But it won't invlove F1 cars as CODEMASTERS own that licence!

Yes.

I don't see why some people think that because EA have bought the Lewis Hamilton license, Codemasters can't put Lewis in their game. Well, they can, they've bought the whole F1 license, which includes all the drivers and cas.

Codemasters own the official license for F1. No reason why they couldn't use F1 cars and call it something else.

Am I right in thinking that the Lewis Hamilton licence includes his F1 car? Like Colin Mcrae rally which had his licenced Focus from the WRC but no other licenced world rally cars.

So it looks like its going to be an all Mclaren grid then!.. with no mention of the words F1 anywhere!

Robin.

Michael Schumacher had a Karting game. I'd imagine that Lewis would be the same as well, because Codemasters own the naming rights 'etc' to f1.

Indeed, the cars can "look" like F1 cars, they just can't be called "F1 cars".

Indeed, his McLaren will probably be licensed as well, because they can get permission off McLaren (much like Polyphony getting permission for the F2007 - it doesn't require the F1 license because its the property of the manufacturer).
It won't be a McLaren grid, it will be a grid full of either fake names or fake names that sound rather similar to the real-life teams.
Like:
Koyota, Terrari Posso, WMB, etc.

Lewis Hamilton - The Game.

lvl 1 - Help Lewis' dad put up "For Sale" signs to raise funds for go-karting.
2 - Win Go Karting race.
3 - Rule the world Win Go karting Championship.
4 - Meet Ron Dennis.
5 - Win more races in more cars.
6 - Rule the world Read "How to seem like a real honest guy".
7 - Get into Formula 1.
8 - Win Formula 1 world championship.
9 - Rule The World Bed a PussyCat Doll.
10 - Rule The World

I don't know. #9 doesn't seem so bad. :D

So the commentry would go along the lines of:
"Heres Hamilton on the front row in a pointy car"

No, no, no. It would start with commentary like, "Welcome to the first round of the pointy-car season, here we have Hamilton on pole with his McLaren. Second, is Gassa just ahead of his Atarri teammate, Maicannon".

Fixxed.

Maybe finally Codies can adopt my nickname for Lewis if they can't use his name. Lewis Cameltoe ftw!

Why wouldn't EA be able to license McLaren's name? I'm pretty sure they would try, its bad enough they can't call anything "F1" but not having his car would complete the pointless-ness of this game.

I know, but technically all the info we has says they have the Lewis Hamilton License, not a McLaren license. So Mike Laren stands for now :)

Hahaha this is turning into 'the alternative name to substitue the lack of a licence' thread!

They should do a GTA style game (without the shooting mind)... like Lewis wandering round Stevenage 'City' (will need a cleverly disgused name :sly:) and then by doing various missions and meeting people he works his way into karting and beyond whilst he fights he deep dark secret... a secret which could TEAR EVERYTHING HE KNOWS APART (*movie voice).

Come on guys.... it got drama! what more could you want! Could be EA's GTA beater!

They could give Jonathan Ross the commentary position.

"Here's comes Kimi Waikonnen in his Fewwawi, followed by the two Wed Bull's".

That would solve using licensed names...

Don't give EA ideas! Actually, please do, they don't seem to have many

HAHA so twue

Oh I so hope someone from EA reads this thread!

Yeah I have a great one.

Lewis Hamilton wakes up one day and he decides to go on his pedal kart. The next day he is suddenly 23 and wins the Formula One World Championship.

Congratulations, you have completed the game!

I reckon this game will feature a rediculous amount of wet races and one James Allen will be commentator of course, with a reference to the "Senna of our time" every 10 seconds. Also it will have side missions, where you have to act in plays for your corporate sponsors and attend awards ceremonies in suspended versions of your race car.
It will be interesting to see what the training mode will be like, "learn to race like Hamilton!" "remember to drive wide after overtaking competition", "always forget how to brake when you see your rivals",

EA do make a good game.... Fifa

They can call the cars F1 cars like football game can call football football. Also Fifa has the official champions league and so does Pre Evo and the official champions league games has it aswell. Pro Evo also has some of the official team names and kits just not all of them.

Make one wrong move in the whole game and you get a message. "FIA have fined you and your team a ridiculous ammount of money. START OVER."

Debatable whether FIFA is really a good game, though I'm no expert on sports games and I haven't played a FIFA since FIFA '97, though they seem to be awfully similar each year.
I will admit EA have published and created a few choice good games, but overall they have a reputation as one of the worst games publishers in the business. (though they may soon be overtaken by Acti-Blizzard, if that hasn't happened already)
And no, they cannot call them F1 cars, because the name "Formula 1" is a licensed entity from the FIA. The word "football" is not a licensed entity because it refers to an entire sport, not just one particular championship, plus not everyone is as annoying as the FIA. Also, I think its impossible for any one organisation to take legal copyright control over the word "football" unlike the word(s) "Formula 1", which were created by the FIA.
Why do you think Polyphony never made a "Formula 1" series in Gran Turismo? Why all the non-official F1 games usually just use "Grand Prix" in the title instead?

On the subject of team names, etc. Yes, they could go to all of the teams and ask for permission to use their names, cars, sponsors, etc. But would the teams really want to be represented in a game that will undoubtedly be very, very biased.
Last I knew of Pro Evo, it wasn't based on one sole person or team, it was just a general game like FIFA is.

Also, I highly doubt EA will go to such lengths, I mean really, do we honestly believe they are going to be giving this game a big budget at all? Since when would EA care about making a realistic simulation game?
