The clutch?

Hello:

Since many cool guys here are saying that a race wheel is way better than a controller, and after many years of using a controller in GT since it began, I'll just buy one and try it out.

My question for the wheel experienced people is:

Is the clutch really supported in GT5? I mean, does it work at least remotely close to an actual clutch? Also, is there any shifting stick that has real positions for each gear or is it just the up/down thing?

I know that many of the best cars would be sequential and most wheels have "sequential" handles on the sides of the wheel, but how about the regular gear box cars?

I am really curious about the clutch and shifting stick in those cases.

G25 and G27 have clutches and paddles (wheel handles) and H-gate shifters. The clutch works pretty well, it may not slip like it can in the real world but we aren't towing caravans in GT5 so it isn't really an issue.

Functional, yes, accurate, no. Though I didn't have a clutch before the 1.05 patch, I have heard that clutch support is a little better than it was before that patch. To me, the clutch doesn't seem "analog" but is an on/off type thing, which makes it behave quite differently than in a real car. I do like having it, though.

I think its close to what you want in a race car though.
We dont want to have to use all the clutch travel to change gear or the shifts will be too slow.

You can still slip the clutch if you want to... Ive driven off in sixth gear while just keeping the revs out of the red.

What if you release the clutch like really fast? Would you loose power as in real cars?

What if you shift without pressing the clutch? Something happens? Or does the game only deny the shift?

Not sure what you mean with the first one, if I drop the clutch in my real car I don't lose any power? Anyway, the speed you let it out in the game doesn't seem to do anything except vary your gear change times i.e slower or faster.

If you don't use the clutch and just shift from one gear to another it will just hang in neutral. Same thing happens if you try to shift without taking your foot off the accelerator (or maybe you only have to take it half off now? I forget).

Although it is not technically an on/off switch. Clutch travel distance at the "gripping" point is only about 2mm-3mm, so it's extremely short and requires a steady foot. Cool thing about it though is once the clutch catches, you can actually feel a small "bite" via the force feedback on the steering wheel (G25)

I am using the Logitech G27.

Not too sure about the real race car, but I am happy that i have it.

Worth having the G27 on your GT5.

I too have notice this grinding with my G27 at certain times with certain cars when putting it in reverse or into 1st. It's like a grinding feedback to my steering wheel. Didn't know it was because of the clutch, thats awesome if its true. All this time I thought my wheel was getting to the point where the motor is starting to break or act weird.
