For all we know it could be an interactive porno game involving his girlfriend.

Thanks for lowering the tone 👍

They could give Jonathan Ross the commentary position.

"Here's comes Kimi Waikonnen in his Fewwawi, followed by the two Wed Bull's".

That would solve using licensed names...

:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

So do we have any actual info on this game? I'm intrigued to see how stupid (or sensible by some miracle) this is going to turn out to be.

And to lower the tone of this post to keep with the threads general direction, fluffy bunnies.

I reacon its going to sell well regardless of what its like purely because of his name!

Probably, look how NFS sells despite the terrible quality it probably still outsells Midnight Club until recently perhaps.

The only game EA has done well on recently is Skate. Everything else is useless but I'm sure because it carries the magic Lewis Hamilton name seal it's going to overtake many racing games, albeit slowly because he's only in a kart.

I'm definitely not a fan of EA in terms of it's business practice of buying exclusive licenses and producing poor games based on not having to compete directly with another company, but to be fair they have published some games that have been very well recieved by most critics and gamers, like:
  • Dead Space
  • Mirror's Edge
  • Burnout Paradise
  • Battlefield: Bad Company
  • The Orange Box

And then, even if I'm not a fan, it's hard to ignore the majority of positive reviews from critics and users of their sports franchises like:

  • Madden NFL
  • NCAA Football
  • FIFA
  • Tiger Woods PGA Tour
  • Skate

So in my opinion, not all is rotten in the land of Denmark Redwood City, CA... but there's plenty of room for improvement. :)

Yea Skate was pretty good although a tad bit monotonous (although most skateboarding games are really, it's a restraint of the genre). Other then that, recently nothing good is coming from the EA game making machine. I honestly wish more of their franchises would flop so they'd realise just how awful their reputation is getting with anyone in the know in gaming.

It may be partly because of me being Canadian, but I really like the NHL series. There were some bad games in the past few years, but NHL09 is really a very good sports game. And I have played the 2K sports versions of all the NHL games and really EA does a pretty good job with it.

Well I did say "I will admit EA have published and created a few choice good games, but overall they have a reputation as one of the worst games publishers in the business."
The bad is so bad it doesn't allow to me think EA is overall good in any way. (Really, my main reason for not liking and supporting anything EA does is because they ultimately killed off two of my favourite developers and subsequently ruined their franchises.).

Yeah, because they didn't make this or have anything to do with it unlike many of their other games. Valve originally published & released every one of the games in TOB. EA also only published the PS3 version, not the X360 which Valve handled as well.

But, regardless, the point is that EA had nothing to do with TOB. Valve is a mastermind and was selling nearly all the games included in this package long before them & EA decided to send these games to consoles.

I suspect that's how many of us feel as well. Even studios that didn't necessarily die, but the great game franchises that EA basically killed off by buying off exclusive liceneses. Prior to EA snagging the NFL license, 2K had them beat in my opinion in terms of overall gameplay.

Bullfrog and Westwood Studios.

You might as well add Monster Games as well. I've always felt their NASCAR HEAT series was so much better than EA's NASCAR Thunder series.

That said, EA has still managed to publish some very good games, so like a lot of companies, there is some good with the bad.

Oh, I was only referring to the two specific developers that I liked that they killed off, there are several more developers they screwed over.
Of course they must make some good games, but that isn't down to how good EA is, its just a fact of chance means eventually they would happen upon an idea that might be good, but even then, they usually ruin such ideas by stuff like not supporting the communities, not patching games beyond 1.2, usually ignoring modding scenes, etc

Thats just because they have to make money and using resources on patching and listening to communities does the exact opposite. But that is the problem with EA, they are a monster of a company. They weren't always what they are now remember.

However, we must acknowledge their contribution in helping the gaming market grow significantly over the last few years. many of their titles are unit/console sellers, whether they are any good or not.

Warning: just slightly off topic

Yeah like One on One: Larry Bird vs Dr. J!! A true classic and envelope pusher.... for 1983. Remember when the backboard broke how a janitor animation would appear and sweep up the glass, so awesome.

Just because they do things that are good for business doesn't mean I have to like them. Sure, they make money, but that doesn't make me think "ah well, if that hadn't destroyed my favourite game franchise, they wouldn't have made money".
Business > creativity.....why would anyone defend that? I suppose anyone that does is a true capitalist for once.

Many of the "old great games that EA published" are by the very developers I loved that they have rid the world of! Games like Theme Park, etc. Which is, obviously, my point.

Also, as for EA "helping the gaming market grow", perhaps in the US....overhere in the UK its one of the factors thats killing ours off. When they decided to close down Bullfrog it was a massive hit. And now Free Radical Design have gone too (not because of EA, but because of LucasArts, another publisher who has gone the wrong way).

Whats the point in making the market bigger if its just going to turn into the film industry? I don't see this as a necessarily good thing, I preferred it before where we had a smaller market but greater amount of quality, now its going the opposite direction thanks to Mr Hawkins. Its a big yay for me in the sense of I'm going to find it easier to get a job, etc....however, its not a big yay for me as a player of games. Sure, there will still be good games released, but it will be harder and harder for new and unconventional ideas to sell if the games that do sell well are the generic crap EA outputs.

Yea i wasnt defendng them, merely trying to view from a different perspective. they also make it harder for grass roots companies to start. But what can we do other than boycott their games, which wont ever happen...

Well, it does happen already for me mostly, its quite easy, lol. But yeah, its pointless because the only people who care are the hardcore gamers, the casual don't even know more than 2 developers names and usually have no idea that different people have started making their favourite game series, I see this a lot with series like Command & Conquer and Guitar Hero.

It's sad, it was slightly inevitable and I'll have to live with it, but at least I can still go back and play those old great games, some I haven't even played yet. I find myself more and more playing older games just because they offer a far better experience, and its not even a nostalgia thing, most of these games Im picking up now are usually ones I didn't play when they originally came out, such as Westwood's Blade Runner which is awesome.

Westwood's Blade Runner, what do you do in that?
