Haxor Translator
Trouble is the last thing that people would expect in a small Puritan community like Salem, Massachusetts. In his play, The Crucible, Arthur Miller shows how much trouble a small group of people can cause when facing adversity. The town is small enough that everyone knows each other very well. This seemingly perfect community becomes the victim of a witch hunt started by a group of girls trying to protect their names from trouble. The close relationships between people bred hatred and a need for vengeance which put characters into difficult situations with no way out. This play shows the reader how important the over reliance on reputation for personal gain can lead to greed, lies, and may change the way a person is viewed by others. The characters of Abigail, Proctor, Hathorne, and Parris try to improve or maintain their reputations as upstanding citizens for three reasons, self protection, greed, and to develop character depth.
