Got picked up from uni by my mum and sister at 8:30 last night. The back seats of the car were down so I went to put them up and got in to go home. Got home, made toast, sat down to watch Frozen Planet, went to get laptop........****!!! Where's my bag? My bag containing laptop, un-backed up essay to be handed in tomorrow, all uni notes from the year so far and several library books? Check car and house, not there! Oh ****, must've set it down on the road fixing the car seats. Went back to uni, asked at library to see if it had been handed in, lost property was closed for the night but the guy at the service desk said nothing had been handed in recently. Went to look on street where I got into the car, not there. Had a look round the car park, no. Almost gave up hope and was about to go home to cry, but in despiration went to the library again. The guy at the service desk called me over and asked what was in the bag, I listed the items and he said it sounds like the one that had just been handed in. Apparently some older guy found it on the street, saw the library books and wondered it they could check who it belonged to, since I asked the first time.

Just relieved I don't have to try in vain to redo the essay, trying to remember all my quotes and references. And I'll remember to back up my work and not set my bag down even for a second again! I tend to have a pretty negative view of people in general, but things like this really show that there's some good people left in the world. The bag was probably sitting on he street for an hour or more in quite a busy area, thank goodness it was found by the guy who it was found by.

Thankfully there are still some good samaritans around :D

Reminds of the time when I left a case of beer on the ground loading groceries in my truck. I got home, loading everything where it needed to go and asked, "Where's my beer!?" "Oh NOOOOoooooooooo!"

I got back in my truck, raced back to the parking lot and found it gone. Went to the store, it was closed for the day, and asked the guy through the window if anybody found a case of beer. Yep, somebody just turned it in. I couldn't believe it.

That story is so "manly" .

Not too long ago, I had accidentally left a textbook of mine on the bus. After walking for a minute, I realized something was missing from my hand (Yes, I carry my textbooks, and I know what a backpack is for). So, out of desperation and not wanting to pay the ginormous fee of losing the book, I waited for the bus to circle back to where I was dropped off. 2 hours later, I had found the bus in front of the one I was one, had broken down, so it had delayed EVERYTHING... Finally got on the bus, no where to be found. I sadly went home, called the office of the bus company, said there were no reports of a textbook turned in. Next day I was at school, a random guy, barely knew English at all, went up to me and asked me if my name was Brendon. I said yes, and out of no where he pulled out my textbook. He remembered me by the felt patch I had on my backpack, but I literally had no idea who he was. I then proceeded to give him a giant hug. He is awesome, and forever my hero... Until somebody else rescues one of my more valuable items. :D

Why didn't you just name this thread "The Indecency of Inanimate Objects to disappear from your possession"? ;)

It's good to hear stories like those here, proves there are some genuine people in the world not always on the look out for themselves. Unfortunately the law of Ying and Yang applies, and there are just as many 🤬 out there as well.

I found a set of keys in the side of a scooter when I was at college and against my instincts turned them over to reception.

Upon arrival in the lecture they guy on my pew was searching like a maniac for something. I smiled and said "Lost your keys, haven't you?" He said "Yeah!" I told him "I found them in you lock box and gave them to the front desk."

Without so much of a thank you the 🤬 ran out to the front desk. Not one time after that, upon seeing me, did he even give a word of gratitude.

I should have stolen the piece of junk. He's luck thieving isn't in my nature. :grumpy:

On the flip side I've been so drunk I've left laptops in bars and came back the next day to find it still in the care of the owner and been given it back. 3 times that's happened, and in China of all places

It's nice that there are still a few honest people in the world. Shame they seem to be dwindling in numbers.

+1
Life isn't fair, it's just our job to make it as fair as we can.

what does it mean when someone puts +1? Is it just a way of saying they like it?
Sorry, I'm kind of new to this.

I believe it's them agreeing with something, do I guess you could say it's a bit like 'liking' something.

It's basically showing that you agree or like something which someone has posted. (+1 person(s) agree)

I remember I lost my phone in a busy bar once. I only noticed after I had got half way home but I went back on the off chance that somebody hadn't decided to keep it. The DJ asked if anyone had rang it and I said "My friend Tikara". He handed it straight over, someone had found it and handed it in. Unbelievable given how much of a dive the place was.

Then you go to the supermarket in a wind storm and watch someone leave a cart to blow around and run into things. All that hope disappears again.

Found a wallet at a train station once.
On the ride home and looking through the wallet to find out who the owner was (it was plain as day) it was a young student about 15.
The wallet contained $20 a few cards and a condom that was near it's use by date . Once home and a little bit of detective work on my behalf I found a phone number of someone who I thought may be related. Called the number and an old lady answered the phone.
Conversation went like this.

Me "Hi I'm wondering if you would know (insert students name here)?
Old lady "Sorry I don't know him, why?"
Me "Oh that's ok sorry to bother you but I've found his wallet and am trying to return it to him.
Old lady, instant change of tone in her voice. "Oh sorry but that's my grandson" gives me a phone number.

I ring the number and the kids father answers the phone. After a few questions from myself and the father we confirm that the story is correct and I give him my address so they can pick up the wallet.
Next day the kid and his father turn up with a box of chocolates and thank me immensely, I told him to take the chocolates home and give them to his mum be he insisted that I take them. I was just happy the kid got his wallet back, that's how I was brought up, you work for your possessions and don't keep nor take anything that isn't yours.
With a bit of luck the kid learnt a bit from it too.

Cheers Shaun.

I would never pick something up and claim it as my own. Not even money lying on the ground (even 50c or less). Just doesn't seem right. If i see money on the ground (small amounts i mean) i just leave it there and keep walking.

Usually on Friday, I found notes from MYR1 to MYR10 lying on the ground. I take it and give it to the mosque (I'm Muslim)... If you left or lost something in Malaysia, the chances that you'll have it back is 5%.
