :P
 
Got my 2D from a 1967 ticket and my 2J from a 1970 ticket. :lol:
 
I lent my 2J to a friend one day before the trade limit was introduced and I never got it back. :(

Got a 2D quite early in the game from Extreme Series' level 21 ticket, what a happy moment.
2J I got from a 1970 ticket (the only car I got from a b-day ticket), couldn't be bothered to sit on 15mil and wait for it to spawn.

Because of the trading limit.

I got my 2D in UCD and I won the 2J in the Historical B-spec.
 
I just borrow glitched both Chaparrals because I don't want to wait 2000 game days for them to show up in the UCD.

Err, what? I got the historical Alfa from '65 from the historic b-spec race.
 
Running the 2D on the Real Circuit Tours 'Ring race is quite the fun experience. That, and owning some hot-headed Japanese people online with the 2J.
 
I got both from the UCD.

I meant I used the 2J in that race, I dunno where I got it.
 
I have both cars and they are a lot of fun to drive. I am tempted to change from manual to auto transmission when racing them because the real cars used Chevrolet automatics.

One of the important cars missing from the game is the Chaparral 2E. This was the car emulated by modern race cars - using a wing for downforce and radiators in side pods instead of at the front of the car.

Jim Hall and the guys from Texas were great racers and incredibly innovative.
 
I have a 2D and 2J but I'm too scared to drive them and put mileage on them! Ergo, no pics.

The wing, not so much (Porsche, always intolerant of progress, threatened to ragequit the nurburgring if it wasn't banned). Incidentally, the same young (Swiss, I think) guy that tried the original winged Porsche 550 later went to Forghieri and started working on the aerodynamics for the 312 F1 car.

Side-mounted radiators surely, must have been around (I'll check that later). Probably not very successfully though, probably because they usually sucked bigtime with a 99% rearward weight bias.

Then again, the 2E wasn't that successful, winning one race is great, but he clearly went light(er) and nimble when the clever money was on the bigger, heavier engines.


That said, the Chapparals usually had all the pre-existing right ideas in the same place, and they deserve a lot of credit for that alone. And for what it's worth, a Jim Hall run FIA Formula 1 design and regulation group would be fascinating.



Oh, I'm also looking for the 2J in GT5. That'll be the last of the expensive cars I'm after, and I dare not spend too much because I know it'll only appear when I don't have the dough to buy it.
The 2D is fantastic though, had a couple of good races in that against the XJ13 around Le Mans, the long straights are almost favourable to it's 3-speed box. I've gotta be losing several hours, maybe days, per lap of la sarthe to the Jag coming out of the corners because it's geared so much better.

At least the 2J would be able to keep itself going fast enough around the corners to avoid dropping the revs too much...
 
Finally got to put the rubber to the asphalt in it. Surprised but shouldn't have been. Added extra turbos to get it up to 502BHP (that's where my other Classics are). Maxed the ballast to 971kg and stuck some racing hards on it. 1.01.xx on the High Speed Ring using a DS3. She can shave a couple more seconds off with a wheel. Downforce is maxed at 50/70; where I think it's 35/65 for the other "Classics". And that's where the difference is. Ran it against the Ferrari 330 P4 and they both crossed the line starting the first practice lap at about 170mph. Where the difference was is in the turns. 2D was made for tight cornering. Back then I believe Chaparral cornered the market on downforces. Couldn't get a "great" lap with the DS3 but the Ferrari hit 1.04.xxx and it can go faster. I think 1.01 will be best for the Ferrari with identical specs (502HP/971kg/RH). The 2D can get 58:xx. It is deceptively faster in the straights, just an illusion because of it's size and engine whine.

Got the 2J from a bday ticket and can't be bothered to dupe my '67 ticket to get the 2D. The 2J was a lot of help in the historic cup but other than that I never use it.
 
I gave in and drove mine a bit. WOW!

I have both a 2J and a 2D. Very great cars!
 
I have both from tickets. The 2d is one of my favorite cars to drive in the game. It's light and powerful, but not overpowered making it somewhat controlable. And the sound that thing makes always makes me turn up the volume!
 
Went to UCD.... bought it.
 
  • Spent ages doing the Fiat 500 expert seasonal.
  • Got Level 21 Ticket
  • Received Chaparral 2D
  • Put racing softs on
  • Owned the A spec Historic cup :cool:
 
I had 19.9 mil in the bank last night and I had been specifically holding that money for the chaparrals. The 2j showed up and I was so elated that I was in the right place at the right time...with the right amount of money! I did a few more laps around la sarthe and go back to the ucd and the 2d had shown up! Did nur 24hr a couple of times and bought that too! What a surprising finish to my day!

I'm afraid I won't be seeing 2d in a long time. I bought the 2j for about a week ago. And a couple of gamedays later I saw the 2d. There was no chance for me to get the money needed unless I was willing to sell alot of my cars, so I decided to buy it another time. A few days passed and I had just bought Peugeot 905 & some other 4-5 million car, and then the 2d showed up again! So I missed 2 chances to get it in a matter of few days.
