The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion---Discussion Thread

I believe there is a huse for sale in the Imperial City. It's the cheapest (around 3000 gold I think). You have to buy the interior plans from a merchants and they're around 400 each I think. You have several things to use to save stuff there. It's a hovel but useful.
Oh, and just to add. Chests can hold loads of stuff but (on the 360 version) after a while, say 50 items in a chest, they'll sart not showing in the list. They're there but you can't see them. The Skingrad house is the biggest but is also the most expensive. Personally I would'nt put anything into a chest that wasn't mine. But try it out with some cheap stuff you're not going to miss.

i keep all my stuff(all) in two chest chests in my house in bruma(all my waepons in the chest just infront of you when you walk in, and all my clothes in the one down beside my bed).

I rented this and it looks like a definite buy, but since I'm new to this kind of game I would want a guide, can anyone recommend which guide is best for a beginner?

Well, I am pretty happy with the guide that I got, its a little vague, but you soon get used to it, and it is over 400 pages long, and includes every quest and anything else you would need to know. Once you get about 3-4 hours into it, you will get used to the way things work, and if you still dont get something, you always have us to ask! The guide that I bought was the official oblivion guide, made by prima games, it covers all platforms(i couldnt find one that just covered the ps3), but all platforms pretty much have the same gameplay, so that isnt a big deal.

Thanks Dead Poetic, I will definitely be picking this one up when I buy the game, any word on weather we will get shivering isles yet?

Thats actually something that I have been wondering about. I assume that we will get it, but the question is when.

So I'm a level 2 with barely any game time under my belt and I just entered Oblivion, since it looks like whatever I'm doing might take a while, I think I'm going to go back near the Imperial city and explore all the stuff I passed by before.

Starting about a year ago, I played Oblivion on an XBOX 360, and did as much as I could until I ran into this problem:

Slow/Frozen Doors, Fire, Spell etc. animations, Jittering Doors/Effects/Objects-pos FIX
http://www.bethsoft.com/bgsforums/index.php?s=&showtopic=561101&view=findpost&p=9271517

I sold the 360 and Oblivion last summer, but I just picked up a copy of Oblivion for the PS3 this past Saturday. So far, I have noticed that it runs a lot smoother than it did on the 360, but I have already run into an issue where the game completely freezes up, and you can't even use the PS button to turn off the system....you have to manually reset the PS3.

This happened twice while fighting the Bandit Leader and her henchman in the Crumbling Mine, just south of Chorrol. If the fight lasted too long, the music and sounds became a loud, weird screech, and the game would simply freeze. I worked around it the third time around by sneaking in and disposing of the two combatants as quickly as possible. I actually expect this to happen again.

As far as Shivering Isles goes, hopefully it will be 'fixed' when Bethesda decides to release it on the PS3.
Serious Shivering Isles Ref Bug -- April 7th, 2007

A very serious bug has been found with Shivering Isles that will render the game unplayable after about 50 to 120 hours of play

thats a lot of time sitting

oops don't worry i thought you said unplayable FOR 50 - 120 play hours, instead of after.

so when I'm killing these fish in the lake to get scales, do I have to do anything else once they are killed? just take the fish to the guy when I have enough right?

Yep thats all, and dont forget that if you set it as your main quest, it will show a red arrow to where the next fish is.

completed it easily, still getting the hang of some features but I've got most of the symbols and maps sorted, hopefully I will buy the game and the guide this weekend. What the heck does L2 do though?

sorry, ps3 version only, for ps3 block is R1, on the menu it says grab or something like that... but it doesn't do anything

I played this game a bit on the 360, and I am presently playing it on the PS3. The L1 Button on both systems is the Block Button. The L2 button, again on both systems, allows you to grab and move things around.

Simply look at an item, say a dead bandit for example, hold down the L2 button, and move the Right Joystick around. It is much easier to move smaller items, such as weapons, ink wells, etc. than a body, but you can move just about anything that is actually moveable. This helps when you are trying to decorate your house by placing certain items on bookshelves, etc.

It may take a bit of practice to move things like bodies around, but small items are really easy. One way that you can use this to your advantage is the following:
Suppose that adding that fancy two-handed sword to your inventory will encumber you to the point that you won't be able to move. Simply grab it with the L2 Button and carry it in front of you. You can also make use of this feature to place the bodies of defeated enemies, usually unclothed male and female combatants, in some compromising positions. Of course, I would never do this myself.

Whoa, I didnt know that you could move stuff around. That is really cool. Not to mention you can add just a little bit onto your inventory if you need to pick something up that is too heavy. Awesome!

Edit: I was playing today and I went in some random fort, and I found 10 of these things called Welkynd Stones. I got them all because they are worth some gold, and I need some, but can anyone tell me what they do. I had them, and I fast traveled to the Imperial City, then on my screen it said, "your magika is full, the welkynd stones stay charged" or something like that...im just curious as to what they do.

Welkynd Stones fully recharge your Magicka if you use one when your Magicka is less than 100%. Obviously only use them when your Magicka is very low.
Also keep your eyes open for Varla Stones. They're large, white stones and refill the magicka in weapons. Fairly rare and only found in Ayelid ruins.

So where the heck do I find the rest of these ninroots at? when I get to the little pond I found 3, and I found 2 originally when I was looking for fish. Are the rest in a nearby cave or what?

You can also find them in pots in peoples homes. I don't think it makes any difference if they're "stolen" or not. Sometimes you'll find them in quests as well.
There's around 100 in total, maybe more.

Possible Spoilers:
Searching for Nirnroots can be time consuming, but while doing so, you will most likely increase your skill in Athletics, which is REALLY time consuming.
http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Seeking_Your_Roots

Completing Sinderion's quest in its entirety requires that you find exactly 100 Nirnroots.
"There are a grand total of 307 Nirnroots in the game. All but 44 are found outdoors."

I started that quest thinking i justed need a few seeing i almost never saw them until i read they show up near water. Then i was finding lots of them

So after clearing out that haunted house that you buy I went back to Skingrad to get my stuff which I was storing in the house of someone I had killed (he wasn't very nice) and all of it was gone. It was in one of the cabinets so I guess that answers the question about keeping things in a place you don't own, even if no one goes there.

Only store stuff in Jauffre's Chest or a house that you buy. Things that you leave in houses will disappear in a day or three days or something.

Haha, my girlfriend got mad at me cause i wanted to go home and play oblivion. But, I just joined the Dark Brotherhood, and let me just say that it is the most fun Ive had so far in the game. Being a contract killer is just awesome. Plus the rewards are pretty good, as soon as you get accepted, you get armor, which is enchanted very well. Then soon after, you can get a new weapon and other stuff. Its just awesome!

I'll have to try that out when I get home, hopefully it won't interfere with the fighters guild since I just joined that... speaking of which, I failed the first quest with the rats but it was worth it just to see that the game has a good sense of humor.
